Israel votes for death penalty for Palestinians convicted of lethal attacks

“Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir wore a noose pin on his lapel to signal his support for the bill”

I first heard about this on Facebook and thought it might be anti-Israel fake news. But no, it’s true.

Absolutely horrifying and sickening.

Palestinians convicted of lethal attacks face death penalty under new Israeli law

The new law, passed on Monday, was pushed hard by the far-right and Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Israeli long ago should have been sanctioned/thrown out of organisations/competitions for murdering First Responders, Medics and Journalists often using double/treble strikes to maximise the death count.

That they now want to hang Palestinians is of no surprise.

I used to thing Russia was a murderous state (they still are) but compared to the Israelis, are lambs.

Stirabout · 23/04/2026 13:57

Israel have invaded Gaza and now Lebanon

Just like Russia they should have been thrown out long ago irrespective of this new death penalty law

They have absolutely no right to special treatment

If only Gazaans and Lebanese hadn't fired thousands of missiles into Israel, targeting military and civilians alike.

Fun fac: Syria, Egypt and Jordan don't fire missiles into Israel, and Israel doesn't bomb them.

Thanks Ellen
thankfully , irrespective of age, we do not to ignore the past

Syria is not really a single country any more - different factions are present in different areas and for example the Druze in Soweida have asked Israel to help protect them from the sort of exactions the current government is committing against civilians in places like Lattakia.

Also I wouldn’t rely too heavily on the Irish Times’ or Al Jazeera’s coverage of events there. They’re in thrall to the Islamists.

But the other two countries are very relevant to the point being made: neither Egypt nor Jordan are being attacked by Israel because they have not attacked Israel in decades. That’s despite both those countries having been part of the Arab coalition that attacked Israel the day after it was created because they didn’t want it to exist.

So Israel is happy to make peace with countries that are willing to make peace with Israel. And has given back land that it won in war against those countries in exchange for peace. But peace has to be on the table. Hamas don’t want peace and nor does Hezbollah.

Emilesgran · 28/04/2026 11:42

Al Jazeera and the Irish Times - that’ll be a totally objective account of events in Syria. (Hint: there’s practically a civil war going on there still, with the government murdering civilians in many areas. Israel has been asked by Israeli Druze to help the Syrian Druze from being murdered by the regime as Christians, Alawites and other minorities are in various regions in Syria)

What about Egypt or Jordan? Has Israel attacked them?

Egypt and Jordan wanted peace with Israel and achieved it. Good for them.

Not only that, but Israel, after defeating them in war, gave them back land that Israel had conquered in exchange for peace. Basically all Israel demanded of Egypt and Jordan in return was not to be attacked again.

Hardly the actions of a determined warmonger and landgrabber.

Let’s not sanction Israel because they haven’t attacked Jordan or Egypt!

Should we lift sanctions on Russia because they haven’t attacked Poland or China?

Jordan and Egypt along with others attacked Israel after its formation. They then made peace when Israel defeated them, therefore its relevant. The point is, they made peace and have moved forward accepting Israel. Others choose to keep attacking rather than peace.

There are so many threads on this board discussing who Israel attacked or didn’t and why. I suggest you engage with them if you don’t want to address the OP’s point.

With recent reports about the extent of the sexual violence towards Palestinians in detention it isn't really surprising that Israel want to escalate from raping people to killing them is it? Palestinians are not being treated as humans by the IDF by any stretch of the imagination, it's difficult to see that there will be much objection to this when there has been very little objection to Palestinian people being subjected extreme sexual violence.
