It is not healthy to be so obsessed with the figures that you're getting upset that they haven't been released at 2pm.

What will you do once you know them?

IrmaFayLear · 07/03/2020 14:14

I suppose knowingly going out and about when you are infected or are likely to have been (eg living in the same house as an infected person) should attract penalties.

Like Typhoid Mary in New York who worked as a cook at various households, infecting people along the way and causing their deaths, yet continuing to work because she had to earn money . I'm sure this situation will arise here and hopefully the powers that be have considered this problem.

Alone07 · 07/03/2020 14:15

They have been late for the past couple of days.

I like to know them.

confusedandtired99 · 07/03/2020 14:18

When I’ve seen the figures I’ll just get on with my day. It isn’t professional to set a time that you will release something and consistently fail to meet that target for whatever reason. If it isn’t doable then perhaps they should change the time?

ShanghaiDiva · 07/03/2020 14:18

@littledrummergirl
Waving back to you!
Hope you enjoy your time with your dd.

ShanghaiDiva · 07/03/2020 14:19

Sorry, that should be ds!

It's perfectly evident that someone at the Department of Health and Social Care has the figures reading to publish in one browser tab, and this thread open in another, and they're just toying with you all

Newjez · 07/03/2020 14:20

@IrmaFayLear

I do wonder how many zero contract hours people have direct or indirect contact with people vulnerable to cv19. I would imagine it is quite high. So we have people who can't afford to be sick working with people who will die if they are sick. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. I think the government may need to do more to compensate sick zero hours staff.

ofwarren · 07/03/2020 14:20

Why do you say this every day at 2pm @unluckyagain?
If people want to know the figures, how does that affect you?
People are dealing with this unprecedented situation in their own ways and don't need your scorn. It doesn't make you a better person because you don't care what the numbers are.

LambriniSocialist · 07/03/2020 14:20

It is not healthy to be so obsessed with the figures that you're getting upset that they haven't been released at 2pm.

This.

tangledyarn · 07/03/2020 14:20

I'm sure the 'numbers' havent just been sitting ready to release since 7am. They are trying to collate complex information from multiple health authorities, sift through it all, double check it report elsewhere first before adding it to the website so they are obviously aiming for 2pm but its clearly not always possible.

unluckyagain · 07/03/2020 14:21

I'm not scornful at all. I'm just concerned that it's absolutely terrible for mental health for people to be so obsessed.

confusedandtired99 · 07/03/2020 14:22

Grin I don’t think that @jimmyhill I just think it looks incompetent.

JayDot500 · 07/03/2020 14:22

@ofwarren 👏👏👏👏👏

CallmeAngelina · 07/03/2020 14:22

My two-penn'orth: I have been very twitchy about this virus right from the off, and I've been ridiculed and sneered at by various people in RL and on-line for it. It gives me no pleasure at all to see that most of what I was worried about seems to be transpiring.
I've been getting really frustrated (internally - I don't say anything anymore) with all those people who are STILL saying it's an over-reaction and "just like flu for most people unless you're elderly with underlying health issues," and "we don't make this fuss about flu, so what's the big deal?"
THAT'S THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT!!!!! Why is every government on the planet taking extreme steps to try to contain this one? Because they know MUCH more about what we're up against than they're letting on.
That said, there's pretty much nothing we can do about it except keep calm, wash our hands thoroughly, cough into our elbows and try to carry on and ride it out. I will carry on normal life, taking all advised precautions for as long as I can, until I inevitably go down with it too.
And pray they can get a vaccine soon.

unluckyagain · 07/03/2020 14:23

And I absolutely do care about the numbers. I can't imagine there are many people who are not concerned how many people have the virus.

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 14:23

Newjez

There is simply noway of knowing anything really I do feel many people feel too much pressure to carry on and feel OK.
Nothing will happen to them if they don't.

confusedandtired99 · 07/03/2020 14:23

Then the time should be changed so that they aren’t under pressure and repeatedly failing to meet the target shouldn’t it?

ofwarren · 07/03/2020 14:24

Well said @CallmeAngelina
I think some people are going to be in for a shock

Nicepud · 07/03/2020 14:24

This.

I know things got a bit heated a few threads back over pp discussing this (me included). Some people wonder/want to know, some don't, but we shouldn't keep having to argue about it at 2pm every day Grin

WaterSheep · 07/03/2020 14:24

I'm just concerned that it's absolutely terrible for mental health for people to be so obsessed.

I suppose it depends on your definition of obsessed. For me it would be constantly asking for updates and numbers throughout the day. I don't think people questioning where the update is at the time it was supposed to be released is obsessed.

ofwarren · 07/03/2020 14:25

Agree confused
They should maybe change the time to 5pm if they can't do it for 2.

Cherrypi · 07/03/2020 14:25

Scotland manage to keep to the deadline.
