A mild, late, spineless stand. But a stand. It makes me wonder how much longer this can go on before governments realise people are fed up of this.

Qatar control UEFA

Qatar also own Paris Saint-Germain - the other team in the match against Tottenham;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Saint-Germain_FC_ownership_and_finances

It was all actually a very big conspiracy so that PSG won the meaningless trophy

Would it possibly be the most harmonious board in MN history?🤔

Think it would be! Even the Style & Beauty board gets heated when someone asks for expensive handbag recommendations.

Maybe they should introduce it for a bit of peace on here for a while!

True. I miss that board.

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of it doubly being an inappropriate match to choose from a political point of view.

It was nothing to do with who was playing.

UEFA were called out for their absolutely piss poor messaging on the death of the player. They chose their next match (as the next international break isn’t until September, and the club competitions haven’t truly started yet), to use to attempt to rescue some shred of dignity. It was not targeted to Tottenham.

It was the first big game of the new season. Would seem odd to have don’t it at any other game.

Given that it was two European teams seems like the perfect time to say stop killing children and civilians. I saw it as a stand for wars everywhere not just the Middle East.

Even if you say the teams were an unfortunate coincidence - you have one team with historical links to the Jewish community in London, with a Jewish heritage owner and the other team owned by a Qatari government operated investment fund.

Not everything is a conspiracy. It was the first game of the season for uefa. They were called out by the biggest name in the premier league. They needed to take a stand. They did so.

Not everything is a conspiracy

I didn't suggest it was. Do you understand the meaning of 'unfortunate coincidence'?

Yet you keep pressing the issue? I also don’t see why you need to bring the Jewish link at Tottenham into it? Criticism of Israel is not antisemitism and plenty of Jews oppose what Israel is doing

Saddam Hussein broke TWO and war was triggered by America and Britain

Not that I agreed with the Iraq War but Tony Blair stated that Saddam Hussein had broken 18 UN Security Council Resolutions in the preceding years.

Rather I am replying to posts.

When you are done congratulating yourselves.

There is an unhealthy dose of anti-semitism in the ongoing criticism of Israel. At least people should try to be honest.

We all know it.

No.

Anti Zionism ≠ anti semitism. The two need to be distinguished because otherwise anti semitism is used to shut down every single discussion regarding the actions of Israel. As far as I have seen, nobody on this thread has made any anti semitic comments, nor have they used any anti semitic tropes. The commentary has been purely related to the actions of Israel.

Well you should be honest then why you have posted in support of Ukraine so you could make this point.

It is not anti semitic to criticize Israel for something you would criticize another country for .

Would I condemn Spain or France or my own country for behaving the same way Israel is currently. Absolutely I would.

What's anti Zionism?

And does telling a lie about a nation of people, then refusing to take it back when caught in a lie count as prejudice?

Being against the Zionist ideology of the current Israeli government.

Prejudice is not the same as anti semitism. You know that. The same thing happens with every conflict, and misinformation appears on both sides of every debate.

But like clockwork, the anti semitism accusations have started in order to shut down all conversation.

Zionism is the belief in the right of Jewish self determination in the land of Israel. It doesn't have to include oppressing others. It certainly doesn't have to include starving civilians and razing their homes in order to build more of your own. I would hope that most of us on here at least agree with the rights of Jewish people to have a homeland in Israel? Do you?

I actually don't know that. I think where people tell lies about one group in a public place, then refuse to walk it back when the untruth is pointed out- this implies a level of prejudice and hatred towards that group that amounts to racism. At least, that's always been my experience of it?

LifeOfAShowGirl · 17/08/2025 08:31

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one dairy, because I just can’t handle the constant going in circles and totally baseless accusations

Course it wasn't directed at Spurs 🙄

I think it's quite something, when non Jews try to explain what Zionism is. The response, to my question, was along the lines of what I thought it would be. The ignorance and inaccuracies of everything relating to this conflict, are self evident. Hence the hyperbolic clichés.

If you take offense at the phrase "Stop Killing Children" its probably guilt.

And if you don't care that this stupid footie organisation didn't have a banner saying 'free the hostages' it is probably because you aren't bothered about the starving, tortured hostages right?
