Previous thread here.

We are using Worldometer, BDO and Dr John Campbell videos as part of the discussions.

Most CC units are open bays not cubicles

Agree, hadn't thought of the patient-as-spreader angle, but blindingly obvious now you've pointed it out. So used to the finger-pointing at staff that now I'm doing it! Wine Wine

Kuponut · 05/03/2020 20:17

The electricity companies need to clarify what they are going to do for key meter customers in the event of possible self isolation.

DH is going to raise that with the senior bods at his work tomorrow now.

Told my uni about the student on our course pulling a sickie to be on holiday in northern Italy at the moment and raised the "what about placements" query... no action likely to be taken at present apparently and our placements are continuing (into care homes FFS!)

georgeggg · 05/03/2020 20:17

I would like to know why they say
"No school should close in response to a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 case, unless advised to do so by public health England"

So how come when they get a suspected or confirmed case in a go surgery, offices etc they shut immediately? Why are they prepared to put children at risk?

FaisPasCiFaisPasCa · 05/03/2020 20:18

We have dna sequences that occur in bananas, apparently.

quiteathome · 05/03/2020 20:18

Catching up.

OneTimePrepper · 05/03/2020 20:19

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Can we have a seperate Coronavirus political thread? I have zero interest in reading political point scoring when there are more important matters to discuss. I dare say others will be feeling the same.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

BigChocFrenzy · 05/03/2020 20:19

Controversial, but maybe visits from relatives need to be very limited & restricted for COVID patients in hospital

It seems a clear danger, as relatives won't have the training of the staff

BigChocFrenzy · 05/03/2020 20:21

Will pp then please stop posting goady political stuff if they don't want more political posts

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 05/03/2020 20:21

@FaisPasCiFaisPasCa the docs at my place think aerosol formation in this way is a small risk but one we will prep for.

On a different note has anyone seen the 111 CV19 checker? 111.nhs.uk/covid-19
Still using previous (unsatisfactory) travel history questions, but worth sharing for those who are concerned re: symptoms but can't get through to 111 by phone

ofwarren · 05/03/2020 20:21

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has declared a state of emergency due to coronavirus; all schools and universities will be closed - Jerusalem Post

NeckPainChairSearch · 05/03/2020 20:21

Why is this thread descending into politics

Pretty much every aspect of our lives is informed by politics. This situation - with the impact on the NHS, the economy, the vulnerable, the poor, jobs, health, welfare, benefits, etc. etc. etc. is intrinsically linked with politics.

I don't see how - or why - politics should avoid being part of the discussion.

fedup21 · 05/03/2020 20:22

I completely agree. Offices are shutting left right and centre, they’re talking about shutting parliament for months, but, God forbid, childcare is interrupted...

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2020 20:22

It's an infectious disease. It's not controversial.

What is more contentious but should be considered is who is allowed to visit care homes. If someone doesn't need to be there are they a potential risk to everyone in the care home?

cologne4711 · 05/03/2020 20:24

Not sure if this has been raised before but I swim once a week. Is it likely that the chlorine in the poll will kill the virus?

To my knowledge, I don't think I've ever caught anything horrible from a pool except verrucas. But don't want this to be an exception!

Awkward1 · 05/03/2020 20:24

FB group
Coronavirus pandemic fight uk

If anyone wants to share on fb though it feels like a war situation where we are not allowed to question the response.

Also cross because in the paper it said they out the Tenerife returnees in a flight amid the other passengers !!

I know that they tested negative but still imagine if you were older or whatever.

Haven't heard of any planes being deep cleaned

blinkboo · 05/03/2020 20:25

@Reastie I read that lots of the early Italian cases were infected in a hospital including many already in intensive care. It would explain death rates of that is true.

HeIenaDove · 05/03/2020 20:25

@Kuponut Thank You Thanks and Thank You to your DH Thanks

Half of UK coronavirus cases likely to occur over three weeks – and NHS does not have enough beds to cope

Half of coronavirus cases in the UK are likely to occur over just three weeks and the NHS does not have enough beds to cope with them, the chief medical officer has warned.

Professor Chris Whitty said there was a "slim to zero" chance of avoiding a global pandemic which could see "huge pressure" on the NHS, making it impossible for everyone who needs a bed to get one.

WouldShouldCould · 05/03/2020 20:26

Why don't they shut schools? Because it would adversely affect those that are expected to deal with the virus on the front line, the cleaners, the nurses, the shop keepers and delivery drivers who couldn't work if the kids were off school.

Gammeldragz · 05/03/2020 20:26

Yes the chlorine will kill it in the water, but the warm damp air and surfaces in the changing rooms is another matter...

EwwSprouts · 05/03/2020 20:27

George Why are they prepared to put children at risk?

If you read what WHO say children are seemingly not falling ill to the virus. The theory is that they are exposed to so many of the other coronavirus strains. Closing schools is more about reducing spread to those who are susceptible. (Not a health professional.)

cologne4711 · 05/03/2020 20:28

Hmm, not worried about surfaces as can avoid touching but the air....glad ds hasn't been lifeguarding for a few weeks!

Gammeldragz · 05/03/2020 20:28

The arguments against shutting schools make sense. But Greece, Italy and Iran have decided to do so.... So are they so different that our arguments don't apply? Are they following different guidelines? It's confusing...

BigChocFrenzy · 05/03/2020 20:28

Why is Parliament being closed ?

That is what baffles me too

Unless Parliament is thought to be a potential hotbed of superspreaders

If it's really that dangerous, then at least stop mass events like Crufts,
say ban anything over 1,000 people, like Switzerland have done

  • much less damaging than closing schools
Skyejuly · 05/03/2020 20:30

We have been swimming today x
