They are obviously waiting until after the school run and everyone is home for wine o'clock before they release the figures. So we can all sit down and have a drink 😬🍷

Apparently there are 3 in Trafford (south Manchester) as well as the one in Stockport and one in Wythenshawe.

We’re these 3 reported yesterday?

I'm south manchester/east Cheshire and a local GPs surgery has posted on a Facebook group a confirmed case who had been into the surgery earlier in the week.

Pretty sure it's not airborne but can aerosolise in certain situations like during intubation? They aren't the same thing.

You have to self quarantine at home for 14 days when you enter China, even if you have no symptoms and have not been ill. If you come from Italy, Korea. Iran or japan you cannot be quarantined at home: you go from the airport to the quarantine area.

I think those are sensible precautions, especially after what they have gone through. They don't want a resurgence of cases.

I personally think China is currently safer than anywhere else at the moment. Unfortunately we won't be doing anything like that, not least because we don't have the quarantine facilities.

From WHO Chinese study (worth a read)
Routes of transmission
COVID-19 is transmitted via droplets and fomites during close unprotected contact between an infector and infectee. Airborne spread has not been reported for COVID-19 and it is not believed to be a major driver of transmission based on available evidence; however, it can be envisaged if certain aerosol-generating procedures are conducted in health care facilities. Fecal shedding has been demonstrated from some patients, and viable virus has been identified in a limited number of case reports. However, the fecal-oral route does not appear to be a driver of COVID-19 transmission; its role and significance for COVID-19 remains to be determined. Viral shedding is discussed in the Technical Findings (Annex C).

Please stop worrying about the numbers - yes they will go up, soon to increasingly large numbers, that's the way that epidemics grow, exponentially. It's bad news at a national level and for the impact on the NHS but there are genuinely good systems in place to mitigate the impact and there are also plenty of people with health conditions overcoming this virus (see the Abels in Japan - I think David is diabetic)

It's likely to be because they need to ensure accuracy that the numbers are late, not a cover up.

Fomites are inanimate objects or surfaces where the virus stays alive. Like soft toys in Drs surgeries...

Given how inept this government is anything is possible

It’s not the government as such, though, it’s the civil service, and they’ve been pared to the bone and subject to questionable IT support like the rest of the public sector.

I suspect the reason is discussions around the revision of the text rather than obfuscation, but if the text is being revised then this is a concern too.

Have you any knowledge of how they increase availability of ICU beds? Except to stop planned ops where ICU is routinely needed for recovery. Although most of those I can think of are not really postponable in the medium term without loss of life.
