UN Security Council to vote on Strait of Hormuz

The UN Security Council’s vote on a proposal to ensure the safety of ships in the Strait of Hormuz has been rescheduled from Friday to Saturday, according to media reports.

The council’s 15 members are set to vote on a resolution from Bahrain aimed at protecting commercial shipping in the critical waterway, which usually carries about one-fifth of global oil and natural gas supplies.

The Associated Press and Reuters news agencies have reported that a draft resolution includes text authorising countries “to use all defensive means necessary” to protect commercial shipping.

The proposal is considered unlikely to pass, as China, a veto-wielding permanent member of the council, has made it clear that it opposes any resolution that mentions the use of force.

Might as well all pop random flags on just to pass

I'm sure that would work brilliantly @Ihatetomatoes 🙄

This thread became totally redundant the moment Trump disclosed today that he wanted to take control of the SoH and charge toll fees.
You know, the Vz oil model. Take it. Sell it. Keeping the proceeds in a Qatari bank account that only he controls.
No one saw that coming... said no-one ever. (Especially Iran).

I think he thought that the Iran would war would be a repetition of what he did in Venezuala; pillage and plunder.
No, it was never about helping the poor, oppressed Iranian women. I doubt somehow that they are feeling much better now that their country has been bombed to smithereens.

Yup, He is basically using the US military as a tool in the biggest mob style extortion racket/theft in history. 90 million folk back to the stone age, cos The Don wants the oil.

Hopefully, he will come to regret pushing for the project below. Because really, it should be his new home.

Thank you @Efacsen

The UN security council is expected to vote on Tuesday on a resolution to protect commercial shipping in the strait of Hormuz but in significantly watered-down form after veto-wielding China opposed authorising force, Reuters is reporting, citing diplomats.

The latest iteration, seen by Reuters, drops any explicit authorisation of the use of force.

Diplomats said the watered-down version had a better chance of passing, but it remained unclear if it would succeed. It requires at least nine votes in favour and no vetoes from the five permanent members: Britain, China, France, Russia and the US.

I didn't recognise your comment as humour, no.

I'm not sure what the UNSC vote would achieve. It's obviously necessary to negotiate with the Iranians (properly, without threatening to bomb them back to the stone age, calling the crazy bastards, etc) if they want to increase the movement of ships through the SOH.

I think this shows how useless the un is in physical action.

@rainingsnoring how do you negotiate with such people though ? They lie ,don't care , and follow their own path ?

All this time they were supposed to stop going nuclear and look how close they have got.
Look at the incredible protection their mountains give them.

Look at how they are holding the entire world to ransom with this strait what would they do with a Nike?

Agree. From Sky in the last couple of hours.

"Malaysian vessel secures safe transit through Strait of Hormuz
One of the seven Malaysian-owned commercial vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz has been granted safe passage and is now heading to its destination, Malaysia’s foreign ministry has said.
In a statement, the ministry said it came after "high-level diplomatic engagements" and "constructive" talks with Iranian officials led by Anwar Ibrahim, the Malaysian prime minister. "

Something is working if ships are getting through. So keep working on whatever they are doing I reckon.

Efacsen · 07/04/2026 09:29

There is apparently vast amounts of humanitarian aid belonging to various NGOs being warehoused in Dubai with ongoing negotiations to ship it to the war-zones in N Africa

Hope that this can be expedited too - not just oil/LNG

I think your mind has been v clouded by what you have read in the Western media.

-The Iranians signed JCPOA. Trump pulled out.
-The Iranians complied with arms inspections for many years. Israel has never done so.
-The Iranians did not have and were not building a nuclear weapon. The late leader had a Fatwa against nuclear weapons.
-The Iranians have been negotiating and Israel attacked them twice during these negotiations.
-The US sent two individuals to negotiate with the Iranians, neither with any professional experience in the field, one of whom is his SIL, both of who are Zionists.
-The Iranians have been extremely clear that they would block the SOH if they were attacked again. The US and Israel chose to attack and assasinate their Supreme Leader and many other Iranian leaders.
-Trump has constantly changed his mind and threatened the Iranians in the most appalling language.

Are you sure it is the Iranians who are untrustworthy? The rest of the world if looking at the US as being the thoroughly untrustworthy party here.

I'm pretty sure I have read that this has been allowed. I certainly hope this continues.

@rainingsnoring why the uranium then?
Edited to add yes.
I do think the iRG is a murderous wicked vile regime with morals in the mud and who can't be trusted one iota

I can see that you think that. As I said, your mind has been clouded by the Western media.

What do you have to say about all the points that I made above which are based on facts and which you can google to check. As I said, is it really the Iranians with morals in the mud? You think Trumps latest TS post, posted at Easter, is written by someone with any morals? If so, why do you think this sort of language and sentiment is acceptable from an American in particular?

PuttingOutFirewithGasoline · 07/04/2026 11:46

If you can explain why Iran has uranium that will help with the other points in your post

They have Uranium because they have a nuclear power program A nuclear power plant for electricity.

Apparently, they have 450Kg of Uranium. I Think 60% enriched. But the % is being argued over.

You need to look up what % enrichment for what uses I am afraid though. I prefer not to have that in my search history.

PuttingOutFirewithGasoline · 07/04/2026 11:59

Oh I see ! It's for an innocent power plant.

That's very noble for a country drowning in oil!

Iran has allegedly been on the verge of acquiring nuclear missiles for almost 40 years

This has been achieved by negotiation inspection and satellite surveillance and has been effective for decades

Enrichment is very low anyway for civilian uses, not 60%.

Which is exactly what they were doing under JCPOA until Trump tore it up.
