Am I....????

No. Just come back from Tenerife, it was business as usual. Going to France then Spain in the next couple months.

More likely to get stabbed in London or struck by lightning. Aside from hand washing and being careful there's not much you can do about it on a day to day basis. But then I still went into London after the various terror attacks. I'm not putting my life on hold.

Of course if it does turn into a mad huge outbreak I'll follow official guidelines. But so far 150 people diagnosed and 2 dead out of 66 million, so I can't be arsed to worry just yet.

Fieldsofsausages · 06/03/2020 20:05

I don't know anyone in real life who's worried shitless. Some concern, but not because they might contract the virus, just because schools and workplaces might shut. I'm more worried by the fact that I'm almost out of toilet paper and all my local supermarkets are out of stock....

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/03/2020 20:05

It must be nice to be one of those people who can work from home, or have savings to tide them over if the schools close. I don't, and I need to go to work to keep a roof over our heads. I don't think it's necessary at this stage.

user1497207191 · 06/03/2020 20:06

There's not a lot any of us can do about it anyway, other than take the sensible precautions of practicing good hygine. Which most people surely do anyway?

No,that's the problem. "Most" people don't seem to have good personal hygiene. They don't wash their hands after using the loo. They cough, splutter and sneeze all over other people, etc. They may not care about themselves, but they're helping to spread the virus to other people, including those at higher risk, so they don't care about others either. Next time you go in a public toilet, just look at how many dirty buggers don't even make an attempt to wash their hands.

picklebarrelfalls · 06/03/2020 20:07

Look at me being all cool an shit, claiming not to be bothered..... I'm soooo tough.

Did I tell you I don't care about cv?....

I'm going to post on the internet and tell allllll the strangers that I don't care one jot.....to solidify my claim that I don't care about cv ......

Would you say that if it were your OH and child who were the dead???

purplebob · 06/03/2020 20:08

I'm not worried re the risk of catching it, but the knock on effects of this virus are massive. That worries me a lot.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 06/03/2020 20:08

The vast majority of people are not scared shitless, I don’t know anyone who is scared shitless

1forAll74 · 06/03/2020 20:09

It IS all a bit worrying, but I am not going to get worried. Myself and my three cats, are all going into the cupboard under the stairs, the one that was used when the bombs were dropping in the last war, and not a plastic bottle of antibac to be seen. I was born in the last war,so know how to survive anything nasty !

bobstersmum · 06/03/2020 20:10

I'm not massively worried but I am being cautious and making sure we have essential supplies. Can't do much more than that, no one can really.

FuckThisWind · 06/03/2020 20:10

No. I'm not 'worried shitless' as you so eloquently put it.

But my Mums cancer consultant seemed concerned enough today not to shake our hands and to be more than aware of how it might impact on my Mums upcoming cancer surgery. And the safety of his patients. And probably for himself.

This is close to being called a worldwide Pandemic. Lovely if you don't give two hoots (even though some on here already have said they are compromised and at risk) but at least have some compassion. At least to the families of the two already dead in the UK from a NEW virus that we aren't completely prepared for.

And yes, some of us do have more to worry about thanks. Including climate change and many other things. But it beggars belief that anyone would take to a forum to just be dismissive for the sake of it.

A bit like not having cancer and saying 'AIBU to not give a fuck if your nearest and dearest have cancer'

Think on. And have a bloody soul.

PineappleDanish · 06/03/2020 20:10

It's all very well telling the OP to sod off to the special forum. But over there is... nuts. Apart from the posters on the "positive mental health thread", it's all doomsday scenarios, stockpiling, obsessing over death rates, keeping kids off school and wild conspiracy theories.

There is no balance. Read the Coronavirus forum on here and it will terrify you.

Not surprised OP has been reluctant to post there.

Thefaceofboe · 06/03/2020 20:11

@user1497207191 where are you quoting this from..?

Shinycat · 06/03/2020 20:13

@HaddawayAndShite

I have blocked it.

How do you block anything to do with coronavirus on here?

I am sick to death of seeing threads on it now.

Shinycat · 06/03/2020 20:14

@FuckThisWind

Blimey. Calm down. Wink

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/03/2020 20:14

There's a whole new topic for this sort of bollocks to go into.

Oh behave. Make of my post what you like but no need to be so dramatic.

LellyMcKelly · 06/03/2020 20:16

I’m more worried about this health scare, to be honest.

I'm worried, as are my family. But that's because I'm old and I have various underlying health conditions. So I think we are being proportional in our concerns.

My immediate family, who i live with are concerned that they may get it and pass it on to me.

I'm also concerned about the lack of HDU/ITC beds available in NHS and the knock on effect of delayed ambulance call outs.

But, again, I think my concern is proportionate to the risk for me personally.

There is other shit I'm worried about. Using up NHS stocks that have been compiled to deal with Brexit for example, but there is bugger all I can do about that.

So, I deal with those things that are in my sphere of influence
(Like washing hands regularly and encouraging family to do the same), and I leave these other areas of concern to fall where they may

lumpy76 · 06/03/2020 20:21

According to my consultant doctor friend - on an individual family basis fracking about my own and her family) there's not much to worry about. On a population basis it could be really bad. On an NHS level it's a disaster - they aren't at all equipped to deal with an epidemic and could NOT upscale the number of beds required.
