Let's eat grandma.

Good analogy but I'd put that more for the royals, William and Kate who are joking about spreading covid and laughing about..

'' your not dying err no, it's a cough ''

Not that I've ever been a fan of William but seeing those comments have angered me a great deal.

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 05/03/2020 19:32

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_OECD_countries_by_hospital_beds

Wow, we are really low down on that list!

Springinsight · 05/03/2020 19:32

Big, the LAST person worried about electoral votes right now is Boris Hmm

Fifflefaffle · 05/03/2020 19:34

@HelenaDove it's just the weird sense isn't it that people are either in denial or thinking it'll fade a into nothing. I wouldn't want my roof removed either. Some people are a little on edge as it is, without having extra things to think about.

SisterAgatha · 05/03/2020 19:36

Yeah I got really irrationally angry at William too. It’s not like he has to worry about statutory sick pay or childcare or his grandparents carers. Easy to joke when you pretty much know you’ll get whisked to safety and receive the best level care compared to the poor public who happen to be his subjects.

Quartz2208 · 05/03/2020 19:38

Yep exactly he doesnt have to worry about a hospital bed or being able to be seen in a timely fashion and receive good care. It was a joke that showed how out of touch the royals still are

Orangeblossom78 · 05/03/2020 19:38

Just had an email from school to say they will only shut on advice of public health England who say not to even if cases at school

PotholeParadise · 05/03/2020 19:38

I don't think kids playing outside in the open air would be that big an infection risk.

cjt110 · 05/03/2020 19:39

Evening all.

Just seen my 5 year old to bed and thought I’ll teach him how to wash his hands as per current advice... he promptly said I know how to do this Mummy! Did palm to palm, palm to back of hand, in between fingers then each individual finger whilst singing happy birthday to me twice! Shock

I was so impressed. His teacher has taught him and he was so proud to show me!

BigChocFrenzy · 05/03/2020 19:39

Springinsight No, I don't think anything so paranoid as evil Tories wanting to exterminate the vulnerable

However I simply disagree that Labour or any other government would be doing any worse, or would be some terrible danger in this situation

In a public health crisis like this,
the organisation and work on the ground is done by professionals, with the top public health officials putting forward different options to the government

The government choose options, depending on how they want to balance protecting the economy vs protecting lives
They would be presented with further options as circumstances change

Another govt might choose to prioritise lives more, to be more open - or indeed to be even more secretive

HeIenaDove · 05/03/2020 19:39

Exactly Fiffle. And HA only gave the go ahead last week so already knew there could be a risk of one.

Ejmorgan · 05/03/2020 19:40

I'm struggling with the figures given the death rate was forecast as about 2% however if you look at closed cases so final outcome of all clear or dead it is currently at 6 % so much higher than suggested . I'm expecting over 100,000 cases worldwide by the morning

NeckPainChairSearch · 05/03/2020 19:40

But the way some posters seem to think their is an evil tory gathering rubbing hands with glee that the UK is about to be wiped out is utterly Vile

Well, it would be, but no one's said that.

Posters have pointed out that the Tories will conceivably prioritize the economy and self-interest over the needs of vulnerable people for as long as they can get away with it.

That's hardly news. That's just the Tory party MO.

screamer1 · 05/03/2020 19:42

Can I just ask those with a greater understanding, how is this different to something like the AIDS epidemic? As in a new virus which they don't understand, and that is progressing rapidly.

Are they incomparable? I think the thing that's worrying me atm, is the fact that they don't yet know what they're dealing with. Or do they?

usernameishistory · 05/03/2020 19:44

School bags and coats cleaning, if they are a solid surface (metal being the most suitable for virus to survive on for longer periods) easy to use soap and hot water, any fabric put in hot/airing cupboards etc. Keep outside stuff separate to indoor clothing.

Viruses dont last on tissues for long.

LambriniSocialist · 05/03/2020 19:44

Corbyn would be unlikely to prioritise the economy more over lives than Boris

The current Labour lot couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery, would be arguing amongst themselves about everything (probably about what might look 'racist' or something) and meanwhile the entire country would be crumbling! And I bloody voted for them last election in order to try and keep out Boris!

Anyway, the whole 'what would JC do' thing is moot now anyway, it's not them that's going to be sorting it so we will never know.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 05/03/2020 19:44

It seems the timing about the roof repairs is a bit unfortunate, Helena but aren't big repairs planned long in advance? No one could have foreseen coronavirus a few months ago.

It would have been just as unfortunate if the repairs hadn't been scheduled and the tenants would have been complaining about that?

BigChocFrenzy · 05/03/2020 19:44

"the LAST person worried about electoral votes right now is Boris"

Getting elected is always a very high priority with any politican, usually their #1, whatever the situation.

I certainly hope he is particularly worried about voters atm,
because that would mean he won't gamble too much and risk large numbers of deaths

NotJustACigar · 05/03/2020 19:45

I don't think it's a Tory plot just because they don't want to kill off their own voters and not because I think they have any shred of decency. After all they're going on to their bunkers and leaving us to it. I think they are just prioritising the economy over our lives.

The nasty comment from William really revealed his true nature I feel. No empathy whatsoever from that direction either.

justchecking1 · 05/03/2020 19:46

OK- - that probably means the Swansea case (results out last Thursday) didn't pass it on to his family, so probably hasn't passed it to anyone else either.

Family tested negative but are self isolating for 14 days anyway

auslass · 05/03/2020 19:47

@screamer1 is this for real? AIDS and HIV are transmitted in completely different ways.

Springinsight · 05/03/2020 19:48

Big I saw no evidence of Tony Blair choosing to put lives first especially when he sent bombers to Iraq?

If saw no evidence as the child poverty gap grew under a Labour government of a decade, to put the most vulnerable first.

Is this really going to turn into a mad socialist raving thread?

Why not post elsewhere like politics? Corybn couldn't run his own party, or control anti sematism. I don't know think for one second he could control covid.

sister

Irrational anger? Not sure, he's funded by us and does these public trips in return for our money, and there he is belittling families who as you say could never protect their dc like he can.

He wouldn't be laughing if he was facing no oxygen at NHS hospital and yet his tiny dc is gasping for breath.

: Iranian diplomat Hossein Sheikholeslam, former member of parliament and Iran's former ambassador to Syria, has died of coronavirus - Fars

Springinsight · 05/03/2020 19:50

I'd rather focus on where and who to lobby to stop this wait whilst we all plunge into the storm.

Some poll came out saying the brits are very relaxed about it.

Bumblesbumbles · 05/03/2020 19:50

I’ve read other threads which state that PHE are allowing workers to work where there have been confirmed cases and the same for schools. This worries me. I’m interested to hear what measures people think should be in place now?
