Someone do a petition/ tweet for us all to like etc.
I can't understand them wanting us all to get it. Wuhan had a similar population -11m? But they restricted everyone s movements for months. To achieve that and most won't have caught it yet still and still all those dead.
It would certainly be millions dying!

ofwarren · 05/03/2020 19:52

New York state coronavirus cases double to 22, governor says t.co/Pu934JjJb3 t.co/YjHkOn9QB3

AutumnRose1 · 05/03/2020 19:53

screamer there’s no basis for comparison! AIDSisnt airborne!

Reastie · 05/03/2020 19:54

ItsWhatItIs so China have, per person, nearly double the number of hospital beds we do yet they were building temporary hospitals to house people with Cv because their hospitals couldn’t cope. It doesn’t bode well.

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2020 19:54

I’ve just read that 3 of the newest cases were “intensive care patients”, so no travel or exposure to high risk persons (probably), does this mean that the nhs workforce in these hospitals have been exposed and are spreading the virus?

If that's the case then yes, there is a strong chance that the virus wasn't spotted immediately and that staff were exposed and have potentially spread it.

And unfortunately we will probably see a few deaths fairly shortly if its circulating in hospitals already.

Pebble21uk · 05/03/2020 19:54

I've just read on a local news page that the South West region now has 15 confirmed cases. They have not given exact details of locations.
I also read that a church in Churston Ferrers (same location as a confirmed school case) has been notified of a confirmed case in someone who attended Holy Communion last weekend!

HeIenaDove · 05/03/2020 19:55

Its not a roof repair Its a renewal. No one is moaning about repairs because there arent any

And making assumptions about HA tenants while expecting them to do the right thing regarding COVID19 would be likely to garner a hostile response.

IF anybody from here is told to self isolate during this it could get interesting.

Its the sort of work that should be done in the summer virus or no virus.

screamer1 · 05/03/2020 19:55

@auslass obviously they're transferred in different ways. And are completely different viruses. But hiv was also a virus that was new at time. My question relates to how it mutates or develops.

I don't think that how the virus is transferred makes a difference, your body is still having to battle I. But maybe I'm wrong?

Devlesko · 05/03/2020 19:56

Did I hear right that you will only get sick pay if you are actually sick?
Not just self isolation.
I don't think anyone only those working for large corporates that will receive any pay.
Pt workers on min wage won't be earning £180 per week, more like 160/70
Added on are the self employed and those on zero hours.
I don't believe a word he says.

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 05/03/2020 19:57

Without giving too much detail that may be outing, my role involves an element of emergency planning in the NHS. Today we are considering/planning for: how to separate flow through A&E (with great difficulty in our hospital. The neighbouring trust has two entirely separate emergency departments for adults and paeds so will be able to utilise), updating our pandemic policy with a CV19 addendum, testing in critical care already commenced in pts with respiratory symptoms regardless of travel history and known contacts, shortage of certain masks and consumables and rationing of these, generating lists of recent retirees/corporate nurses/transfers who can be approached now to guage interest for returning to work, reconfiguring ward environments e.g. To 'clean' and 'dirty' wards, with 'dirty' wards staffed by those who have had the virus and recovered or staff with mild symptoms, cancelling all elective work to free up beds and staff, creating additional hdu/ITU capacity in surgical areas of hospital.

boatyardblues · 05/03/2020 19:57

Wow, we are really low down on that list!

I watch a lot of Korean drama (#2 on the OECD list) and they don’t seem to have an established primary care system (ie GP surgeries) like here. Whenever someone gets a sniffle or a fever, they go to the local hospital to be checked over by a doctor and usually hang around for IV fluids, probably to make it worth their while. It may be that they have a lot more beds for structural reasons (also lots of competition between private hospital chains with their main & branch hospitals), but they may not be the kind of acute/more highly staffed wards that we have. Even in the rural-set dramas, home visits are undertaken by doctors and nursing staff from the local branch or community hospital.

Newleafinspring · 05/03/2020 19:58

Anyone know the list of the 100 GP practice? Just want to know if there is one in my area. Thanks.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/03/2020 19:59

@boatyardblues
It is the same in China.

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 05/03/2020 19:59

You'll also have read that 45 CV positive patients are self isolating at home. The truth is all of the High Consequence Infectious Disease beds are full.

furrytoebean · 05/03/2020 19:59

@HeIenaDove

Roofers work all year round, I'm booked to get a new roof put on next month. It was supposed to be in feb but he's had to push some back due to the weather.

I think housing association tenants get the short end of the straw about lots of things but getting a new roof put on in April is not one of them.

usernameishistory · 05/03/2020 20:00

The binding package of the virus has similar genome to HIV. So the way it attacks and holds to the body.

tobermoryisthebestwomble · 05/03/2020 20:00

Is the NHS prepared? No. We will, as always, try our best.

boatyardblues · 05/03/2020 20:00

Also, all South Korean men have to do 2 years’ military service (before 28 I think). Most medics/dentists seem to do this post-training and are mobilised to provide healthcare in outlying/rural areas after basic training (from what I’ve gleaned from TV Grin).

usernameishistory · 05/03/2020 20:01

Has some similarities wouod be a better way of phrasing it is all ive heard so far.

middleager · 05/03/2020 20:01

Can finally confirm one of the 'Midlands' cases is from Birmingham. It's a pretty big place so could be any part.

BigChocFrenzy · 05/03/2020 20:01

"Is this really going to turn into a mad socialist raving thread?"

Or a mad raving Tory thread ?
wtf has Blair and Iraq got to do with saving lives in the UK ?
I have been reacting to pp saying Corbyn would bring about a worse disaster

I'd expect he'd be just as chaotic as Boris, but would choose to damage the economy more before (british) lives

I can't stand Corbyn and have never voted Labour in my life (I'm 63),
but the fantasies & paranoia about him are ridiculous, certainly wrt Coronavirus

MurrayTheMonk · 05/03/2020 20:02

Therealhousewife-because he just doesn't take it seriously at all. He was starting to get a bit more worried this week but last week he was just laughing it off.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 05/03/2020 20:03

Our local fish and chip paper (I cant say newspaper as it is appalling!) Is saying their are no cases in Dorset so far according to PHE.

Gammeldragz · 05/03/2020 20:04

@FaisPasCiFaisPasCa that's assuming they have time for that! Moaning to the nurses in between patients is about as much communication as they have time for! Most of our GPs are too busy to spare much thought for coronavirus (this will change dramatically quite soon, I'm sure!).
I have just remembered that we did originally (in an email from over a month ago) have a PHE regional helpline for HCPs' coronavirus questions, which was taken down as the media got hold of the number and now we have an email address instead. The GPS technically have this info but I dread to imagine the state of their inboxes so it's unlikely it was read by any of them. I will email tomorrow and ask if there's any new advice for general practice and whether we can access tests/what to do about people with symptoms and no 'travel history'.
