There are a lot of posts of people worrying. I thought it could be helpful to share positive and assuring information in one thread.

For me, the most reassuring thing so far is the fact that of approx. 1500 people in the UK suspected to have and tested for CV have come back as negative.

I bet the Abel's will feel a bit like they've got a super power when they're out and recovered but with immunity!

Spacecadetagain · 09/03/2020 12:57

I agree with another poster who said instead of a daily case announcement .. there should be a “much better” announcement ! I like the sound of that . Out if the current total cases across the world .. at least 50000 people have already RECOVERED .. its a glass half full thing .. we need to focus on the positives

PineappleDanish · 09/03/2020 12:59

You know the NICEST story was on Twitter this week. A craft activist called Shannon came across a quilt which was started in 1976 to mark the 200 year anniversary of the US and never finished. She got together with lots of other people, finished it, got in touch with the original stitcher's family and it's now on display.

Crafting is great for mental health too :-)

Sky News has a breaking news that we’re still in “contain”...hope so.

As well as the “recovering nicely” reports, we could do with “took paracetamol, now binge watching Fleabag” etc so we know it’s a regular sick day!

AutumnRose1 · 09/03/2020 13:00

X post
Oh Pineapple I saw that too! So cool!

PineappleDanish · 09/03/2020 13:03

Even the BBC are at it. "280 people have the virus in the UK".

No. That's not right. 280 people have been diagnosed. Several - like the Singapore super spreader man and his GP wife - are better and have recovered. It's a little point, but important I think.

AutumnRose1 · 09/03/2020 13:05

Pineapple, indeed the total who had it.

I note the news channels are heavily focused on Italy because even they can’t make enough drama out of what we’ve got here.

tud41 · 09/03/2020 13:06

Oh god the doomsday brigade will not be happy if we are still in contain....

ShanghaiDiva · 09/03/2020 13:11

Some positive news from China. Dd’s School is still closed and they have online learning. Form teacher told class he went to Pizza Hut at the weekend. It’s been a bumpy road so good for dd to have some positive news.

3luckystars · 09/03/2020 13:13

I am only watching funny things. I'd recommend knocking off the news!

I watched Billy Elliot last night, I have been meaning to watch it for years, the film is absolutely brilliant. You could really pick up the atmosphere of tension and stress and it's such an uplifting beautiful and funny story. I cried watching it. Don't let this negativity get you down, there are rays of light and beautiful things around us and this will pass. Have hope and don't worry.

Roussette · 09/03/2020 13:23

Billy Elliott is a fantastic film.

I'm all for feel good stuff. Walk in the woods, just made some pastry, have to find something to put into it for tea, my DCs sending me funny stuff on whatsapp, I'm attacking a carpet with a stanley knife to dump it, ready for a new one to be fitted and it's just a tiny bit more spring like here and won't be long before the clocks change.

Stay cool everyone Smile

AutumnRose1 · 09/03/2020 13:35

Definitely contain, yay!

Billy Elliot is terrific.

I haven’t seen the musical but I have seen a grown up Tom Holland doing some epic dancing ...

Layladylay234 · 09/03/2020 13:41

Thanks for all the people keeping the thread positive. I understand some may be finding the situation anxiety inducing, but this thread should be here to try and bring a bit of balance to your thinking.

I'm 28 weeks pregnant, studying at a big uni which means I have to take public transport and have been out into the town for lunch today. The chances of me getting it from my daily routine are miniscule.

I had been a bit anxious a few weeks back but once this thread got going,I had a massive mood change. I hope this is the same for others.

Oh and I have a group chat with friends who live in various places abroad. One in Turkey, one in Dublin, one in Spain...all baffled by the people panicking here.

My best friend also got back to the UK from teaching in Beijing in Jan just before all this kicked off. He can't return at the moment as the unis are still closed. He's been travelling Europe seeing friends...been to London,Essex,Spain,Portugal,Gibraltar,France,
Switzerland...and has not let any of this stop him.

Let's keep up the positive stories people.

MinesaPinot · 09/03/2020 13:46

Thanks to all the positive thoughts and info on this thread. I keep telling myself that I'm not going to look at any other threads, and then I do, and then I get worried and anxious...…

Layladylay234 · 09/03/2020 13:49

I find if you go back on those threads, look at them from a distance. I mean, look at them with a sensible brain...and it soon becomes clear how the panic is perpetuating itself.
I read someone post a few weeks ago that they were going to try and get it soon as then they'd know the NHS would be in a position to look after them.

Does that sound like sane reasoning to you?

tud41 · 09/03/2020 14:25

Some on the doomsday thread are so desperate for a real life horror movie... most would think a small number of cases today would have been a good sign....

doomsday thread person.... its only low as it was a weekend yesterday so not as many would have been tested... WTF

Jrobhatch29 · 09/03/2020 14:30

I ventured on there earlier and it had me close to tears x

Spudlet · 09/03/2020 14:31

Oh yes, it’s a well-known fact that urgent disease responses stop for a nice roast on a Sunday Hmm

Just back from a walk with my own ddog - no hares dancing today, but I did see four wagtails having a bit of a set-to. And I unzipped my coat and left my scarf and gloves at home! Spring is on the way!

Awks · 09/03/2020 14:35

I read someone post a few weeks ago that they were going to try and get it soon as then they'd know the NHS would be in a position to look after them.*

They'll be running down the high street with their tops off asking Chinese people to sneeze in their mouths 😂

AutumnRose1 · 09/03/2020 14:36

Spudlet - you saw hares? Wow! I’ve got to get a countryside trip in soon.

Sunshinegirl82 · 09/03/2020 14:37

They are too far down the rabbit hole now, until the entire country is shut down under military guard they won't be happy.

I actually think the Government is doing ok and it pains me to say that because I hate Boris Johnson with a passion and wouldn't trust him to tell me the time whilst we looked at the same clock.

I do trust the civil servants and scientists whose jobs are to advise the Government on how to deal with this. I suspect the fact that the increase in numbers today was relatively low is part of the reason we remain in the containment phase.

Spudlet · 09/03/2020 14:37

I’m currently watching Anna McNuff’s Barefoot Britain videos on YouTube. She’s an adventurer and last year, ran round the British Isles in her bare feet! She is quite bonkers and extremely upbeat, and I challenge anyone to watch her and not have a smile on your face. I recommend it for a bit of a lift!

Thymelord · 09/03/2020 14:40

I would love to see a hare, they are gorgeous!

We are watching the rabbits out of the office window today. The poor little things were nearly all wiped out last year and the year before with myxomatosis, but it seems they are back! We also have a pair of ducks wandering around, which is bizarre given that we are on a soulless office park in the middle of an industrial estate.

Emmapeeler1 · 09/03/2020 14:47

Joining thread Smile

I need a bit of zen.

I am anxious enough so am keeping my distance from this (while washing my hands lots).

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/03/2020 14:51

Ok positive types. DS is on gap year travels at the moment, currently in Australia, but due to leave for Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Sri Lanka next week. He is desperate still to go and is keeping a close eye on the virus situation. He’s got very good insurance and a flexible ticket which enables him to change dates but not his route ( so I guess he could miss out a country but not divert to somewhere new without paying extra). Ultimately it’s his decision as he’s an adult, I know. I veer between thinking ‘it’ll be ok’ to wanting him to stay put in Oz where at least the isolation facilities may be better.
What do you think?
