Doesn’t really look like anyone believes that Donald is going to come out of his stupid war with any kind of better deal.

More on Trump’s desperation: Iran only agreed not to carry out an attack on Israel after the US offered last-minute concessions: guarantees for Lebanon’s territorial integrity, an Israeli withdrawal from the Lebanon border, and an immediate end to the blockade, Fars reports.

Fars also says Trump conceded that Gulf waters transit rules will be regulated jointly by Iran and Oman.

Thanks for the updates !

Can we assume therefore the US will step up and protect Lebanons right to defend themselves if Israel don’t comply
They've done Nothing about the bombings and land theft in Gaza !

Netanyahu has told Trump that Israel does not consider itself bound by the Lebanon-related part of the proposed US-Iran agreement, Maariv reports.

Israel plans to keep troops in Lebanon, continue operations against Hezbollah, and respond to attacks as needed.

TopPocketFind · 14/06/2026 23:33

And just to reiterate, this is not a “deal”, as Trump claims.

It’s a memorandum of understanding which sets the terms for a further 60 days of talks.

😄😅😀😄😁🙃🫠, Maybe in a different universe and in a different lifetime.

No way, Netanyahu already saying Israel is not a party to the agreement so will not leave Lebanon.

Though Trump could do something extremely unexpected and just leave Israel to deal with Iran one on one. It would greatly improve his midterm chances and after the Israeli media has been cursing him for being weak.......

So now as the US has said they’ll ‘ guarantee Lebanons territorial integrity ‘ they’ll be switching sides then
That will be worth watching

Start your engines.... ready.... steady.....wait....

Worth remembering it has never been verified if Iran has mined the SoH as they claim. The US has not announced any mines found, even though Trump claims to have been "sneaking ships out". Through a minefield apparently.

I assume it will be Iran who will be removing the mines. Using ships that Trump sunk ?

And why is he saying "removal of mines"? Mines are not removed. They are usually destroyed in place.

Looks like we have dramatic video to watch in the next few days, as the mines are exploded.

Yes indeed. Also remember that he claimed all the Iranian oil wells would explode if not used. So when he says "let the oil flow", has he forgotten about that ?

I suppose we can assume that claim was fake.

That's the thing with a top down system with someone who is adverse to the truth at the top. His supporters put massive energy into trying to prove that what he says is correct, then he himself just "forgets" all about claims made.

RedTagAlan · 15/06/2026 02:02

This on CNN just now. Iran want their money released and the blockade ended before the MOI is signed on Friday.

The MOI that appears to be an agreement to start peace talks. Not a peace deal as Trump claims.

Is it possible that Trump has just told them whatever they want to hear so he can make an announcement on his birthday ?

I notice Iran has not specifically mentioned Lebanon here. So that put's the ball in Trump's court. Money and stop the blockade and then start discussions.

It looks to me that Iran has not been reading "The Art of the Deal". Maybe they tore that book up and found a better one.

CNN clip :

"Iran’s deputy foreign minister said Sunday that the 60-day negotiations between Tehran and Washington after Friday’s signing of the memorandum of understanding will hinge on the US meeting three commitments, especially release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian funds.

Those commitments include “lifting and ending the naval blockade,” “ending the state of war and military operations” and “releasing Iran’s frozen funds,” Kazem Gharibabadi said, according to remarks reported by Iranian official media.
“Entry into the 60-day negotiations is conditional on US implementation of its commitments,” Gharibabadi said, adding that once Iran verifies those steps — particularly the financial commitments — technical working-group negotiations would begin immediately.

He added that some arrangements were discussed “last night,” but that further talks in Switzerland after the formal signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding would address the structure of the negotiations, the creation of working groups and other necessary agreements."

Twiglets1 · 15/06/2026 06:25

BBC Analysis: The framework deal is crucial but also just a beginning

After so many false dawns, it seems that Washington and Tehran now agree on one thing – that a memorandum of understanding has been finalised, even if the elements stressed in each capital focus on those parts each finds it easiest to stomach.

Another key apparent element of agreement is that Lebanon does feature in both sides' description of the deal – though with Israel and Hezbollah not signatories, there will be significant doubt over their willingness to go along with it.

In truth, the deal – while crucial – is just a beginning.

It will kick off a period of 60 days during which the US and Iran will have to agree on how to destroy and remove Iran's nuclear material. That in itself could easily falter.

The exact status of the Strait of Hormuz is also something over which divergent views are still apparent, and the details around the timing of sanctions relief and the unfreezing of Iranian assets is still not consistent between both parties.

Twiglets1 · 15/06/2026 06:42

No @RedTagAlan it won't be Iran's sole responsibility to clear the mines. They claim to not even remember where some of them are.

Joint Statement from Britain, France, Germany and Italy (E4 group) emphasises a commitment to conducting mine clearance operations once the Memorandum of Understanding is signed.

“The urgent re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz with unconditional and unrestricted freedom of navigation is essential. We are committed to playing our part to achieve this —in accordance with our respective constitutional requirements— including through a strictly defensive and independent mission to reassure commercial shipping and conduct mine clearance operations.

“Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon. We stand ready to work with the US, Iran and the IAEA to this end. We are prepared to lift relevant sanctions in response to clear, verifiable steps by Iran on its nuclear programme.

“We will work intensively with the US, Iran and regional partners to seize this moment, maintain momentum and achieve a long-term diplomatic settlement.
“We also reaffirm our full support to the stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon and the importance of a robust ceasefire.”

Twiglets1 · 15/06/2026 11:14

Defence Minister Israel Katz says Israel will not withdraw from southern Lebanon, following the announcement of a ceasefire between the US and Iran, which supposedly also includes ending the fighting against Hezbollah.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I are leading a clear policy that determines that the IDF will remain in the security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, without any time limit, to protect, from there, the border and Israeli communities against jihadist elements,” Katz says in a statement.

He says the security zones will be “cleared of local residents, and all terror infrastructure, above and below ground, including the houses in the contact-line villages that served as terror outposts, will be destroyed.”

Katz says that holding onto the security zones is “among the IDF’s greatest achievements” in the war, and therefore, “we oppose an IDF withdrawal from Lebanon, despite all the existing pressures and those that will still come.”

“Prime Minister Netanyahu made these points clear to US President Trump and to other senior American officials, and I also made this clear yesterday to US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth,” he says, adding that the IDF also supports holding onto the security zone in Lebanon.

“We will not compromise on Israel’s security interests and the protection of our citizens, and we will not withdraw from the security zones,” Katz says.

Katz also warns that “if Iran attacks Israel because of events in Lebanon, we will strike it with full force.”

“We are committed only to our citizens and to the security of the State of Israel,” he adds.

Iran must fundamentally change its behaviour before any EU sanctions can be lifted, the president of the EU Commission said.

"The principle of sanctions is that we need real change on the ground before we can think about lifting them," Ursula von der Leyen told a news conference ahead of the G7 summit in France.

"Sanctions are in place to change behaviour. So if behaviour is changing credibly and verifiably, then you can lift sanctions," she added.

Von der Leyen was echoing the frequently stated American position that no funds would be transferred or sanctions lifted before Iran meets certain conditions.

However, Iranian media reported today that some $12bn in frozen Iranian assets must be released before in-depth US-Iran talks for a comprehensive peace deal start.

‘ June 14 (Reuters) - E4 nations including the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy said on Sunday the countries were prepared to lift sanctions on Iran in response to steps on its nuclear program after the U.S. and Iran reached a deal to end their war. "Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon. We stand ready to work with the US, Iran and the IAEA to this end," the leaders of the countries said in a joint statement’

but what they do in this regard is not part of the MOU
so 🤷‍♀️ won’t affect the agreement

meanwhile from that sky news link

  • Israeli attacks: A small number of Israeli attacks have been reported in Lebanon. It came after its defence minister insisted Israel won't withdraw from Lebanon. The government "will not compromise" on its security interests, he added. Hezbollah said it hasn't carried out new attacks since the ceasefire announcement.’

Which is all very relevant
Let’s just hope Israel stop and don’t continue to antagonise

US President Donald Trump has said a preliminary deal to end the war with Iran has already been signed and suggested that details of the agreement are set to be published "pretty soon".

The deal is all signed," he said during talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at the G7 summit on Monday.

Senior US officials also began giving some details about the contents of the deal,

the Strait of Hormuz would re-open on Friday .
any sanctions relief or release of assets will depend on Iran meeting commitments under the deal .

Iran will commit itself to "regional peace and stability", which Vance said included stopping the funding of "terrorist organisations".

Most importantly, they're going to have a verifiable commitment to not building a nuclear weapon,

The US officials said the agreement had been signed electronically by Trump, Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

They also suggested more details of the pact could be released by Wednesday - although Trump said the full text of the agreement would be released "pretty soon" after Friday's ceremony.

Announcing the breakthrough on Sunday, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose nation had been mediating,
said it included
the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon".
The US officials said that while Lebanon was covered by the ceasefire framework, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory was not a condition of the deal. Israel would retain the right to self defence, they added.

Speaking on Monday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces would remain in security zones in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza "as long as necessary", and retain the freedom to act against attacks.

Netanyahu was speaking after Lebanese media reported a deadly Israeli strike on a car in the south - the first since the peace deal was announced. Hezbollah said it had fired missiles and drones at Israeli forces in response

Trump on Sunday said he had ordered the immediate removal of a US naval blockade of Iranian ports

Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed the end of military operations in a phone call on Iranian state TV, which portrayed the framework deal as a victory for Iran.
Gharibabadi said that Qatari mediators held "nearly 14 to 15 hours of lengthy talks" in Tehran to reach the initial agreement.
Iran's top military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said that Iranians, together with the country's armed forces and Tehran's proxies and allies in the region, had shown the US and Israel that they had "no option but to accept defeat and surrender".
But Iran's foreign ministry said Tehran still held "deep mistrust" of the US and the agreement was "merely a step towards reducing tensions".
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun welcomed the announcement, saying in a statement that he looked forward to the understandings translating into "practical steps that will put a definitive end to the cycle of violence".
Key past sticking points have included Iran's nuclear enrichment and Western insistence that the country not possess a nuclear weapon, and Iran's desire for comprehensive sanctions relief and access to tens of billions of dollars in frozen oil revenues.
In a congratulatory joint statement, the leaders of the UK, France, Germany and Italy said Iran "must never acquire a nuclear weapon" and that they were "prepared to lift relevant sanctions in response to clear, verifiable steps by Iran on its nuclear programme".
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called the announcement "a hugely important step forward in ending the war, ensuring regional stability and re-opening the Strait of Hormuz".

Good news !

but not good enough
Israel invaded Lebanon and should not get to keep Lebanese land
The US stating Israel has a right to defend itself should never mean a country has a right to create buffer zones on stolen land. Where will this attitude take us

Nor is it acceptable for Israel to continue attacking Lebanon
The caveat ‘retain the freedom to act against attacks’ means they will do just as they are doing in Gaza, kill civilians and lie to justify it !

JadeHare · 16/06/2026 05:16

From Sky News:

“After a war that has cost an estimated $30bn, killed thousands and destroyed hundreds of millions of dollars worth of US military hardware, have any of Trump's declared objectives been fulfilled?
Five big nos
• No on Iran's nuclear programme: both the fate of Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpile and its enrichment project are to be discussed over the coming weeks. It remains far from obliterated.
• No to changing the regime: Ayatollah Khamenei and a slew of top-ranking commanders have been killed but have been replaced by even more hardline figures, apparently in no mood to compromise.
• No to helping the Iranian people who rose up against their government. If anything, the war has strengthened Iran's leadership, particularly if it benefits from sanctions relief as part of this deal, which seems more than likely.
• No to destroying Iran's ballistic missile arsenal. America's self-styled bombastic 'Secretary of War' had claimed it had largely been neutralised; US intelligence estimates 70% of Iran's missiles remain serviceable.
• No to reining in Iran's proxies. These are not part of any deal, it seems, for now at least.”

Trump has admitted defeat on Iran war after historic blunder — Sky News

Donald Trump has arrived for this week's G7 summit in France keen to celebrate his peace deal with Iran. But the agreement has only proved this war was one of America's greatest strategic blunders.
