A mild, late, spineless stand. But a stand. It makes me wonder how much longer this can go on before governments realise people are fed up of this.

If you take offense at the phrase "Stop Killing Children" its probably guilt.

Edited

Guilt for what? Ridiculous suggestion and that's exactly the hyperbole, I refer to.

Gloriia · 17/08/2025 13:31

And if you don't care that this stupid footie organisation didn't have a banner saying 'free the hostages' it is probably because you aren't bothered about the starving, tortured hostages right?

Touché.

Course it wasn't directed at Spurs 🙄

It wasn’t. My god, Israel isn’t the centre of the universe!!!! UEFA were coming under fire because perhaps the most famous footballer in the league called them out. It’s that simple.

Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Palestine and Ukraine

Children from all these countries sat in front of the banner.

But no threads about them..

I feel like you’re just intent on ignoring the context of what happened and why uefa made this statement at this time. Fine if you want to live in this little echo chamber

It shouldn't be that simple they should read up on the conflict instead of releasing one sided 'banners' because some over privileged footballer told them off publicly.

So you admit Israel is the side that’s killing children and therefore the target of the banner? Got there in the end!

Trying so hard to project your point of view onto others and yet not succeeding.

Most famous footballer in the world! As if. Spurs is represented by a large Jewish fan base. That's why I KNOW why this was pre-ordained.

ETA: my mistake - league, not world.

Mo Salah is the face of the premier league, like it or not. The fact he’s speaking out for Palestine is an added bonus.

No but we know they were pressured by salah who obviously thinks that. It's really not a gotcha moment.

They've jusy made tits of themselves really. But as we've said what can you expect from a football organisation.

If you really think a statement saying “stop killing children” and “stop killing civilians” is a targeted harassment of Israel, maybe look at why you think that way?

'Face of Premier league' Grin. Be nice if he spoke out for the hostages too, you know using his Premier league face?

He doesn’t have to speak out. Minimising his accomplishments because you don’t like his stance on this is quite strange though

I look at it that way because saleh has told them what to say? It isn't rocket science as you've just said his Premier league face has spoken out for gaza so think we can work out where it came from.

Salah did not tell them what to say at all. UEFA posted an absurdly pathetic tweet saying “farewell”. No mention of the fact he was shot dead while getting aid. Salah said “can you tell us how he died, where and why?”. That’s all. No mention of Israel killing children or civilians.

What? You've just said it's a good thing he speaks out? - 'The fact he’s speaking out for Palestine is an added bonus'. Which is it?

The question is why did he selectively speak out? We know you think the hostages are irrelevant and maybe he does too but most people don't.

He's of absolutely no significance to me. For one thing, I can't stand the club he plays for and another - he is not God. I think you will find that was Pele.

Shame he can't speak out to call for his fellow Egyptians to open their border. When I said that before, I was told why should he?!

Does uefa usually provide cause of death, location and background to tragic deaths? I thought that was a coroner's role?

MyNameIsX · 17/08/2025 15:23

And yet there is never any criticism of how the various Arab states treat the Palestinians.

Funny that.

“Farewell” is about as bland as you can get when someone has been murdered.

'Bland'?

“Farewell to Suleiman al-Obaid, the 'Palestinian Pele'. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of time"

More than just farewell? Granted they didn't list the cause of death but that is normal.

He was murdered while trying to get aid. You don’t see why that’s not an important thing to say?
