Reconstruction of Gaza - realistic?

I think the problem with the below is the mammoth coast and the problem of who pays. To build a city of the size of Birmingham from scratch including public infrastructure to a sufficient standard using non slave Labour is going to be astronomical. Who pays? All the Arab states (although some with concentrated extreme wealth) have their own domestic pressures without stumping up hundreds of billions to produce a new sixth state. There could be international loans but that would bring into question Gazan public debt and how loans could be repaid.

There is also the thorny question about how Gazans go about establishing legal ownership of land or whether they need to buy it again. It seems like a conveyincing nightmare. One solution would be to build identical properties and allocate them the to the populace as a whole but would Gazans want this form of communism in terms of property? If you do have a housing market how do establish a realistic economy to support it?

International aid is extremely stressed and certainly as a UK tax payer I would hope we wouldn't get to involved and as Gazan reconstruction is talked about we should be conscious of the levels of poverty in other regions of the world.

Nobody cares about the people of Gaza, not Hamas, not the supposedly pro-Pal campaigners, not their supposed allies in the rest of the world. Or all efforts would go into disarming and getting rid of Hamas.and other terrorist groups there. Criticising Israel is so much easier than doing something constructive.

@SharonElliswell said. My thoughts exactly.

@SharonEllis It's 100% clear now, if it wasn't before to some people, that Hamas do not care about the lives of the people of Gaza. They are a hinderance to rebuilding Gaza and their refusal to surrender or disarm just hurts the people of Gaza every day.

Why there isn't much criticism of them on this board (apart from that coming from the pro Israel people) is a puzzle that I can't solve. Because I think some of the pro Pals on here do genuinely care about Gazans, yet they consistently and reliably leave Hamas out of the equation when discussing issues in Gaza.

It's a conundrum. But the reconstruction of Gaza will be based on economics not fuzzy thinking about how Hamas can't be held accountable. Economic decisions will be based on logic not emotions, which is why no country will invest money into parts of Gaza that are still being run by terrorists.

Exactly right. Follow the money.

Relating to the above, Ynet reported yesterday that, a pilot project known as “Green Rafah” is expected to move forward. The plan involves constructing facilities in an area to which Gaza residents would be allowed to return on the Israeli side of the so-called yellow line only after undergoing security screening.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and other Likud ministers oppose the move, arguing it violates the principle of “no rehabilitation before disarmament.”

However, the pilot reflects a commitment Israel made to the United States several weeks ago in discussions between Netanyahu, his close associate Ron Dermer and the U.S. administration, particularly ahead of Netanyahu’s visit to Trump’s Florida estate. Domestic political pressure in Israel has so far failed to halt the plan.

Israeli officials are now asking the Americans to uphold the principle of “rehabilitation in exchange for disarmament” by first disarming an additional area of Gaza not under Israeli control, similar in size to the planned Green Rafah zone, so the situation in southern Gaza would remain balanced.

Some ministers fear the United States will push for rehabilitation and disarmament simultaneously in stages, disarming a small area while rebuilding it at the same time.

This

If Hamas gave a shit about the people they'd lay down arms so it could be rebuilt. I think they'd prefer to continue fighting, with people becoming 'martyrs' as long as they can hate Jewish people.
