Does anyone know when we might get feedback from today's meeting - I hope they're going to come up with strict guidelines that we'll no doubt all moan about, but at least we can try and minimise the effect of CV. Would be awful to have to cancel Crufts, Cheltenham etc., but may well be much better than the alternative.

Spacecadetagain · 02/03/2020 09:13

@ofwarren it’s a tiny village school with a total of forty pupils and they seem to be taking it all very seriously thank god

Nicepud · 02/03/2020 09:14

Neonrain judging by the reaction I got when I called to complain about the school policy/letters dd won't be getting treated any more leniently.

Blame the school policies that reward parents sending their dc in no matter how seriously ill (because what 5 year old doesn't get one illness in a year?) and punish responsible ones who keep them off.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 02/03/2020 09:14

Just watching Lorraine and the doctor is talking about the virus. He’s not filling me with confidence, but at least people might actually realise how serious this can become.

Iusedtobeapartygirl · 02/03/2020 09:14

To those asking about hand washing at school, I'm a teacher (part time, don't work on Monday).

We had official advise last week on hand washing before eating, after going to the loo and after playtime and PE lessons. I spoke to my class about washing hands properly, including fingertips, base of thumbs etc.

After play we all hung our coats up then had a squirt of hand sanitizer each before going to sit down.

I was also very careful not to panic the children, as I teach KS1 and year 3. I just talked about not wanting to catch coughs and colds.

EgonSpengler2020 · 02/03/2020 09:15

@Nicepud

Dd has gone in this morning with a fever. This is because I've already had a letter tgreatening me about her attendance.

Given your dd medical history I think my reply to that letter would be "I'll see you in court then". The local authority wouldn't have a leg to stand on with an unwell child who is already under consultant care.

SirVixofVixHall · 02/03/2020 09:15

I wouldn’t send a child to school with a fever ! If they have a temperature they need to be at home resting, or any illness could end up being more protracted anyway. When my elderly and frail mother was still alive I used to feel sheer rage at parents commenting that they had dosed their children with Calpol and sent them into school, as then they would infect my children and me, and I wouldn’t be able to visit my mother at all. Same when I was trying to support a close friend going through chemo.
People are so blasé about spreading illness, we rely far too much on antibiotics, hence the growing problem of resistance. We need a massive shift in public behaviour if we are to slow the spread of CV. Including schools accepting that ill children should not be in school ever.

MarshaBradyo · 02/03/2020 09:16

Ah I see Aj that does sound right actually

RhodaCamel · 02/03/2020 09:17

This is going to go on for several months as yet it’s not going away anytime soon, I think lots of big organised events will get cancelled in the near future, this is going to have such a massive impact on the worlds economy.

mintyneb · 02/03/2020 09:17

nettletea my DD also has CF and diabetes and is halfway through a 4 week course of fluclox.

We have a regular clinic appointment at the Royal Brompton this afternoon so it will be interesting to see what the team say.

I'm trying hard not to worry too much but with an 'at risk' child it can be hard at times

Spacecadetagain · 02/03/2020 09:17

I’m quite relieved now that I’m one of those weirdos who always has a hand sanitiser in every orifice . I’ve already got two bottles in the car and one that I keep in my bag so they’ll do for now . My local shops have all sold out

PotholeParadise · 02/03/2020 09:19

And yet, if people post on MN about their child's attendance because they've stayed off with raised temperatures in addition to the times, people jump of them like a cat on a mouse.
I only ever keep my kids off for being properly ill and D&V guidelines. Result? There was a meeting in which I was patronisingly asked if I'd heard of Calpol before. Hmm

HipHopBanzai · 02/03/2020 09:20

@ofwarren

This article says which hospitals are testing flu patient

alloutoffucks · 02/03/2020 09:21

I wouldn't keep my DCs off for a small fever. I don't even have a thermometer any more so if it was a small temperature I wouldn't know. General colds they get sent in.

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/03/2020 09:23

Hopefully a good thing to come out of this will be that people's attitudes towards illnesses and "soldiering on" might change. We absolutely should not be praising people for working through it or sending their children in to school dosed up with calpol. Its so short sighted.

Jrobhatch29 · 02/03/2020 09:25

@T0tallyFuckedUpFamily i just spoke to my gp about it and she didnt fill me with confidence either

halcyondays · 02/03/2020 09:25

I also think it would be a good idea if they encouraged anyone who can work from home to do so, as of now. Without waiting until they have a worker who actually has Corona.

Spacecadetagain · 02/03/2020 09:25

My DD had a bone tumour and was off school for six weeks Sep/Oct after having surgery to remove it then was struck down with a cold in the new year so had a few days off . I was severely moaned at by the school and told due to her low attendance because if her surgery . I should dose her with cal poly . Today I called and said she was staying home due to the current situation (did is full of anxiety this morning ) and they didn’t bat an eyelid . I’m pretty disgusted to think that any school would welcome children in with temperatures etc at the moment . Safety is more important than attendance figures !

BiBiBirdie · 02/03/2020 09:26

I've now reported a thread on here to MNHQ as it's turned into a bunfight of the "we know better than you it's not that bad you are mental and should be arrested for scaremongering" variety
I'm half tempted to tell them I hope they all bloody get the sodding virus as I'm sick of it and I'm sick of MN taking no notice of bullying regarding being worried about the very real threat this virus poses.
I know MN has it nasty element but these type of ill informed ones are putting us all at risk.

Doglover123a · 02/03/2020 09:26

@Redpriestandmozart I’m hoping cobra will put something firm in place about crufts and other events .Due to go to Crufts at the weekend . I swing between going and not . Will be using airports and trains to get there. Staying with a relative who is also going so not worrying about the cost and I don’t want to let her down. But I am concerned that it could be a potential feeding ground to spread a virus .

Spacecadetagain · 02/03/2020 09:26

Apologies for typos . Autocorrect madness I meant Calpol

Grinchlywords · 02/03/2020 09:26

.

tmh88 · 02/03/2020 09:27

Yes 1 where I live diagnosed yesterday and all the local supermarkets sold out of hand gel!Shock

MereDintofPandiculation · 02/03/2020 09:27

We need a massive shift in public behaviour if we are to slow the spread of CV. We need a massive shift in employer beahviour over sick leave policies, and sick pay. If you're on the breadline, 3 days loss of pay is not manageable.
