A mild, late, spineless stand. But a stand. It makes me wonder how much longer this can go on before governments realise people are fed up of this.

The 'court' of public opinion would horrify you in the real world. I'm not talking about pre generated tables, I'm talking about every day men and women, who don't agree that Israel are terrorists. I tell you what they do think. They are glad that Israel has got the balls to take on the real terrorists because they are keeping the wolves from the door. Islamic extremism - note extremism, note moderate - is a global threat. @Dangermoo

Interestingly, the "court of public opinion" does not regard Hamas as being terrorists. About 85 % of the worlds population live in countries where Hamas are not designated as being a terrorist organisation.

This isn’t that surprising, there are a lot places where extreme violence such as Hamas use is used too. I’m glad we do proscribe them.

EasternStandard · 15/08/2025 11:32

It also stops those who would want to support them from doing so on social media.

@Thegreyhound We weren't just talking about international law being broken though were we?

The exact accusation was No country has broken so many international laws apart from Israel.

No mention of a specific year in the UN's opinion ... no it was a blanket statement which @justanotherpassword has not come back to defend.

There’s little point in defending it. The stats speak for themselves and whatever media source or NGOs stats I quote I’ll be told it’s rubbish, they would say that. They are anti semetic, they don’t think Israel should exist or they are being paid by Qatar.

The list is endless and it gets exhausting.

Pointless to continue engaging with posters who are just flying the flag for Netenyah and think Israel can do no wrong. We will never see each other’s point and can’t even agree to disagree as the same posters start shouting down any meaningful discussion.

So do you think people should just be permitted to post distortions, misinformation and flat out lies, and not expect to be pulled up on it?

Then list off a whole sorry chorus of strawman arguments to distract away from being caught in a lie?

There are lots of people on this board with varying levels of knowledge about the situation, and when untrue things are posted it can affect how others build their own narratives. You may think that doesn't matter. I completely disagree. If you post an untruth that I see, I'm going to mention it.

No one knows which country has broken the most international laws ever.

Israel has broken the most UN resolutions. UN resolutions are not law.

Get it right, or risk it being drawn attention to.

And if you post an lie to make Israel look worse, then having been caught in that lie,

refuse to take it back, accusations of your prejudice against Israel are plausible.

In March, 2022, just after Russia started its offensive against Ukraine - I was particularly moved by the story of a little girl called Polina, who sadly lost her life, along with most of her family during a Russian attack. Almost 14,000 Ukrainian civilians have died since February 2022.

WHERE IS YOUR OUTRAGE FOR THEM? WHERE IS YOUR ANGER WITH PUTIN?

UEFA have famously banned Russia and ran MANY campaigns about supporting Ukraine. They still were when I went to an England match last year.

No - your outrage.

Dont bother answering - you’ve already spoken.

Utterly shameful.

I don’t quite know what you’re trying to get at here. This is a thread about UEFA, on a board about the Middle East.

Why do you think peopl are not outraged? Putin is generally despised. My country took in 107,000 Ukrainian refugees and have supported them in many ways .

Maybe there is no outrage because there is only one side to this and everyone in Western Europe is on the same side so it would be a bit of an echo chamber.

I really don’t know what this poster is trying to get at. Russia and Ukraine is not a divisive issue for about 97% of the western world. It’s only a few MAGA loonies who side with Russia.

Agree. It's a very different conflict.

I can't see Putin with widespread support on Mumsnet.

I genuinely think that outside of one ultra far right American sub Reddit I’ve never seen a positive word about him. Very bizarre thing to come on and say!

Very odd. We’d all just be agreeing with each about what an evil person Putin is.

There's a few regular posters on this board which seem to be fans. As well as the websites and social media accounts they post.

Would it possibly be the most harmonious board in MN history?🤔

Dangermoo
Qatar control UEFA

Qatar also own Paris Saint-Germain - the other team in the match against Tottenham;
