A mild, late, spineless stand. But a stand. It makes me wonder how much longer this can go on before governments realise people are fed up of this.

Palestine Action - the pensioner Intifada.

Unfortunately a lot of people are very naive I think. But some are way more cynical than us and they are the ones using emotive language relentlessly.

Disgusting.

It’s not manipulation when these are documented, verifiable human tragedies- it’s reality. And cynicism doesn’t make the suffering any less real.

It also highlights how some people conflate humanitarian outrage with political agendas, rather than seeing the real, documented suffering on the ground.

Do you really think 18,000+ children needed to be killed? Do you think nearly 2 million civilians need to be starved?

This reminds me of the line in the Godfather, when Kate says "Presidents don't around having people killed". Ms Munroe says hello. So naive.

Thank goodness none of us will ever have to spend nigh on two years, being imprisoned in a tunnel, being forced to dig our own grave. I suppose it's easy to be blasé about the hostages' plight and talk about it being boring or insignificant, when you aren't in their shoes.

Thank goodness none of us will ever have to spend nearly two years being bombed with the equivalent of 8 Hiroshima bombs, with food and aid weaponised against us, hospitals, schools, and ambulances destroyed, hundreds of journalists killed, and entire families wiped off the registry. In Gaza, 37.7% of the population of children has been killed- compare that to 0.3% in Ukraine.

As long as the hostages exist inside Gaza, Israel can justify even more death and destruction. They’re actually incentivised not to bring their hostages back because then Netanyahu would lose power. Release the hostages is not a good faith argument, it’s a classic Israeli talking point to shift the blame to Palestinians and ignore the fact that Israel has had plenty of chances to get their hostages back without committing genocide.

Call it naive if you like, but the facts are brutal: 18,000+ children dead, nearly 2 million civilians starving, hospitals and schools destroyed. This isn’t political theatre, it’s documented human suffering. Reality doesn’t care about your cynicism.

A bit crass, comparing the two situations for one upmanship. I did predict it, though.

If you’re going to exploit the plight of the hostages to make a point, don’t be surprised when people come back to you.

You do seem to be able to predict everything though, so can I have the Euromillions numbers for tomorrow night please?

I’m not trying to compare suffering or score points. I’m using the Ukraine figure purely to give context for the scale of child deaths in Gaza- it’s about illustrating how extreme this crisis is, not about minimising other conflicts.

I’m certainly not the one being crass here.

Prediction is easy, when you're going by past posts.

What are you even on about? Releasing the hostages is not an attempt to shift the blame onto Palestinians because they didn’t take the hostages or have the power to release them.

The blame for the hostages lies with Hamas! It’s a manipulation of the truth to suggest otherwise.

Oh really? I didn’t know that apart from you mentioning it over & over again on almost every post you make. We know these facts but there are other facts you don’t want to talk about like the massacre on 7/10 or the sexual violence used against women by Hamas. Why the reluctance to mention facts relating to Hamas?

The facts are brutal I agree.

-13,000 child admitted due acute malnutrition in July (I am sure they didn't all have underlying conditions)
-diseases such as meningitis, waterborne infections etc are rampant
-rats mosquito and cockroach in tents
-numerous skin and bacterial infections with no treatment available.

-older people being left to die slowly as they have no medications for illnesses like blood pressure etc

Amnesty accuses Israel of deliberately starving Palestinians as mass anti-war protests hit Tel Aviv

The NGO called on the Irish government to respond ‘with determination and courage’ to the crisis in Gaza.

So why are ordinary Palestinians being subjected to starvation and bombardment at a scale far beyond anything needed to address hostages?

Complete rubbish. The only way the hostages could possibly have been released by now is if Netanyahu had agreed that Hamas could stay in Gaza.

What would be the point if they could just take more hostages in future?

Kakeandkake · 18/08/2025 10:50

Dangermoo · 18/08/2025 10:46

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

Its true. Netanyahu has a choice between releasing the hostages or continuing a war which his political survival relies on. It's a no brainer which one he has chosen.

Yes - it’s turning into Groundhog Day again with people saying the same things that have already been debated. And answering posts with comments that are nothing to do with the points raised… so boring & tedious.

3,2,1… are you saying Palestinians dying is boring!

Why would they release the hostages when Netanyahu is going to eradicate the Palestinian people one way or another?

Asking a new question instead of answering mine about what would be the point in Israel getting the hostages back if Hamas are allowed to remain in Gaza to take more hostages in future?

Even the former head of Intelligence pretty much said that destroying Palestinians was the aim .

For everything that happened on October 7, for every one person on October 7, 50 Palestinians must die,” said Israel Defense Force’s (IDF) Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva in the recordings released by Israel’s Channel 12 news on Friday. “It doesn’t matter now if they are children.”

“The fact that there are already 50,000 dead in Gaza is necessary and required for future generations,” Haliva said in the recordings
.
“There is no choice — every now and then, they need a Nakba in order to feel the price,”

In leaked audio recordings, the former head of Israeli military intelligence can be heard saying that the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza is “necessary and required for future generations.”
