“Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir wore a noose pin on his lapel to signal his support for the bill”

I first heard about this on Facebook and thought it might be anti-Israel fake news. But no, it’s true.

Absolutely horrifying and sickening.

Itamar Ben-Gvir wearing a black suit, red tie and white kippah, talking on a podium in front of Israeli flags

Palestinians convicted of lethal attacks face death penalty under new Israeli law

The new law, passed on Monday, was pushed hard by the far-right and Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

I recall many of those comments being said here
and if it’s being said it’s more of a worry what’s not being said.

Israel ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991.
The Convention could not be clearer: Article 37(a) explicitly prohibits the death penalty for offences committed by persons under 18.
Article 37(b) states that detention of children must be a last resort.

Article 40 guarantees fair trial rights for every child in conflict with the law.

Israel’s sustained response to these obligations has been to declare that the UNCRC does not apply to children in the occupied territories, a position the UN and international legal consensus firmly rejects
(TRT World, 2025; UN Special Procedures, 2025).

Israel’s sustained response to these obligations has been to declare that the UNCRC does not apply to children in the occupied territories

Good grief, where do even begin with this.

www.lawfaremedia.org/article/cruel-and-unusual--israel-s--death-penalty-for-terrorists--law

This article, dated April 22, 2026, written by two Senior Research Fellows at the Israel Democracy Institute, is informative. It includes the political context behind the enactment of the Death Penalty for Terrorists law, how the law is incompatible with international law and Israeli constitutional law, and the potential application of the law to perpetrators of the Oct 7 massacre.

A real low on a thread here was a poster very explicitly condoning the rape of Palestinian prisoners. The post was eventually removed and I’m assuming the poster has name changed. It stood for quite some time. Revolting.

Dear God there are some vile people around!

That is chilling. I would hope, if the law gets through the supreme court, this would be amended. I don't think, even Israel, could weather the storm of executing children.

criminal responsibility at 12 years old
Anyone who works in the area of child development knows how messed up this is.

Chilling is the right word to use.
12 year olds (especially those who have been traumatized and displaced multiple times) should never be executed under criminal responsibility. I teach that age and we all know how absolutely impulsive they are and their awareness of long term consequences.

Plus we know the IDF are liars. Like the two young brothers who they shot at the yellow line who were completely unarmed .(Note this was also justified by many posters on here)

Agree
It’s disgusting !

Ben Gvir condoned it
There were demonstrations in Israel to free the rapists fgs!

Which is the basic problem
This notion pumped out again and again
that Israel have a right to defend themselves

Justifying rape, imprisonment for throwing stones and killing kids has nothing to do with defending Israel
There is no justification for war crimes
and
No justification for this death penalty

I too hope @Boolabus that amendments are made to the death penalty excluding children
but then
i would also expect the right to appeal to be added
the right to translations
the right to legal council
the exclusion of all other countries
equality in sentencing and method of trial for all citizens

I don’t, however, think it will happen

But then I've been accused of denying that there could possibly have been any sexual abuse of Palestinian detainees when I had said nothing of the sort and when my post is clearly visible for all to see.

So I'm sceptical as to what was said on a post that may never have existed.

It existed just as @Ellen2shoes
has said
Aparently because Israel has a right to defend itself everything is fair game.

Amongst others Ben Gvir did
( see the news on the gang rape of a Palestinian detainee )

I can see why some would prefer to believe that I am lying. So much more convenient. I remember the name of the poster and the wording of the post. I wish I didn’t. There was a discussion at some point as someone said it should be left to stand so that people can see it for themselves.

personally I consider men with power in Israel more influential on the mindset of their followers than mumsnetters
but if you meant here even though Ellen was talking about a different thread
then
suggest

RTFT or others about kids being murdered by the IDF, babies abandoned to die in Gaza hospitals etc etc etc.
honestly
you’re really spoilt for choice here on mumsnet

Were you? Because this is copy and paste what I said.

But nonsense claims about training dogs to rape are propagated by people in authority like Francesca Albanese. - a post denying sexual violence towards Palestinians from yesterday.

You are calling sexual violence towards Palestinians 'nonsense claims' that is denying sexual violence towards Palestinians which is what I said you did. Obviously you feel that you have your own reasons to deny sexual violence towards Palestinians, I'm not really interested in those.

Point to the bit where you were accused of 'denying that there could possibly have been any sexual abuse of Palestinian detainees'? You denied sexual violence towards Palestinians, I never said all or any. Own your words and stop accusing people of bollocks or at least have the manners to tag me so I can prove you wrong.

I said that dogs are not being trained to rape humans. Because that's an implausible claim that requires some actual evidence.

As George Orwell said, "one of the marks of antisemitism is an ability to believe stories that could not possibly be true." Dogs being trained to rape is one such.

I think anyone who believes wild claims like that needs to give themselves a serious critical thinking check. Go look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, 'why am I so ready to believe a crazy story like this?' and then maybe take some time to actually find out the truth rather than believing any and every piece of propaganda out there.

George Orwell was spot on.

Yeah I’ve never seen anything saying that on MN and I was apparently on the thread in question yesterday.

We see so many examples of our words getting twisted and other peoples words getting twisted, I just can’t believe these recollections anymore.

If something that shocking was said, multiple people on the thread would be challenging it before it got deleted.

I said you were on a thread with people making blantant racists posts which nobody reported or questioned yesterday which you were. Has anybody said that you were on the thread where there was a poster very explicitly condoning the rape of Palestinian prisoners? Talk about twisting.

Sorry - are you saying that you believe that there ARE dogs trained to rape Palestinians?
Because what I did was express scepticism about THAT claim, and yet you requoted that as evidence that posters were "denying sexual violence".

So unless you think that dogs DO rape detainees, my post is not evidence of denying sexxual violence.

I don't know - this is so simple that I can't quite understand what you think you're saying.

Again swerving. You accused me of 'denying that there could possibly have been any sexual abuse of Palestinian detainees' back yourself and point out where I said that or you could just apologise and retract your allegations.

And I agree it is so simple, if you hadn't fabricated your allegations against me I wouldn't be able to believe why you don't seem to understand what is being asked of you.

FloralDeerPattern · 01/05/2026 16:51

Anyway this thread is being dragged back off topic again by certain posters. I'm not engaging any more. People can read back and see that what you are saying is bullshit.
