There are a lot of posts of people worrying. I thought it could be helpful to share positive and assuring information in one thread.

For me, the most reassuring thing so far is the fact that of approx. 1500 people in the UK suspected to have and tested for CV have come back as negative.

@DobbyTheHouseElk, You are right re the thread, apologies if I have posted anything too negative.
Going for a walk to get some fresh air while the sun shines.

Spacecadetagain · 09/03/2020 11:34

We have a confirmed case in our next village which freaked me out a bit this morning as someone posted about it on our local fb page but I feel better now seeing everyone’s comments of .. so what etc .. I live in a tiny Cotswolds town and with the sun shining this morning everyone is out and about walking their dogs etc and just cracking on as normal which gave me a sense of normality this morning . I’m high risk so feeling anxious but trying to keep it in check mainly for my DCs so they don’t feel worried

Orangeblossom78 · 09/03/2020 11:37

Jrob the Sky link I found informative as well, very useful and not dramatic, thank you.

HonestlyItsFine · 09/03/2020 11:45

Sky link was very useful! I don't think I am going to read any more MSM on this- I'll read the updates on the official government websites and check here- much better for my mental health!

Asgoodasarest · 09/03/2020 11:46

Thank you for this thread. I’ve been completely overwhelmed these last few days with anxiety and information overload. I’m now only coming on here and I’ve made a pact with myself that I’ll only follow advice / guidelines from official sources (NHS for example).
Some positives for me. Firstly it’s really made me look at how I can be healthier in the short and long term. I think I’ve become a bit lazy and so I’ve got plans to start couch to 5k this week.
I’m also a SAHM and spent some time over the weekend looking at how I spend my days. I feel totally stuck in a rut so I looked at what I can do to fill my time more productively and be in a position to start a new career once my youngest starts school.
I know it might seem like a funny link, but I’ve spent so much time worrying about things largely out of my control, that getting on with things I can control has made me feel brighter.
Thank you to everyone for your positive contributions.

Love the sound of Ralph!

I walked through a wood this morning and played some songs I love and sung at the top of my voice. It was beautiful not my singing, the wood Grin

I think once this blows over - which it will - there needs to be a review of how this thing has been reported and how information has been communicated by the media and the government. Things like the hysteria over cases rising, without any information about how many of those are active cases and how many people have recovered, for example.

i thought this yesterday. imagine the hysteria if the minute by minute updates were the same with swine flu.... 61million people got that virus in the USA alone.... they would be on thread 8000 in the doomsday threads if they posted about those numbers...

HonestlyItsFine · 09/03/2020 12:04

It's a great time to bury bad news, isn't it? The media have a lot to be responsible for. Doomsday headlines are helping nothing.

lakequeen · 09/03/2020 12:14

I just read (and lost the source or I'd link) that people recovered from the virus show 'clear signs of seroconversion' which strongly suggests reinfection is not possible, and that it behaves like most other viruses, with infection conferring immunity.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/03/2020 12:16

That's interesting, yes you would hope so (immunity). I hope that is the case.

HonestlyItsFine · 09/03/2020 12:16

lakequeen, also very reassuring!

Orangeblossom78 · 09/03/2020 12:20

Does anyone else find it is the images in the media stresses them the most, like the Hazmat suits etc. I find the way it has been reported and the images worse than the illness itself in a way. and the stress about the uncertainty with isolations etc. I know they need those overalls and suits etc but it just seems so 'sinister' in a way. Some of the stuff rom China was just bizarre, playing American swing music in the streets while they disinfect them for example. Like something from a film. Also the thought of having to go into pods and the like for tests

Anyway I digress, sorry if that is unmentionable. But wondered of others had felt like that also. Would it be like that here in the NHS.

AutumnRose1 · 09/03/2020 12:22

Orange, where do you even see this stuff?

Actually don’t answer that, this is a positive thread, why even mention it.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/03/2020 12:24

I'm mentioning it as I wondered of others found it disturbing also, as it is a mental health thread where people discuss things which worry them? thought people might understand that maybe not

Just on things like BBC news nothing weird. I'll keep quiet then, about my worries.

AutumnRose1 · 09/03/2020 12:26

“ I'm mentioning it as I wondered of others found it disturbing also”

This is a positive thread. The disturbing stuff can go on the panic thread.

Alsohuman · 09/03/2020 12:26

I find the weirdness of those images actually helps me dissociate from them.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/03/2020 12:28

I watch the Abel’s on YouTube occasionally. They have been in a hospital in Japan due to catching CV on the cruise ship. They are upbeat. They’ve been told they can’t be reinfected.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/03/2020 12:30

I think most people must have seen that stuff it is on the news all the time? Confused. Sorry if I upset anyone. Feel a bit anxious about posting on here to be honest and the constant pressure to be 'upbeat'.

Kind thoughts to everyone though

There was a thread late last night, someone asking who’d take her DD or stay with her - 14 - if her parents couldn’t. Lots of us said we would.

Help across community is a great thing.

HonestlyItsFine · 09/03/2020 12:34

Twitter. Twitter is where you see that stuff, avoid.
I'm so glad I found this thread. I am still anxious, but I have some perspective.

AutumnRose1 · 09/03/2020 12:35

I’m on Twitter.

I don’t follow hashtags or anything though. Mostly I follow art and nature accounts.

Kind of amazing how much beautiful artwork there is out there.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/03/2020 12:36

I'm not actually on Twitter or social media at all, I'll keep quiet now

HonestlyItsFine · 09/03/2020 12:45

I don't follow hashtags either. I'm on twitter to follow/engage with fans of an interest I have. But people I follow for that share all sorts of stuff outside of that too.

PineappleDanish · 09/03/2020 12:51

Things like the hysteria over cases rising, without any information about how many of those are active cases and how many people have recovered, for example.

I totally agree with this and said something to the same effect further up the thread. People hear "300 cases of Covid 19" or whatever, and visualise 300 people lying in hospital beds, seriously ill. That's not it at all. Most will be recovered, asymptomatic, or at home looking after themselves. Of course the numbers are going to rise if you just keep adding on new cases to the total rather than knocking off the people who are better.

Unfortunately the people getting swept along in the hysteria are not thinking about that.

Also saw this morning that the Abels, the elderly couple on the Diamond Princess, hope to be home soon. She is fully recovered and testing negative now, he is much better too but can't be released from hospital until three negative tests in a row.
