US President Donald Trump, speaking to Axios, says he will tell Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "not to retaliate" against Iranian missiles.

"I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate," Trump told the outlet, "Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike, and Iran had its strike. We don't need another one."

"We are very close to a final deal with Iran. It is going to be a good deal. I don’t want it to blow up because of what is happening now," Axios cites the president as saying.

Trump says that if Israel strikes back, the conflict will just continue for "47 years — or the last 3,000 years", according to Axios.

Trump is always saying they are 'very close to a deal' ! We need to see some progress on that front.

Since Trump has said he's told Bibi not to retaliate, will be interesting to see whether Netanyahu complies or not.

Israel say they fired back. I ran say explosions in 3 Iranian cities.

We can't really go by news feed times, but on CNN 15 mins between Israel saying they have retaliated and Iranian news reporting explosions.

I take that as meaning Iran wanted everyone to know Israel retaliated. Esp Trump. To show that Netanyahu is not listening to Trump ? I suspect so.

Israeli officials said that around 10 ballistic missiles were fired in four waves towards northern Israel, all of which were either intercepted or landed in open areas. No injuries were reported.

Iranian officials had threatened to retaliate earlier on Sunday after Israel bombed the southern outskirts of Beirut in targeted strikes against what the IDF said were a series of “Hezbollah command centres”.

“Tonight’s operation was a warning declaration, and in the event of repeated aggression, the responses will be more extensive and will encompass all American- Zionist targets in the region” the IRGC said on Tasnim, the Iranian state news agency.

Trump said, “What I would suggest to Iran: You’ve shot your missiles, that’s enough. Get back to the table and make a deal”

Trump has urged Netanyahu not to strike back. However, a security official has since told Israel newspaper Hayom that the IDF would retaliate “even if it does not happen in the immediate term”.

From the CNN feed, Iran say they have hit Iraq too:

"Iran has targeted what its military described as “terrorist groups” in Iraq, Iran’s semi-official Mehr News said Monday.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted the so-called terrorist headquarters in Sulaymaniyah, northern Iraq, the outlet said on Telegram.
Sulaymaniyah is located in the Kurdish region of Iraq, just west of the Iranian border."

Kurds fired at. Likely the Kurds that Trump boasted about arming.

Looks to me like Iran is sending a message to Trump.

Latest update: Israel has just announced it has struck military targets in Iran.

On social media in Iran people have reported hearing explosions to the south and west of Tehran.

According to the BBC, the IRGC says multiple waves of missiles fired at Israel are “the beginning of a full week of continuous strikes”.

Iranian state TV is reporting explosions in three cities - Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan.

Explosions were also reportedly heard near the central city of Karaj.

So - doesn’t look as if either side is listening to Trump right now. Let’s hope things settle down in the days ahead.

Iran has suspended all incoming flights to Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International airport “until further notice” according to local media reports.

Missiles launched towards Israel again.

Looks like the Houthies have blocked off the Red Sea to all Israeli linked vessels.

Netanyahu openly defying Trump again is not playing well to his base.

The real America First base is angry, especially as today is the 59th anniversary of the USS Liberty attack (where the IDF opened fire on the boat murdering 34 and injuring 171).

Netanyahu also attacked Beirut in the full knowledge that he was crossing Iranian red lines and that a response would likely target American bases, putting American lives at risk. #Greatestallyever.

Although Trump now does have the perfect excuse to remove America from the region permanently.

Israel and the US have told Iran there will be no more strikes if Iran does not fire again, Israel Hayom reports.

Iran’s response:

Meanwhile… the EU imposed sanctions on Iranian individuals and entities for threatening the freedom of maritime traffic, Kaja Kallas said this morning.

The foreign policy chief told reporters at an EU defence meeting in Cyprus that the sanctions had been approved, but did not elaborate.
