Conflict in the Middle East

Is the green party starting to regret it's association with Islamists?

The green party, ostensibly about climate protection and general progressive values seems to have gotten into bed with Islamist sympathisers and the amount of anti semitism and basic hatred of their own country is now obvious.

The green party now at least locally are known as a party that has sympathies towards all manner of Islamist causes including Hamas's objective to wipe Israel of the face of the Earth.

Wouldn't be surprised if they produce a motion declaring climate change a Jewish conspiracy........

My heart leaped when I read that, but alas... only the first paragraph is attributable to Lucas, the second is added commentary by a Nicole Lampert.

Ah sorry I misread it little didn't I

Pick up a history book and read about the nakba.

Oh please do that yourself. Tbe truth is fascinating stuff. You would be shocked at statements about what actually happened given by the Arab leaders at the time. Plus the original meaning of the Nakba, the great 'Catastrophe' as they called it.

Oh and where did you find this “truth”? This has become the latest mantra of supporters of the Israeli government recently, any negative coverage must be biased, lies etc. The nakba was a real event and I know what the word means, thank you. I’ve read about it from many sources - the one place you won’t find it mentioned is in Israeli textbooks where it has been conveniently wiped from history.

You can literally just Google statements from Arab leaders about it and Google to findthe original nakba meaning. Then use any source you like my darling

That doesn't answer the question in the slightest.

That’s not answering pp’s question.
And why do you assume they haven’t heard about the Nakba?
Around 850,000 Jews were also violently expelled or displaced from Arab nations around that exact same time.

Actually many migrated to Israel voluntarily around the time of the creation of Israel and although a significant number were expelled it was over much longer period of time. But what has that got to do with this? The initial point was why are there still Palestinians (rather than Arab Israelis 🙄), my point was that there are far fewer than there should be.

Pick up a history book and read about the nakba.

That’ll be the invasion of Israel by SIX Arab neighbours the day after it was set up legally, right?
Then when six countries couldn’t beat the tiny, impoverished newly-born Jewish state, they told the local Arabs to move out for a few weeks so their armies could massacre the Jewish civilians and win the war that way - but couldn’t fulfill their promise their promise so that the Arabs who left never got to come back.
The Arabs who stayed got full citizenship of the new country.

Seems fair enough to me. It’s called losing a war you started.

Are you also a big supporter of sending back the 20 million displaced people from the creation of Pakistan around the same time? Or the Armenians, Jews and Greeks displaced during the creation of Turkey two decades earlier? Oh wait no, the Turks murdered most of those so they don’t have descendants.

And have you ever done the same with Israeli historians, such as Benny Morris? His books are extremely well researched - much more thorough than googling.

Btw, I don’t believe the actions of the Israeli settlers back then is any different to the British, or other colonisation of many countries and the brutal treatment of the local populations. But to deflect any criticism of Israel’s past actions, to deny them is just fundamentally dishonest.

And as I pointed out in another thread, there's much talk about Israel never really wanting peace (subject of a recent Oxford Union debate), but nobody ever stops and asks who started the war(s) in the first place.

The reason Israel is currently at war with the Palestinians, Syria and Lebanon, is because they all declared war on Israel. It wasn't Israel that started it, and the aforementioned bad actors can always decide to make peace.

5MinuteArgument · 11/10/2026 16:48

I have sympathy for Jews who support Israel. I don't think Jews in a Palestinian state would fare very well. Look at the numbers of Christians who are fleeing the Middle East.

But I wonder what would happen if America dialled back its support? There's a growing far left movement, growing Muslim demographic and in years to come America will become majority Black and Asian.

Israel needs to stay strong in case it's needed as a refuge in the future.

Th nakba started before the breakout of the Arab-Israeli war. The Deir Yassin massacre happened a month before the war even broke out.

What happened before the war broke out though? Do you think they all invaded on a whim?? Have you heard of Plan Dalet?? Do you understand that war is complicated and denying any culpability for one side is totally unrealistic?

Have you ever looked at interviews on radio and in newspapers from Arab leaders of the time. Seriously some bloke wrote a book or reading about the nakba second hand on social media is not the same as actually listening to the voices involved at the time

Also tbe Nakba narrative has largely been rewritten and it originally meant something slightly different to what people think today. Really bad stuff happened on both sides, which is something I don't think many people deny but being willingly ignorant of the major part one side played to cause the Nakba to be so damaging does not make sense.

Neverstopwondering · 11/10/2026 16:59

Think someone needs to answer the question posed originally rather than continue on a path that won't work in favour of their views

Former Green leader Caroline Lucas has admitted the huge problem with entryism, the dual headed nature of the problem is clear:

She writes:

"With over 1000 councillors and more than 220,000 members, as heatwaves follow floods, we’re a major part of our nation’s political landscape – and our influence is increasingly being felt.

But many of those councillors - including in Haringey where I live - these councillors ARE the entryists. They don’t give a stuff about the environment but pursuing their hard left agenda which includes Jew hatred."

Jew hatred is far right, why is she trying to pin all this on the left? We have and always will be about tolerance and love for all. For crying out loud its in the bleedin name 'progressive'. I'm sick of us taking the blame for all the hatred in this world that is being caused by the rise of the far right. Stop playing into their hands!

Antisemitism is on the far left too.
Certainly today’s antisemitism is of the leftist “progressive “ variety. Which must be causing great hurt to Jewish people on the left.

Which war? The war of independence broke out after Israel declared independence, but the Arabs had already started a civil war 6 months before, on the day after the UN vote. In addition to the skirmishes and massacres that had been going on for 20 or so years previously.

The Arabs were massacring Jews in 1929 before there were any Jewish defense militias. They started a civil war in 1947 the day after the UN voted for the Partition Plan.

And when the Jews declared independence they put in their deceleration (closest thing to a constitution Israel has): WE APPEAL - in the very midst of the onslaught launched against us now for months - to the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve peace and participate in the upbuilding of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its provisional and permanent institutions.

Israel not only didn't seek to expel anyone, they explicitly stated they would give the Arabs equal citizenship. And the ones who stayed, indeed are Israeli citizens with equal rights.

That didn't stop all the Arab nations trying to invade the next morning.

All the lies and denial in the world won't wipe away history.

JanefromLondon1 · 11/10/2026 17:34

Weird how Gaza’s population has grown about 3% whilst a genocide is taking place. The Greens etc are just antisemitic, they don’t care that Christians are being slaughtered around the globe by Muslims.

KatiePricesKnickers · 11/10/2026 17:39

I see the thread has been derailed by the pro-pal lies.
So predictable.
