*fracking = talking!!

Alsohuman · 06/03/2020 20:22

I’m more worried about the lack of resilience in the population this has revealed.

SaltLampBae · 06/03/2020 20:22

I really can't stand people who say 'oh it's fine! It's only old or ill people who get seriously ill - why is everyone worrying about it'?

Well, maybe because we're not actually in the hunger games, and not caring about a potential mass cull of the sick and vulnerable isn't actually something to be proud of!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 06/03/2020 20:23

I think this is going to be moved any way thefaceofboe

Anything with corona in the title seems to be moved

Which reminds me that a friend said the local co op had an offer on corona beer cos no one is buying it ...need to pop to local co op

CountFosco · 06/03/2020 20:23

The overall deathrate for covid19 is 1%. That is 10x the deathrate of flu. No-one has any immunity yet. At the height of the infection in the UK the hospitals will be struggling to cope. The government are talking about closing schools and cancelling major events to slow spread so the NHS can cope. It is not an over reaction to be worried about this.

I do wonder how much of an overlap there is between brexit voters and those that think there is nothing to worry about covid19. We know who to blame for the spread of the virus now don't we? The stupid people who think it's all nothing to worry about.

Littlebluetruck · 06/03/2020 20:23

The vast majority of people are not scared shitless, I don’t know anyone who is scared shitless

Yep.

And the bulk buying is absolute madness!

Thefaceofboe · 06/03/2020 20:25

need to pop to local co op

Don’t forget your mask!

OP posts:
RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 06/03/2020 20:26

Shit...I don’t have a mask!!!

I’ll walk round with a plastic bag on my head...can’t think of a downside to that

Fieldsofsausages · 06/03/2020 20:31

There's a difference between spending all your time worrying about what might happen, and being concerned for what might happen.

I am concerned, but what's the point of me sitting at home and getting into a state about it? But that doesn't mean I don't give a shit about those who have been affected or might be affected in the future. It seems that you can't say you're not worried without being accused of being selfish and heartless.

My family and I are being sensible, taking the recommended precautions, reading up on the facts and not listening to the scaremongering.

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/03/2020 20:31

How disrespectful people have died, shame on you.

LilyMumsnet · 06/03/2020 20:31

We're just moving this over to the right topic. Flowers

Mayhapitis · 06/03/2020 20:31

What?! 🤦

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 06/03/2020 20:32

Told ya

CuriousCapricorn · 06/03/2020 20:33

I would say the one thing that is good is that people are actually washing their hands. It’s taken a serious virus for many people to be conscious of having to wash their hands. I wonder how many people didn’t bother before the Coronavirus. Thankfully we do wash our hands in my house and assumed that everyone else did. I’m still worried though. Hand washing isn’t going to stop the spread and I feel sad for those who have lost their lives.

theThreeofWeevils · 06/03/2020 20:33

If you insist on posting about this outside the dedicated forum, at least get your thread title right. It would appear that you meant "AIBU not to be worried shitless UNLIKE the vast majority?'

Well, whoopdedoo for you, you special little soldier, you; but the suggestion that 'the vast majority' are 'worried shitless' is a bit of an exaggeration, I reckon.

Thefaceofboe · 06/03/2020 20:34

@theThereofWeevils I think the vast majority replying to my post understand it perfectly fine so no harm done Flowers

I'm not worried..

I'm a junior sister in a busy A&E, today was spent fit testing staff for masks and reviewing our major flu incident policy. Not the first time we've done this and not the last!

I have an Msc in infection prevention and control Grin

The most alarmed I've been is reading some of the shit on mumsnet and witnessing the ridiculous behaviour of the general public, I try to remind myself that people are just frightened!

crustycrab · 06/03/2020 20:36

Whoooosh. That went straight over your head didn't it 🙈😂

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 06/03/2020 20:38

I'm not so worried about catching it, as I have an immune system of steel. I haven't had so much as a cold in years, haven't had flu since I was 8. Probably because I am very lax on cleaning/handwashing and spend all day biting my cuticles and touching my face. I'm probably resistant to absolutely everything by this point!

I am worried for the elderly people I know, and also for my job - I'm in the industry that's going to get floored by this.

TroysMammy · 06/03/2020 20:39

I'm not and I work in a GP surgery. One of my colleagues appears to be a germ phobic anyway which is not a good place to work if you are. She washes her hands then uses 70% anti bac gel! I'd hate to be an asthmatic considering the amount of anti bac spray she uses.

On the plus side the waiting area has been cleared of leaflets and magazines dated 2017 and it looks so tidy. A colleague wanted to keep the children's picture books by wiping the covers until I pointed out it was the pages inside which were probably covered in yuck.

Confusedasusual78 · 06/03/2020 20:40

It’s on here and the media/news, no one I know in real life has actually said that much about it 🤷‍♀️
I can barely remember much about Sars and all the others, they couldn’t have been covered like this? Or was I younger and not a parent and less neurotic as a person, I really don’t know 🤔

RedskyAtnight · 06/03/2020 20:44

I don't think the vast majority are worried shitless, are they? They are just quietly going about their day as normal, while the worried shitless post heavily on social media and panic buy toilet roll, so you tend to notice them more.

I don't know a single person whose response has been to do any more than wash their hands a bit more frequently than usual.

Thefaceofboe · 06/03/2020 20:46

@RedskyAtnight Ha yes only joking, just based on the amount of hysteria I’ve seen on here. Not spoke to anyone in RL who’s particularly worried

OP posts:
AgentCooper · 06/03/2020 20:47

The behaviour of some people has been utterly selfish and ridiculous. Somebody posted a pic on Facebook of the shelves of my local Morrison’s emptied of loo roll. For fuck’s sake. Perfectly healthy folk filling SUVs with bread, toilet roll and handwash, meaning there’s nothing there for very elderly folk who are less likely to drive, less likely to use online delivery and actually in a very risky position if they contract the virus. People love drama.

Parkermumma07 · 06/03/2020 20:48

Thank god for a thread with a bit of sense I counted 10 threads earlier all panicking about Coronavirus I think I may take a break from mumsnet for a bit till it all calms down!!
