Conflict in the Middle East

Is the green party starting to regret it's association with Islamists?

mids2019 · 03/10/2026 10:32

The green party, ostensibly about climate protection and general progressive values seems to have gotten into bed with Islamist sympathisers and the amount of anti semitism and basic hatred of their own country is now obvious.

The green party now at least locally are known as a party that has sympathies towards all manner of Islamist causes including Hamas's objective to wipe Israel of the face of the Earth.

Wouldn't be surprised if they produce a motion declaring climate change a Jewish conspiracy........

When I say Israel are famously good liars, I mean the Israeli government and their spokespeople. I'm actually starting to have some respect for the likes of Ben Gvir, Smotrich, Daniella Weis, Katz and all the others. At least they are honest and openly declare their intentions instead of using weaselly words, like most Israeli spokespeople, to try to deflect from what they really desire. I feel there are a number of posters on here who are exactly the same.

Absolutely. The Hamas leaders, in Gaza, made a huge mistake. They thought that having the hostages would stop Israel from attacking and force them to the negotiating table.

Edited

Since you can read Israel's mind so clearly, how about you tell us what Hamas wanted from these negotiations exactly, if their hostage strategy had gone the way they wanted?

Read "Those who dared to speak out" by Paul Findley. It's an eye opener to show how many US politicians have been either bought or coerced through blackmail. Western political ambivalence to the Genocide is not a moral decision, it is bought and paid for.

You keep banging on about this as if it has some relevance but okay, Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan is so unusual as a Muslim majority state, it is telling that is the only country you could name where Jewish people are treated as equals. Such an unusual Muslim country that they have even banned the hijab in schools.

From the Telegraph:

Through the glass, the lesson goes on without them.

Schoolgirls in headscarves stand in the yard, faces at the window, watching classmates they can no longer sit with.

Some wipe tears from their eyes.

Such scenes became widespread in Azerbaijan this month after the government banned the hijab in schools.

The decision has triggered a national dispute over faith, schooling and identity in the South Caucasus nation of nearly 11 million people, where roughly 96 per cent are Muslim.

The state, however, is constitutionally secular.

The question many are asking is why a Muslim-majority nation would shut Muslim girls out of class.

The answer lies less in religion than in politics.

Baku is fixated on “ideological security”, wary of Iran’s reach across the border, and determined to keep faith out of its public institutions, analysts said.

I'm not sure the Hamas leaders in Gaza had a clue. I believe they were also following orders.

More conspiracy theory then, and you can't just answer the question.

Figures. 🙄

Who cares about Azerbaijan. I just gave you that as an example because you kept badgering as if it was supposed to mean something. I actually regret I engaged with such an irrelevant whataboutism.

So Hamas have orders from shadowy (Jewish??) figures - and both they and many "ordinary" Gazans civilians were happy to be manipulated into a mass suicide attack that was preceded by a bit of rape and murder by there unknowns giving orders?

This is getting worse - it's sheer white supremacism/racism to assume that Palestinians are too stupid to see "what anyone (else) with eyes can see".

Where did I say Jewish. You do know the main Hamas leaders are not actually in Gaza don't you. Who do you think Netanyahu was speaking to when he arranged for suitcases of cash from Qatar to be delivered to Hamas leadership in Gaza.

You bought it up because it was the only Muslim majority country you could think of where Jewish people are treated as equals. Yet you were insisting that in the one state solution you proposed, there was no reason to worry that Jewish people would be discriminated against once they became a minority population.

Not whataboutism, very relevant to why a one state solution would not be safe for Jewish people if they lost their country. The region under discussion is not secular like Azerbaijan so the example you gave is not valid.

Well how about this for "irrelevant whataboutism" then: in 10 days, over 1 million Arab citizens will be able to vote in democratic elections. Guess where?

Meanwhile Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has postponed both legislative and presidential elections until September of next year. If they go ahead then (which TBH seems unlikely given Abbas is now in the 21st year of his four year term)

Hamas - of course, since they are not keen on letting Palestinians have a voice either - called the postponement “a step in the right direction” and said further talks should focus on rebuilding Palestinian institutions and holding elections at a later date. Well surprise, surprise.

And that's the country you think should exist instead of Israel: a country where child marriage (of girls to old men) and violence against women are normalised, as in most other countries in the Middle East.

And I haven't even mentioned the absence of gay rights.

But hey, let's give the men of Hamas, and the PA, complete power over anyone who wants democratic rights in Palestine, because a party called Islamic Resistance is clearly going to usher in an era of freedom and democracy for all. And you are so full of Jew-hatred that you support that. FFS

"Jews lived in the region continuously since day one." Are you sure about that. Surely the majority of posters on here would refute that.

I think the attitude of Israel has been leave us alone and we'll leave you alone. If you attack us we'll attack you. Quite logical. A lot of Palestinians used to get work in Israel and sell their products to Israel but no longer

As rants against Muslims go, that was quite impressive. So now we are to digress into a sociopolitical discussion of government. Why hasn't Ukraine had elections?

Agree. So Hamas launched an attack following some nebulous orders and without a proper plan, without considering the likely consequences, actually looking for military targets, but then stumbling upon a festival and a kibbutz, and accidentally raping and killing lots of civilians?

And then they thought to stop Israel from (absolutely predictably) retaliating, they’d take couple hundred hostages with them. Brilliant plan.

One almost gets the feeling that the only thing some people will accuse Hamas of is being a bit silly and disorganised.

Once again, never mentioned Jews. There are many many Jews who find Israel an embarrassment because of the conflation that they insist on inflicting on them.

You keep asking people if they think all Muslims are the same, it’s getting quite tiresome.

Nobody says they are, yet the vast majority of Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East share a documented, historical hostility toward Jewish minorities.

The fact that you have to rely on Azerbaijan as a rare exception says it all.

Ukraine last held elections in 2019 whereas Abbas was elected in 2005. Hardly comparable is it?

Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 which is why there have been no elections since.
