Previous thread here.

We are using Worldometer, BDO and Dr John Campbell videos as part of the discussions.

@auslass - I just heard about the Victoria office one (my friend works there).

WokClock · 05/03/2020 18:15

@SnoozyLou - you mention about hindsight, but actually, the numbers in Italy were already worrying the last weekend of half term. On this thread we were all expecting guidance to go out about the northern Italy ski trips and not coming into school straight away - to minimise further contacts. But sadly that didn’t happen.

In my view this was definitely a wrong decision by the government. They had the information, but didn’t act.

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 05/03/2020 18:15

Two confirmed cases in Liverpool now and an as yet unconfirmed report that a young child has tested positive at Alder Hey Children's hospital.

A member of staff at the hospital who wishes to remain anonymous contacted the Echo newspaper to report they had been sent home from work after the young patient had tested positive today.

Skierrdery · 05/03/2020 18:16

We're just numbers to the government. Don't fool yourself that you're anything more.

Springinsight · 05/03/2020 18:16

Boris cronies are medical professionals.
Like that chief man.

Who do you think would have been advising corybn and would corybn over ride advise of chief medial officer?

Personally, I want stricter restrictions. I want schools and colleges shut. I would have thought do it now, encompass Easter holidays.
Ban flights from hot spots. Make visitors go into quarantine.
Stop medical supplies going out. Etc etc ect
Allow people to work from home, ration hand gel.

WokClock · 05/03/2020 18:18

Interesting that the main headlines about the person who sadly died are “underlying health conditions” rather than “no trips abroad”. Definitely trying to minimise

GalOopNorth · 05/03/2020 18:18

Too late.

The time for proper testing and quarantine was three- four weeks ago.

This is deliberately being allowed to run.

By the time most of the population has really understood the implications of 1% death rate it will be far, far too late.

Skierrdery · 05/03/2020 18:19

First logical thing that should have been done a week ago was banning flights from Italy. But meh.... Almost every new case appears to have some connection to coming back from Italy.

cologne4711 · 05/03/2020 18:20

Not really. The person died WITH the virus. Not necessarily OF the virus.

Skierrdery · 05/03/2020 18:21

Boris potato head singing his Wash your hands shite again on Sky News. Does he think we're all simpletons?

idonttrustboris · 05/03/2020 18:21

Can I just ask, is anybody else coparenting through this with a child arrangement order? How do you broach it with the other parent?

LuxLFC · 05/03/2020 18:21

@GalOopNorth completely agree

HairyFloppins · 05/03/2020 18:22

Such a shame about the death. Feel so bad for his family.

They really need to stop flights from Italy now.

FurForksSake · 05/03/2020 18:22

Husband has two people off being tested and one colleague who was in despite showing worrying symptoms. Way too close to home now.

Wilko to slash sick pay for 21,000 workers amid coronavirus outbreak
EXCLUSIVE: Letters seen by Mirror Money show that from 1 April 2020, employees will no longer receive sick pay from their second absence. It comes as the number of people affected by coronavirus reaches 90 in the UK

peridito · 05/03/2020 18:23

I have zero confidence that the gov will keep us informed .I understand that they want to avoid panic but restricting info won't help ,just leads to speculation .I think they are deliberately trying to mislead .

I saw a clip of BJ on TV ,he was definitely giving the impression that "mild" = nothing to worry about ,not a problem rather than "mild" = not having to be hospitalised but pretty awful .

magicrainbowbeans · 05/03/2020 18:23

Good to know where not to shop. I'm not supporting any business that does that.

SnoozyLou · 05/03/2020 18:23

@WokClock It would be interesting to know what they class as an underlying condition too.

Imonlydoingwhatican · 05/03/2020 18:24

Lets hope their "facts" are correct about not effecting children. I feel the public wont take kindly to this news when it comes out.

OldQueen1969 · 05/03/2020 18:24

Okay - absolute cynicism alert - and I'm already slapping myself for even allowing my brain to go near this idea, but bearing in mind the austerity policy that has seen thousands die in the vulnerable categories of society due to benefit mismanagement, this situation is potentially playing into the eugenics by stealth narrative.

If those who will be worst affected are elderly, affected by underlying health conditions or vulnerable in some other way and "costly" to society, then the government could, if particularly amoral, be prepared to follow the "let nature take its course" route for long term financial reasons.

Am appalled I can even think this way and apologise because it does sound tin foil hat even to me - however, one cannot deny that protecting the vested interests of those with the most money and power seems to be a strong motivation with our current leaders. They make the right noises, have meetings, tweak the edges of systemic problems and then hold up their hands and deflect blame elsewhere..... I really dunno what to think any more.

if this explodes and NHS / medical staff have to be diverted from one field to another, how will this affect people already dealing with serious conditions? This is a selfish consideration on my part, as my Mum is just starting to get regular visits from Macmillan nurses (I know they are a kind of separate thing) but if HCPs are compelled to deal with the virus instead, what happens then? Is this scenario even likely or do I just have a sick and evil mind?

Vodka beckons.

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2020 18:25

He told ITV's This Morning programme: "One of the theories is perhaps you could take it on the chin, take it all in one go and allow the disease to move through the population without really taking as many draconian measures. I think we need to strike a balance

This is deliberately being allowed to run.

I may be somewhat unsurprised by how this has all moved on in two days...

Blueberryham · 05/03/2020 18:25

Yes someone said somewhere on these threads that of the “mild” cases, half have pneumonia but obviously not bad enough to need to go into hospital.

Blueberryham · 05/03/2020 18:25

People hear “mild” and seem to think they will just have a cold

Skierrdery · 05/03/2020 18:26

OldQueen - not a leap. It's glaringly obvious.

GalOopNorth · 05/03/2020 18:27

oldQueen I completely agree.

This is being allowed to happen.

And the elderly and vulnerable will die. And the government know that, and they are letting it happen.

And it will also be at the expense, both physical and emotional of our absolutely brilliant NHS staff.

Meanwhile, they are talking about closing Parliament.
