Ireland - wearing black armbands for a game near October 7th?

1000 replies

mids2019 · 05/10/2026 05:49

So the Irish football team thought it would be some sort of protest to wear black armbands for their recent mat h against Israel and guess what strangely the Israeli team wore black armbands for the victims of the worst terrorist atrocity in their country. So the Irish were left wearing black armbands for victims of the Israeli Gaza conflict but I guess not the victims of October 7th? No wonder the Israeli players were pissed. Ireland then dress and threw the dummy out the pram by saying they shouldn't be playing Israel again......pretty pathetic.

You can also see how for countries like Ireland October 7th is being erased from history as when they went for their black armband protest they probably very stupidly forgot about the proximity of a day of Israeli national mourning.

It's the double standards, I'm pretty sure you'd be condemning something you didn't agree with and again for the trillionth time it'd give some of you the opportunity to say no, I don't agree with supporting that kind of crap. Not asking you to get a placard out and go chanting anything.

Would I? I read things on here everyday that I don't agree with and i don't 'condemn' them nor do I chase people around asking them to condemn it either. You've spent how many pages of this thread trying to get people to say your little lines?

You obviously feel strongly on this, that's fine but I don't. I'm not disagreeing with her book being taken off the shelves in the UK. Like I said that's the consequences of her actions. I really don't see what more is to be said. Person does something that they aren't allowed, person takes the consequences.

As this thread is coming to it's conclusion I will repost the words of the Israeli Minister for National Security when speaking about the Palestinian people.

"They should be crushed to pieces, starved to death and not resuscitated with humanitarian aid that gives them oxegyn"

Ben Gvir, Israeli Minister for National Security
He is only one of many Israeli politicians who have spoken like this.

I say thank you to Macklemore, Kneecap, Fonataines DC, Aaron Rowe (who I came to listen to as a result of his brave decision and love his music) , Sally Rooney and many others. They keep using their platforms to highlight the plight of the Palestinian people.

Onwards and upwards for the Irish football team.

You can be pro Palestine without supporting terrorism. Palestine Action is a violent group. Sally Rooney could have supported a non violent pro Pal charity instead. The publicity around this is obviously helping her book sales.

Oh stop I'm knotted laughing here. That's hilarious 😆

It’s really not that funny . Palestine Action are a violent group.

For those who find this all very amusing

“Since its inception in 2020, Palestine Action has orchestrated a nationwide campaign of direct criminal action against businesses and institutions, including key national infrastructure and defence firms that provide services and supplies to support Ukraine, NATO, Five Eyes allies and the UK defence enterprise. Its activity has increased in frequency and severity since the start of 2024 and its methods have become more aggressive, with its members demonstrating a willingness to use violence. Palestine Action has also broadened its targets from the defence industry to include financial firms, charities, universities and Government buildings. Its activities meet the threshold set out in the statutory tests established under the Terrorism Act 2000. This has been assessed through a robust, evidence-based process, by a wide range of experts from across Government, the police and the security services.

In late 2023, Palestine Action released “The Underground Manual”. The document encourages the creation of cells; provides practical guidance on how to carry out activity against private companies and Government buildings on behalf of Palestine Action; and provides a link to a website that contains a map of specific targets across the UK. The manual encourages members to undertake operational security measures to protect the covert nature of their activity.

Through its media output, Palestine Action publicises and promotes its attacks involving serious property damage, as well as celebrating the perpetrators.

Palestine Action’s online presence has enabled the organisation to galvanise support, recruit and train members across the UK to take part in criminal activity and raise considerable funds through online donations. The group has a footprint in all 45 policing regions in the UK and has pledged to escalate its campaign.”

OpheliaWasntMad · 16/10/2026 15:27

Quite a sinister organisation- and one that has pledged to escalate their activities.

You seem very concerned. You should start a thread on it, you might actually reach British people, you know the ones who this actually concerns rather than banging on about it here to people who have nothing to do with any of it. I'm sure Gloria would join you wherever you decide to start it, it seems very important to her too.

And yet British people are divided on whether they should have been classed as a terrorist organisation.

I wouldn’t contribute to them personally but that said I don’t know too much about them so that’s not really a hugely informed opinion.

Britons split on the banning of Palestine Action

Although the group is twice as unpopular as it is popular

Are we doing eulogies as threads end? Ok I'll join in. An irish poster upthread confirmed there is an anti semitism problem in ireland so let's hope people have learnt something, work on that and places like the Herbert hotel are held to account.

People like Rooney can support whomever they so wish but perhaps illegal terrorist groups not the best choice and let's all hope Macklemore doesn't let his mask slip again and dress up as a caricature of a Jew.

Onwards and upwards for peace in Israel and gaza, sadly I don't think hamas and their jihadis pals will ever allow it.

I think if people knew more about the organisation they might understand why it is designated as a terrorist group.

Irish people understand the problems in Ireland much better than you do @Gloriia and @OpheliaWasntMad. We don’t need to be told how to behave.

ColadhSamh · 16/10/2026 15:51

Palestine Action, Palestine Action, Palestine Action.

Honestly it is like a broken record. Not one member has been convicted of any murder, any bombing, any grabbing of lands and homes and other criminal acts. Their only crime is and was peaceful protest.

11 April 2026, 523 people were arrested at a peaceful protest in Trafalgar Square, London.

3,630 terrorist arrests in UK are linked to support for Palestine Action. 94% of all terrorist related offences in UK.June 25 - June 26. In the same time period terror arrests in the UK have increased by 1,553%

Foreign secretary Ed Miliband was asked about all those elderly people and vicars and grannies and so on who were being arrested and he replied “I don’t think anyone’s intent was to have those people criminalised.” Yet that is exactly what is happening. Some on here supporting and defending it.

On the other hand we have Israel which is responsible for the murder of 240000 children, the ongoing murders and rapes of thousands of women, the murder and rapes of thousands of men, the grabbing of land and removing Palestinian families, the bombings of hospitals, the attacks on the Christian community, and on and on and on. Yet people defend this regime and its brutality..

Another reminder of just one Israeli politician

"They should be crushed to pieces, starved to death and not resuscitated with humanitarian aid that gives them oxegyn"

Ben Gvir, Israeli Minister for National Security

Sally Rooney should support a non violent organisation that is obvious and it wouldn't be hard for her to find a non violent one that focuses on humanitarian aid.

Ben Gvir isn't just one Israeli politician as in an average one.

He holds very extreme views as clearly you know and is not representative of the whole Israeli government. I highly doubt his party will be voted in again.

No one is feeling sorry for themselves no need for the hyperbole. It's just the absolute fixation with posting constantly about negative things to do with Ireland that's quite revealing
