@YoursTunbridgeWells

I understand that at certain stages the government may need to lie to us to avoid civil unrest. The problem we have in the world of social media is that it is very easy to lose faith in what the government is telling us, and this may have repercussions when we disbelieve the government when they eventually get around to telling us the truth.

I’m worried for sure. I think the nhs is in trouble already I fear. I called 111 yesterday morning at the advice of a pharmacist (non corona related issue in a child) and they took hours to call me back to tell me that they were very busy and will try to call me back soon. A nurse eventually called me back at 9pm. She was pretty useless and said that we needed to speak with a gp and one would call me back within 2 hours.... well I’m still waiting.

The NHS is struggling to see a child with an issue that needs a dr. I’ve wasted time of several healthcare workers. The 111 call handler said the situation was “mad” yesterday with all the coronavirus calls.

I’m worried that if you need the nhs for another reason, you might well find yourself waiting a very long time.

purplepjamas · 02/03/2020 08:32

Ok so we've just had a text from my sons secondary school. Closed today due to a power outage.

Well....I've not seen any evidence of an outage according to the power grid maps.

Could be the actual building I suppose but I am wondering if it's really a suspected COVID-19 case...? (Apparently neighbouring academy has a teacher off and they work closely).....

Tin foil hat time. The head is pretty straight talking and I wouldn't put it past him to close the school for the kids sake but of course they aren't allowed to tell us about a "suspected" case are they do this would be a good way to close the school in the interim. 🤫🤔🤥

Mind in overdrive.
DS face lit up when we got the text, then his phone went mental with his mates....safe to say they are all quite chuffed. BlushGrin

One of the new coronavirus cases in the UK is a health worker, the local NHS trust has said.

They are a clinician at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in north-west London.

ofwarren · 02/03/2020 08:33

A 2nd death from #coronavirus has been reported in the United States. The victim is a 70-year-old man who was infected in Washington State.

ShatnersWig · 02/03/2020 08:36

Spacecadet I wasn't talking about the event being cancelled - I was talking about people spouting bollocks (the event being cancelled was how she got onto the bollocks).

In terms of the event, it probably should be.

purplepjamas · 02/03/2020 08:38

Actually no, the power outage is on the map now. 😳😳

Iamanaubergine · 02/03/2020 08:38

My local paper is reporting that one of the West Yorkshire cases (3 apparently) is in Ilkley. A town popular with older people and commuters to Leeds. They had apparently returned from a holiday to Italy.

HasaDigaEebowai · 02/03/2020 08:39

Re people spouting bollocks - far better that they're spouting overreacting bollocks than under reacting bollocks.

Obviously it would be better if everyone just stuck to the facts but that is never going to happen. Look at all those still mocking and saying "Its just the flu!"

Spacecadetagain · 02/03/2020 08:39

@ShatnersWig ah yes I get you . It doesn’t help . Our village has gone crazy with scaremongers all over the local fb page then at the same time the other side being the “it’s just a cold “ brigade 🙄 I hope they cancel the big event also not least because I’ve never agreed with it anyway . My 74 year old father who has COPD is currently to frightened to leave the house

NettleTea · 02/03/2020 08:42

well my Ocado delivery turned up. took advantage of the 30% off for new customers. I now have enough cat food to run a small zoo.

Im not in a panic, but Im making sure that if at any point we have to throw ourselves into isolation that we have enough food to last it out OK.

tomorrow I will be putting in an extra prescription request for my daughter's CF medicines, plus the CF trust have recommended keeping some broad spectrum antibiotics in the house as a precaution, but dont currently advise doing anything else beyond the hand washing. She also has diabetes.

Her clinic at Kings is on the 12th so I will be keeping an eye on the progression before I decide whether I advise her to travel up to London for that or not.

My son says there are a few kids off at his school, but then theyve been very strict regarding self isolation from day one from just about everywhere. With boarders I think they need to be.

NettleTea · 02/03/2020 08:45

My mother who is still very ill after her return from Seville, who 111 brushed off, is slightly improved yesterday. This is a big relief, although she is still really congested in the chest and still struggling to breathe. Cant get out of bed. Cant eat. But surprisingly stoic and not keen on calling doctor after being dismissed by 111.
I believe my father is calling the surgery today. He hasnt been great, but not as bad as my mum

alloutoffucks · 02/03/2020 08:46

I am surprised as she has CF she does not already have some antibiotics in the house just in case. I have a respiratory condition and it is standard for people with my condition to have this.

Babyfairy0923 · 02/03/2020 08:46

I’ve reluctantly sent my children to school 😣 has anyone kept theirs home today??

peridito · 02/03/2020 08:46

@GPwife2411 hi ,thanks for new thread .

trying to be helpful ,hope doesn't seem bossy

Mumto1girl3boys · 02/03/2020 08:47

I wasnt worried about it until I found out its in dundee now!

ShatnersWig · 02/03/2020 08:48

Hasa I disagree, it can be just as dangerous because you then get people not knowing what to believe and they may ignore something that's genuine. Last week on a local FB group, someone started a post about Covid and someone was talking about everyone using hand sanitisers. A GP and a scientist posted to say why this wasn't good and that hot water and soap were what should be used. Someone then came on and said "I think everyone needs to use hand sanitisers". It was pointed out to this person that a GP and scientist had explained why not and her response was "doctors aren't always right and I actually haven't read up anything on Coronavirus anyway". Then start silly arguments and admins turn off commenting and every time someone starts a Coronavirus thread some total bollocks gets spouted with the result that people now hide ANY thread to do with Covid and could miss out on genuine information. As with anything of this ilk, it feeds drama/crisis hounds.

screamer1 · 02/03/2020 08:49

I've told my dh to ask about how they're ensuring my 3 and 5 year old will be washing their hands properly. They've put hand sanitizers in all classrooms and have sent an email saying the school is always kept to highest cleanliness standard. So hoping it's ok. But my 5 year old CONSTANTLY had his fingers in his mouth and not sure how they're going to stop that.

Wombatstew · 02/03/2020 08:49

There have been a few more cases in Australia today, I think the total is now 33. One of the new cases is the sister of a case that returned from Iran recently and it's the first contracted person to person within Oz. There is another case which is a HCP I think a Dr but I am not sure if they are connected to any other case.
The weather is still hot at the moment late 20's so we shall see if the temperature stops it from taking off here.

NettleTea · 02/03/2020 08:50

@alloutoffucks yes we usually do, but she used them up recently and they havent been replaced

Robuns · 02/03/2020 08:51

@Babyfairy0923 are there suspected cases at the school? It seems that schools closing or being advised to not go in are erring on the side of caution, if neither of those have happened yes send them in. This isn't me minimising it.

alloutoffucks · 02/03/2020 08:52

@screamer1 They can't stop a 5 year old putting their fingers in their mouth realistically. But 5-year olds if they get the virus do seem to get it very mildly. For young children this is no worse than the usual viruses circulating.

WaterSheep · 02/03/2020 08:52

A member of the council that advises Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, has died today after falling sick with Covid-19, the Associated Press reports, citing Iranian state radio.

Springinsight · 02/03/2020 08:53

Pickled, that's what concerns me as well possibly more than corona.

Other sick people can't access 111 and medical care.

Quartz2208 · 02/03/2020 08:53

I guess they know it’s a pandemic but think calling it one will make it worse

Is shown to take 7-9 days to reach critical point (if it does) so it must be pretty wide spread

The problem is the mild cases are no different from other respiratory viruses so no one knows.
