Conflict in the Middle East

Worrying reports of Iran attacks on Kuwait and wider regional tensions

Iran is firing at various countries tonight, Saudi and Kuwait.

Kuwait confirms its main border crossing with Iraq has come under repeated attack.

Seems Iran wants to drag in other countries. Hitting a border crossing between Iraq and Kuwait isn't US targets.

It doesn't feel like the situation is improving at all. I feel for the people in the middle of this.

Re Christianity in African nations, have you seen what the US evangelicals have been up to ? Especially in Uganda.

Death sentence for being gay? Yup, that is the US evangelicals at work.

Quote " I do think there is commonality between “death cult” branches of religion. You see it Iran and especially their proxies. Gaza is mainly Sunni but the constant incitement of conflict combined withearly indoctrination into the ideaology of martyrdom ( through children’s, songs, textbooks and broadcasting) creates generations of militants willing to die for the cause."

I am not sure about that re Iran. I have never heard of Iranian or Shia suicide bombers . That seems to be Sunni ISIS. Usually of Saudi origin. Or the bombers are anyway. Of course the Saudi Government are not involved. They just bone saw journalists.

Re Gaza. I am not sure I would say Iran is inciting a conflict. The conflict is there already. Palestinians v Israel. Yes, they support Hamas and Hezbollah. But the conflict itself predates 1979 when the Islamic Republic of Iran came about. For sure there are Palestinians who have done suicide attacks on Israel, but are they connected to Iran ? Hamas is Sunni after all.

Google AI tells me (re Shia suicide bombers):

In the early 1980s groups within the Lebanese Shia community utilized suicide bombings as a tactical weapon against foreign military forces during the Lebanese Civil War and Israeli occupation. These historical operations primarily targeted military barracks, outposts, and convoys (such as the 1983 U.S. Marine barracks and French paratrooper bombings, or attacks against Israeli forces in Lebanon), rather than civilian sectarian gatherings. Over subsequent decades, mainstream Shia political and militant organizations largely moved away from suicide bombing as a tactic, and contemporary suicide bombings in the Middle East and South Asia are overwhelmingly perpetrated by Sunni extremist groups (such as ISIS or Al-Qaeda) targeting Shia civilians in mosques and public spaces.

Thanks @GentleSheep

So that confirms what I was saying. That Suicide is not a usual tactic of Shia.

Was your search for worldwide events, or just Mid East ?

I remember there was a suicide attack against Iran fairly recently. Baluch separatists. They also attack Pakistan, because their claimed area straddles the 2 countries. I mention that because terror attacks seem to be remembered and later attributed whoever is in the current news, if you see what I mean. The Baluch are Sunni. They do a suicide attack, and people remember it as Iranian.

Worldwide. I guess the Shia figured it was better to live another day so they could carry out more attacks.

Where are these attacks ? World wide I mean ?

Salman Rushdie is in the news just now because his attacker is on Trial. And we can put that down to Shia and the Iranian Fatwa that was issued in the 80's.

What else ? Hamas and Hezbollah ? Yes, Iran is involved, but the root cause is something different than "advancing the Shia Ideology, or "Shia world domination"

In fact, an argument I often see put forward to defend what is happening in Palestine, is that there is no genocide because if there was there would be loads more dead. Therefore, there is no genocide, or else Israel are really bad at it. If I apply that logic to Iran, and by extension Shia, there either is no world wide Iranian terror campaign, or if there is, they are really bad at it.

You may not know this but Irans constitution explicitly obliges the Iranian state to spread the revolution abroad. They have never hid it. Hezbollah is an explicit part of that strategy, so yes the root cause of Hezbollah is Iran. This is why so many lebanese find them objectionable. They are a milita group that is answerable to Iran, Lebanon has an armed forces and it has a government, yet they can be overruled by a group of nutters with guns. This is clearly not democratic, to have a militia loyal to a foreign government. Everything they do is because Iran wanted them to do it.

You may not like the source but from page 9 downwards you can see all the worldwide terror incidents Hezbollah has launched on behalf of Iran.

Iraqi militias launched missiles at Kuwait during this conflict, that was on the orders of Iran.

Often underestimated by some, many countries are not friends with them, for good reason.

Yes precisely, kuwait is on that list, saudi is on that list. Yet people for some reason people expect the gulf countries to support Iran or accuse them of being puppets of the west when they have been on the receiving end of Iranian aggression before. Again middle eastern history flattened and ignored because fundamentally it must be the wests fault or Israels fault, no other answer can do.

The obvious answer is that Iran has imperialist ambitions and it weaponises antipathy towards rhe west and Israel to achieve that and convince fellow muslims that they are on the right side of history, no matter how many people they have killed or through how many proxies they have waged war and oppressed people in their own countries. Syria is probably the worst example of this, what Hezbollah helped to do in Syria should have been enough to have it denounced by everyone.

That’s the most bizarre idea of the Middle East politics on this board that I have ever read. And probably the most far fetched from the truth that is possible.

JadeHare · 26/07/2026 22:42

The reason I post all my news articles is because I honestly believe some people do actually live in parts of the world that news is censored. It’s not that hard to believe if you have lived in other places. It’s not nice to post such snide comments.

No I’m not and I’m well aware news is censored in some places.

But if you live somewhere under heavy censorship, then perhaps accept that you will not be getting a full picture of extremism rather than question people saying Hezbollah operate abroad.

It’s not nice the pile ons that happen to me on a regular basis on this board but that doesn’t bother anyone. I get plenty of snide comments and you know it.

Suddenly you want us all to be “nice”.

Or you just want me to be nice?

1, 195 people killed. Not thousands. Nothing to do with Israel and the US attacking Iran though.

A mere 5 away from 2 thousand. And over a thousand. So yes, thousands. And quite frankly, if they hadn’t made the choice to cross the border and commit those atrocities - including putting babies in ovens, murdering children and raping and murdering young women in front of their families, then none of this escalation would have happened in the first place.

So what - I miss read your figure. You must be feeling very pleased with yourself. I’ve had a long day and I’m tired. But yes, default to the usual ‘oh you must be thick’ leftist insult if you must. How very original.

And for what it’s worth, I’ve just searched for the number of deaths is actually 1250.

And by the way, what exactly did you think Israel should have done in response to the Hamas terror attack. Nothing?
