Nr out of loo roll. Weekly shop today. Aldi, tesco asda x2 and sainsburys had none I mean not even the cheap stuff or fancy patternwd type ones.

Luckily wilko had some.

Couldn't even get pasta, prob have to just get in costco not to bulk panic buy but in hope they have some. I just don't get it there as storage here is crap.

Infant formula, ds can only tolerate one. I norm buy 4 at a time. Struggled to get that even

Now I knew about the handwash etc and always have that anyway.
Tesco cleaning aisle was also bare except the likes of oven cleaner, polish.. Everything antibac or likewise was gone!

I just want to shop normally.

Okay - are the hand sanitisers in supermarkets and big chain stores. They are completely sold out everywhere here and I have had no luck on line.

It’s great they are available - where?😊

Milo2 · 09/03/2020 22:23

We went shopping on Sat. There was no pasta, flour, tinned tomatoes or toilet roll! The toilet roll was re-stocked whilst we were there. Then everyone bought it again!

MemorialBeach · 09/03/2020 22:37

My local Sainsbury's earlier had no loo roll, only two bottles of handwash (Bayliss and Harding - the was a sign up saying the anti bac stuff was out of stock) and no hand sanitiser.

There were also no eggs, which utterly baffled me, Why the hell are people panic buying/stockpiling eggs??? They aren't like tins and pasta which have a best before date quite a way in the future and can be kept for months and months until needed during self isolation. They will go off and will need to be used and/or replaced, requiring a trip to the shops. I am vegetarian and eat eggs regularly for the protein and other nutrients - it was pretty annoying not to be able to get any.

Emmelina · 09/03/2020 22:56

@memorialbeach I couldn’t get eggs either! Why?!

ivykaty44 · 10/03/2020 03:38

People are stocking up on pasta in case they stop is coming out of Italy, like loo roll from China

People are purchasing things they think they’ll be a shortage of

So they must think they’ll be a shortage of eggs next...?

FazakAli · 10/03/2020 04:26

Keep a plastic jug in the bathroom for toilet washing use only. After you've used the loo and dry wiped as usual, wash your bottom with warm water. Then wipe dry, this is much more hygienic than just dry wiping. It's an eco friendly version of moist loo wipes & makes your standard loo roll last longer.

Itwasntme1 · 10/03/2020 04:31

I was finally able to get paracetamol - boots😊

Still no hand sanitiser so waiting for @Fairenuff to tell me where she has seen it😊

frillyfarmer · 10/03/2020 04:50

Nation of arseholes. I've just had a baby and went to stock up on paracetamol and ibuprofen, absolutely nothing in the five stores I went to. I'll have to get it on prescription which will cost an overburdened NHS and I shouldn't have to use that as I can happily afford to buy my own.

What the hell do people need to stockpile loo roll for anyway?!

bellinisurge · 10/03/2020 05:43

@frillyfarmer , I'm sorry you are having difficulty accessing this medicine.
People are stockpiling loo roll out n case they are required to self isolate which can be no fun without toilet paper.
You may recall a news story from Hong Kong where a "heist" of loo roll was caught. Hong Kong is further along than us in this. Whoever tried to nick that loo roll obviously thought it was a tradable commodity for profit. Which indicates it was. Which suggests it becomes in demand. Which may be wrong for all sorts of reasons. For a start, despite some hiccups, when there is a surge in demand, our supermarkets can still restock.
I'm a general prepper, I bought all my supplies yonks ago. Slowly and within my budget. Prepping and panic buying are not the same thing.

josbd · 10/03/2020 06:18

Apparently we are running low on toilet roll because one person sneezes, and 100 others crap themselves.

Thinkingaboutsummer2020 · 10/03/2020 06:31

I’m going to start prepping when things go back to normal.

Stolengoat · 10/03/2020 07:14

It's almost as bad as the idiots panic buying for Brexit.

HeronLanyon · 10/03/2020 07:20

I’m one of the ‘idiots’ who bought a stock of a few weeks coffee/loo roll/tins/imported stuff back in March last year. Not in panic just in case of supply chain probs (this December/jan may be interesting. looking through it a few days ago I’m pretty much sorted for this advised ‘few weeks supplies’. Wish we had thought we might need hand sanitizer for brexit as that was not on my radar !

DippyAvocado · 10/03/2020 07:36

Stockpiling for Brexit wasn't panic buying though. It was buying extra bit slowly over a period of time to avoid panic buying if supply chains were interrupted. There were no shortages in shops because of people stocking up before Brexit. It's the people who don't already have things in stock who panic buy, hence the empty shelves at the supermarket.

ClientQueen · 10/03/2020 07:40

@Itwasntme1 this is 62% alcohol

SistemaAddict · 10/03/2020 07:48

There were no empty shelves due to brexit panic buying. Those who were prepping did so over many months to avoid panic buying. My stash was obtained over the past 13/14 months. Hardly panic buying.

HeronLanyon · 10/03/2020 07:56

I’m afraid my purchase of olives and capers this time last year may have created a mini, very localised, supply chain blip but I didn’t see headlines or twitter storms so I think I got away with it without being antisocial. Grin

frillyfarmer · 10/03/2020 07:59

@bellinisurge I understand the concept, but I think in the grand scheme of things for the average healthy family, running out of loo roll is a minor inconvenience- especially in the reusable world we are moving towards.
I accept that people will panic buy dried and tinned food commodities but loo roll just seems a bit daft in comparison.

ShatnersWig · 10/03/2020 08:16

I now understand the loo roll shortage having been on the thread where people say how many loo rolls they get through in a week. I was gobsmacked. I can understand people with bowel issues getting through a lot but the amount most people use genuinely astonished me. I get through a loo roll in around 10 days, sometimes maybe 14 and assumed that was probably par for the course.

BearimyJeremy · 10/03/2020 08:20

Loads of loo roll here in the midlands where I am, plenty of cleaning products, painkillers, pasta and I even got antibac hand sanitizer at the chemist yesterday... The daily mail isn't interested in taking pictures of our local shops obviously!

HeronLanyon · 10/03/2020 08:26

This thread is bringing back a whole childhood of my lovely old late departed ma teaching us kids how much loo roll to use (not very much!). She’d be fuming right now at all of this ‘profligate wasteful use of loo roll’ as she would see it. I’d no doubt have taken her down a couple of 4 packs and she would have frowned ! Who’s have thought those memories would be dredged up !!!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 10/03/2020 08:30

Apparently we are running low on toilet roll because one person sneezes, and 100 others crap themselves

Oh thats funny

I’m gonna use that Grin

And i have a very healthy supply of bog roll, partly usual stock except for the pack i bought by accident and the one dh bought at the wholesalers

Ghoulestofmums · 10/03/2020 08:41

I wanted just one can of beans at the weekend but supermarket only had the packs of 4. Bought it but felt a bit bad as I only wanted one.

Checkout person did accuse me (as a joke) of stockpiling because I bought 9 of one item - bunches of daffodils!

sleepingpup · 10/03/2020 08:52

@ShatnersWig
@frillyfarmer

omg I have 4 large sons I just don't want to run out of loo roll! Coronavirus or no. It wouldn't be pretty.

I put an extra pack into my online this week.

Feeding them is a big enough job.

We have full shelves here. I haven't had to have fisticuffs with anyone in the pasta isle yet.

Sh05 · 10/03/2020 09:19

The only thing I haven't been able to find is hand sanitizer. The older 3 have been mithering me for 2 weeks now that they want gel to use at school, but no luck. Lidl, Aldi, Wilko's, asda, pound stretchers, home bargains, b& m no hand gel.
There's plenty of loo roll and medicines.
