Italy reports 1,247 new cases of coronavirus and 36 new deaths, raising total to 5,883 cases and 233 dead t.co/eUoE2b20hL

LarkDescending · 07/03/2020 17:09

Also, did Singapore ever have a significant community outbreak other than in that church group? They knew the source of that cluster and contact-traced assiduously.

HasaDigaEebowai · 07/03/2020 17:10

Are people stopping going out?

We are still going to a couple of long standing things over the next week but nothing that we don't have to go to. We wouldn't be choosing to go down the pub or go out for sunday lunch. I am not making social commitments beyond next week.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 07/03/2020 17:11

I'm not stopping going out yet but I imagine this will change within a couple of weeks.

Pppppickupapenguin · 07/03/2020 17:11

Our neighbour is in his 70's, single, no nearby family and not in the best of health (COPD), we told him to knock on if he needs anything and gave him our phone numbers.

My PILS are similar age but far better health. They live 2 hours away but my SIL lives 10 minutes from them, so we know they'll be looked after.

Check your neighbours please. Same as you would in bad weather.

usernameishistory · 07/03/2020 17:11

Its clear.from that graph that trajectories are not actually the same, but that is for soo many reasons.

All I can see from watching the stats is that hubs of intense movements bring greater cases (like london and southeast, whereas movement significantly restricted in Japan for instance, who shut their borders very early on)

We haven’t stopped yet

MarshaBradyo · 07/03/2020 17:12

Going out that is

ofwarren · 07/03/2020 17:12

are people stopping going out
I haven't been out for 10 days
My son has a severe immune deficiency issue

VivaLeBeaver · 07/03/2020 17:13

What are Japan and Singapore doing differently then? Or is it climate related

No idea about Singapore though previous posters suggestion of very good initial contact tracing is plausible. Rumour has it japan just aren’t testing very well.....that they need to keep numbers down because of the olympics. I hope that’s just a rumour and they wouldn’t put a sporting event above the lives of people.

LarkDescending · 07/03/2020 17:14

I have only just finished watching the Contagion programme on iPlayer (thanks to whoever recommended that) and it was clear, if unsurprising, from their final maps that large cities and travel routes radiating from them bear the brunt of pandemic infection.

seasmize · 07/03/2020 17:15

The U.K. numbers don’t make sense. Germany is up to almost 1000 cases now in a week, same for France.

ShanghaiDiva · 07/03/2020 17:16

Singapore also has an excellent healthcare system.

MarshaBradyo · 07/03/2020 17:16

Contagion is good I watched it again when this all started. The end of one of the Planet of the Apes movies shows the spread via a plane map, effective thinking of that now.

usernameishistory · 07/03/2020 17:16

I've only been to GP and essential as I've been so ill for so long.

When I say essential, that does include getting out for exercise or other activities that are away from others as Im still short of breath.

usernotfound0000 · 07/03/2020 17:17

We haven't stopped going out, still done regular activities with the kids that we do every week (ballet, gymnastics etc) but we haven't made an effort to go anywhere. DD1 has her birthday next week and we were planning to go to a smaller theme park. It seems an overreaction to say we won't go at the moment, but we have 2 weeks before we need to decide and the situation may make the decision easier by then.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 17:17

Can someone put Italy new fig into context?

1247 new cases? Shock

MarshaBradyo · 07/03/2020 17:19

Dc have parties coming up and they’ll still go.

usernameishistory · 07/03/2020 17:19

Singapore also has to be one of the cleanest bug free spaces on the planet (people bugged spaces that is).

Countries that have armies of cheap slave labour can utilise at far lower cost if they choose.

What do you think about my long planned and waited for trip to Norway first week of April.....cancellations likely or not? 🤞🏻

usernameishistory · 07/03/2020 17:21

@orangeicecream

See OP for risks/travel considerations (gathered wisdom across the threads)

FourTeaFallOut · 07/03/2020 17:21

I think by the first week of April everywhere will be peak fucked.

WorkWalk · 07/03/2020 17:22

Those Italy figures are terrifying.

QueenofmyPrinces · 07/03/2020 17:22

It’s just been on the news that there is a Corona patient being treated at the hospital I work in.

It’s getting too close for comfort now.

BunsyGirl · 07/03/2020 17:23

Singapore only has a population of 5 million. It’s a small, super clean, wealthy nation.

I am surprised by the figures in Japan though. They have a massive population - 126 million.
