Can I just ask you all something? It's my nieces birthday this evening. My dad flew back from Sweden today, having travelled 2 days ago. Am I being completely paranoid to not want to be around him this evening?

I realise the chances are small, but I've got young kids and don't particularly want to take any risks (if that is one)? What are your opinions on mixing with people who have recently been on aeroplanes / in airports?

Hugglespuffed · 28/02/2020 14:04

runningaway is there any further information on this case? You say people should be punished but what if they have no known links to any of the infected countries? I have a mild cold at the moment (sniffles etc...) but I have a doctor's appointment this evening for something unrelated... should I not go? Genuine question.
I have not knowingly been in contact with anyone who has been to the affected countries or links to so should be clear?! Maybe these people think the same?
It isn't fair to always place blame if the advice is mainly to self isolate if been to the affected countries and develop fevers (apart from the areas in lockdown)

LittleRen · 28/02/2020 14:05

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus Where are you reading this as I am reading one person in Germany is critical in Gangelt, a man in his fourties with an underlying health condition.

Please can people post sources.

penguinsonaslide · 28/02/2020 14:05

What are your opinions on mixing with people who have recently been on aeroplanes / in airports?

If you're out and about in your daily life you'll be mixing with those people anyway.

Parker231 · 28/02/2020 14:06

@screamer1 - I’m sure it will be fine. No greater risk than getting the tube to work each day.

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 14:06

UPDATE on coronavirus (#COVID19) testing in the UK:

Today's figures will be published later this afternoon.

We are working hard to provide you with the latest information and will tweet this out as soon as possible.

LittleSwede · 28/02/2020 14:07

Thanks for that update ofwarren, suspect this might mean more cases to be announced!

Ciwirocks · 28/02/2020 14:08

Have Italy had no more cases today or is there reporting delayed? Just find it surprising when we have had 3 so far

LarkDescending · 28/02/2020 14:09

Italy’s morning report (scheduled for 11am GMT) has been delayed until 5pm GMT.

LarkDescending · 28/02/2020 14:10

I think Italy had been making 2 reports per day, so perhaps the decision has been taken to consolidate it into a single report in the evening.

RocketFire · 28/02/2020 14:10

i think this is now the start of it. I also believe its far worse than we realise

too much being hidden

screamer1 · 28/02/2020 14:10

Thanks @Parker231

Moomin8 · 28/02/2020 14:12

Air on aeroplanes is recirculated though isn't it so if you're on a plane you're more likely to become infected than generally.

Frazzled2207 · 28/02/2020 14:12

@LittleSwede
That is very reassuring , I think.

screamer1 · 28/02/2020 14:13

That was my @Moomin8

penguinsonaslide · 28/02/2020 14:16

I also believe its far worse than we realise

Based on what?

Parker231 · 28/02/2020 14:17

Article about air quality on planes

If you're planning to fly domestically or abroad, there are a few things you might want to know about the air quality you can expect during your flight. Airlines carriers are quick to say that the air you're breathing inflight is recirculated and filtered regularly, which means you're not being exposed to things like bacteria and viruses through the recycled air.

In fact, because of the high-efficiency filters on most commercial airlines and the frequency the air is recirculated and filtered, the air you're breathing on your flight is likely much cleaner and less contaminated than most office buildings and is on par with the air in most hospitals.

janemaster · 28/02/2020 14:17

Why is the UK no longer showing on that coronavirus website?

Snowdropsdelight · 28/02/2020 14:17

Where I am, several people been sent home with symptoms from the second areas on phe list.

Quite a few. Some people were in Italy, tenerife on holiday, don't feel well but 111 won't test them, because they are not matching the precise data for today.

It's all around us folks.

Thinking now, and all the arguments for and against longer term closure. I think schools and colleges should have remained shut for two weeks after half term. I know the symptoms may remain hidden for longer but the cats out the bag now. And it would have helped identify cases, brought precious weeks for the NHS.

Where I work there is no hope for any of us

MyFavouriteColourIsBlue · 28/02/2020 14:17

Place marking

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 14:20

I hate this wait for the late 2pm report

OffTheShelfElf · 28/02/2020 14:23

Where is the report published, ofwarren?

tinytemper66 · 28/02/2020 14:24

Two colleagues went to Venice over the first half term weekend; one of them is now unwell but in work. Apparently it is something they have had for weeks!

allthesharks · 28/02/2020 14:24

I haven't caught up yet so I don't know if this has been mentioned already (I assume it has). The article doesn't make it clear if the person who has died was still in Japan.

Snowdropsdelight · 28/02/2020 14:25

Screamer I wouldn't choose to take that risk right now. Unfortunately due to my work I've been very exposed and in close quarters. However. If I was still sahm, or different work, dh work is tiny, no travellers, spaced out, apart from the school we don't come into closer contact with airport travellers....

So I wouldn't.
