Conflict in the Middle East

Worrying reports of Iran attacks on Kuwait and wider regional tensions

Iran is firing at various countries tonight, Saudi and Kuwait.

Kuwait confirms its main border crossing with Iraq has come under repeated attack.

Seems Iran wants to drag in other countries. Hitting a border crossing between Iraq and Kuwait isn't US targets.

It doesn't feel like the situation is improving at all. I feel for the people in the middle of this.

I'll take that as a No then from you as you do not appear willing to condemn Iran for targeting Kuwait's desalination plants.

Still interested to hear responses from others too like @MissyB1 and @RedTagAlan

I already told you - Iran shouldn’t have been invited to! When you square up to someone and punch them in the face be prepared for anything they might do in retaliation. Will you admit it was all totally predictable? I hold America and Israel totally responsible for anything that happens in this war, they wanted it! They knew full well what all possible consequences were, they still decided to start it. They didn’t give a shit about any consequences.

It’s not acceptable for the US to bomb desalination plants in Iran. It’s not acceptable for Iran to retaliate by bombing desalination plants in Kuwait. What have you gained from me saying that?

It’s not acceptable that the US and Israel started this war of choice either, but here we are.

And what do you think about Hamas making the choice to go into Israel on 7/10 and murder thousands of innocent Israeli civilians? Or is that different? That was a war of choice wasn’t it.

No one was "inviting" Iran to hit a water desalination plant in Kuwait, you are just choosing not to make a moral judgement about Iran committing what is probably a war crime.

You could replace "America" for "Hamas" and see if your reasoning still makes sense to you.

I hold Hamas totally responsible for anything that happens in the Gaza war, they wanted it! They knew full well what all possible consequences were, they still decided to start it. They didn’t give a shit about any consequences.

Were you absolving Israel of any accountability because of the above? No.

1, 195 people killed. Not thousands. Nothing to do with Israel and the US attacking Iran though.

Bringemout · 24/07/2026 19:44

On why I think Iran is not targeting Israel, I think it’s simply that americans will bomb infrastructure and the israelis will work down the hierarchy of IRGC organisation and just assassinate them. I think there is a very personal risk to the IRCG if they piss off the Israelis. The bare truth of it is that mossad is probably the most competent intelligence agency that exist right now.

It might have had a little bit to do with Israel wanting to attack Iran don't you think? Considering what Iran had done to their civilians via Hamas.

Yes I agree. Even the IRGC have some sense re not using their own hands to shake the Hornet's nest.

Ok to get Hamas to do it as they are expendable. We have seen how Hamas leaders involved in 7/10/23 continue to be picked off one by one and killed.

On the desalination plants it is probably a war crime because the only purpose is to inflict pain on civilians. Yeah the Americans probably did make civilian sites permissible to hit to a degree because they were staying in them, some of those hotels I know for a fact had already evacuated armed forces weeks before they were hit, I imagine the IRGC knew as well there was no army presence so yup war crime if they knew (which I think they did). Hitting the camps is standard and every gulf government and every gulf citizen and every american would expect that.

In regards to the airport in Kuwait they hit fuel depots, I’m extremely sceptical of the idea that the cia were operating out of there. Anyone who’s transited through Kuwait or been there will know that Kuwait airport is fricking tiny, unless they’ve massively built it up in the last ten years I remember it being very small.

Strangely, both can be true. This is not yet another thread about Israel and Gaza. Let’s keep it that way.

Completely agree. Tbh I do understand the wanting to attack the regime in Iran. I don’t believe the Israel Gaza conflict will ever be resolved whilst they extend their influence through Hamas. I feel for the Gazans as they are being used as political pawns by people who don’t give a fuck about them. The same goes for the Lebanese and Yemeni. Ordinary civilians who are kept poor and suffering by satellite groups of Iran.

That said I don’t think the U.S. can win, it’s like Afghanistan you could pour in endless resources and the minute you leave the whole thing just bounces back.

It's pretty obviously a war crime to hit a desalination plant in a Gulf country regardless of whether the US are doing it or Iran.

I'm getting the sense that the IRGC are out of control and acting wildly. Making enemies all over the place and sabotaging a deal that could have been good for Iran, whose economy is in freefall.

According to Sky News, Tehran's currency has hit new lows in recent weeks amid demand for foreign currencies, with the resurgence of military hostilities ratcheting up pressure on Iran's economy, which is already grappling with 60%-plus inflation and negative growth.

People will say the same about Trump being out of control and acting wildly, with some justification 😂

Bringemout · 24/07/2026 20:04

I also think theres only so much time during which you can scream death to xy and z whilst fueling proxies that harm those countries and their interests before they start paying very close attention to you. The reality is they use proxies so they can deny involvement, but it is no different to killing amercans or israelis yourself. Hell they helped to kill between 500k- and a million syrians but for some people they are still the good guys. and then I see people on twitter hopping mad that syrians stopped arms being smuggled to hezbollah, theres a reason Syrians hate Hezbollah and it’s completely justified.

The simplified view of west bad and east good doesn’t fit here. It’s easy to digest as a worldview but it’s completely wrong and ignores the reality of the middle east and it’s complex history.

Heres another one for the IRGC lovers, during the iran iraq war they would hang keys around the necks of small boys and tell them if they died they would go straight to heaven and then they sent them out to trigger landmines. It’s one of the most horrendous things I have ever heard.

This is why I don’t understand the whole “israel is uniquely evil” spiel, it’s like people have never read anything about the way arabs and iranians have fought or behaved in the past. One thing you never see with israelis, they don’t strap bombs to their children and send them out, they don’t use them as mine clearance, they don’t use them to dig tunnels and then leave them there when it collapses, they don’t marry them off at 9, they don’t say it’s fine when our children die because we can just make more. This shit horrifies normal arabs and Iranians too, all of it, but because of “the resistance” more people turn a blind eye to it than should. Israel becomes the excuse to inflict untold harm to so many people. Iran has killed way more arabs than israel ever has, that should tell you something.

The IRGC going is the best thing that can happen for the entire region frankly.

Oh yes completely agree, the Americans definitely committed a war crime when they hit desalination plants. The reality is Iran has problems with its water tables, this does harm civilians. I think the americans may be trying to tip the population over the edge and cause mass revolt.

I think the thing about the IRGC is they will never ever give the Americans what they want. They aren’t obliged to of course but thats means that the alternative is war. They absolutely can never have a nuke.

Lentilcakes · 24/07/2026 20:10

Just destroy the Iranian regime and all its proxies and all will be well.

There needs to be mass protest about Burnham allowing Trump to use our airbases. Now.

I didnt see this on the news but looks like Burnham has backtracked on Starmers stance and is now allowing US to use UK bases! This should be really big news but seems to be low down on UK press priorities. What has Burnham got us into after only a few days...

JadeHare · 24/07/2026 20:30

More Shia than Sunni in Bahrain. Wonder how that will sit.

Twiglets1 · 24/07/2026 20:47

One of the few good things to come out of this shit show @Bringemout is that there is more public awareness now that the IRGC are behind so much of the conflict in the Middle East via their various proxies. The "plausible deniability" that they were not directly attacking Israel for example, is no longer plausible in any way and everyone is surely aware by now that the Iranian regime are responsible for funding & supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis etc.

The UK government has acknowledged the significant thread they represent here as well as overseas and made it a criminal offence to support the IRGC.

Agree with you that the whole “Israel is uniquely evil” spiel is not backed up by the evidence of what other countries do and the Iranian regime has been particularly cruel to their own women and children. It's just horrific what you say about small boys being sent out to trigger landmines. If Israel did that the world would be up in arms and rightly so. But Israel is fiercely protective of their own people - which Hamas knew of course when they triggered the Gaza war.

Starmer also allowed the US to use UK bases for "defensive" purposes ... the UK stance has not changed.

The report also claimed that the United Arab Emirates, which attacked Iran several times at the beginning of the war, provided intelligence on the targets and defensive air cover for the strikes, a sign of emerging Arab cooperation against Iran, according to the sources.

Bahrain and Kuwait secretly carried out airstrikes on Iranian drone and missile sites earlier this month, marking their first direct retaliation against Tehran, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Iran has fired loads of ballistic missiles at Isreal in this war. About 300 by mid March.

Strategically it makes no sense for them to be firing on Isreal at the moment because of the distance and the ammo numbers game. Israel is a minimum 1000 miles from Iran. And at that range the Iranian missiles are fairly easily intercepted by US Patriot and THAAD interceptors, as well as the Israeli Iron dome. Because ballistics have a really high trajectory, have a long flight time, and have limited impact if they do get through because of relatively small warheads. Also, Iran has limited stocks. Estimated at 3000.

In the meantime Iran are firing cheap as chips drones and short range ballistics at closer targets. And that uses up US patriot interceptors. The USA is desperately short of interceptors.

Also note the Iranian attacks on Jordan last week, and through the whole war. They are targeting anti missile defense radar stations.

It's the same in any war, The first target is the defences.

Also of course, Isreal has not fired on Iran recently. It has been tit for tat, as usual. But the US are firing on Iran. So Iran fire back. While also targeting defenses in Jordan.

Technically and strategically, what Iran are doing makes total sense.

And this is before we get into curve of the earth and radar blind spots.

I could tell you a lot about the End Times but it's probably not the right place in this thread! Suffice to say that things are moving in the direction prophesied in the Bible, the next 'big war' will be the Ekekiel war involving Iran, Turkey, Russia, Libya and a few more nations that escapes me for now, who will all plot together to invade Israel. Remember this was prophesied around 2500 years ago when there was no nation state of Israel! It's been fascinating watching things unfold at speed over the past couple of years. Trump is unwittingly pushing things along 'nicely'!

I reckon you really should explain end times, especially the US evangelical version. That is a large chunk of Trumps base after all, and his Cabinet people. Hegseth being a high profile example. That is a major reason they want this war.

Michelle Bachmann, former US congresswoman and Presidential candidate explained it all very well on Israeli radio during a visit in 2015.

Michele Bachmann: Convert ‘as many Jews as we can’ | The Times of Israel

Natanyahu is very good at capturing the Raptureists on this. Even though the Evangelicals want to see him and every other non Christian burn in hell while they, the evangelicals, play board games and listen to Kid Rock for eternity with their version of Jesus.

Even GW Bush used it as part justification for his Iraq war. Gog and Magog. The bringing of end times.
