To think UN should now be in Gaza as a peacekeeping force

Seriously, when even the Daily Express are even calling mass forced starvation and putting pictures like this on their front pages.

Surely the UN could act as a peacekeeping force and stop this insanity?

Its obscene.

All their info comes from hamas and these people 'on the ground' like Dr maynard are now saying 'someone told me', so I'd take their 'independent verification' with a pinch of salt. Hospital records? Yep released from the hamas led health ministry. Newsflash terrorists make shit up.

I’ll ask again. You’ve discredited just about everyone: UN agencies, humanitarian workers, journalists, and even children’s medical photos, but then land on “I trust the IDF every time.”

I’m genuinely curious: if that’s the standard, what sources do you consider reliable?

caringcarer · 31/07/2025 11:33

Not UN but a peacekeeping force made up of exclusively Arab nations sending equal numbers of troops each. If hostage's are released and Hamas stood down a democratically newly elected government could be formed and a 2 state solution more realistic. As long as Hamas remain there will be war. Hamas steal the aid food meant for citizens for themselves. Letting babies starve.

Hamas are posing as aid workers to steal food.

The Broken Record Script

“Hamas could end this tomorrow.”
This ignores the reality that Israel has blocked multiple ceasefires, bombed aid convoys, and continued killing civilians even after hostages were released in November.

“Hamas hides among civilians.”
This is repeatedly used to justify mass civilian deaths. The Geneva Conventions make clear that this doesn’t remove the attacking army’s responsibility to protect civilians.

“It’s nothing like the Holocaust.”
No one’s saying it’s identical. The point is that trapping, starving, and bombing civilians in an enclosed area is reminiscent of state-led atrocities. That should disturb us.

“Hamas like seeing their people suffer.”
This is propaganda that dehumanises 2 million people. It strips them of agency, grief, and dignity and pretends Palestinian civilians don’t exist beyond Hamas.

Just to add to the point you made about the holocaust - the one major standout for me is that in this genocide, we are all witnessing it unfold in real time, on our screens. We have doctors and aid workers who have gone in there and come back out, after somehow managing to survive, tell us of all the atrocities they have witnessed. We have every major agnecy, from the U.N to the ICJ telling us this is a genocide.

I wasn't born when the holocaust occured. But I know that information was distributed differently back then, and there would have been people who genuinely didn't know what was unfolding.

Now, you can see it all, and it's horrific.

Hamas are posing as aid workers to steal food.

Can you provide a source for that claim?

Because even if some aid is diverted (and that happens in every war zone) it doesn’t explain why Israel is blocking or bombing trucks at the crossing, or why famine has spread to areas with no Hamas presence at all.

It's the only alleged 'genocide' where the attacking force warn the civilians ahead of any attacks. It is however a war zone where terrorists use civilians as human shields.

The malnutrition is of course a problem and hamas should assist their own people. They don't care though as they're terrorists.

Maybe someone said? A bit like someone told Dr Maynard the IDF were targeting testicles?

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 31/07/2025 13:13

You’re yet to provide us with any evidence of sources you do consider reliable @Gloriia - except the one party in the conflict.

You’ve discredited just about everyone: UN agencies, humanitarian workers, journalists, and even children’s medical photos, but then land on “I trust the IDF every time.”

In your eyes, every independent organisation is compromised, but a military force currently under ICJ investigation is your gold standard for truth?

What sources do you consider reliable?

That’s an extraordinary take. So we’re redefining genocide based on whether the perpetrators gave a warning first? The Genocide Convention doesn’t have a clause for “as long as they texted first.”

As for blaming Hamas for malnutrition- there are children starving in areas where Hamas isn’t even operational. Aid trucks have been bombed, blocked, and turned away. This is what happens when a siege strangles a population for months. It’s deliberate.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 31/07/2025 13:23

There are multiple public and leaked statements from Israeli officials that support the claim that aid obstruction has been part of an intentional strategy, not just the result of looting or Hamas interference.

Official Policy Declaration:
October 2023, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant announced a complete siege on Gaza:

“We are imposing a complete siege on Gaza. No electricity, no food, no water, no fuel. Everything is closed.”

This was a publicly declared policy of total deprivation.

Leaked Government Policy Document:
A policy paper from Israel’s Ministry of Intelligence (reported by Haaretz) explicitly recommended reducing humanitarian aid to the bare minimum needed to avoid international intervention- not to meet civilian needs. It proposed blocking water, fuel, and food, and encouraged population displacement into Egypt.

Leaked Broadcast:
“Starvation is a legitimate weapon”
In a leaked clip aired by Israel’s KAN public broadcaster, senior Israeli officials said:

“We will not allow aid into areas where hostages are not returned. Starvation is a legitimate form of pressure.”

This was part of an internal discussion on using food as leverage.

Yes. Yet the level of genocide denial on this entire thread by some posters is horrific and shameful.

Use of words like ‘alleged’ - it’s disgusting.

And on mumsnet in general.

Yet the French government have said the Gaza humanitarian foundation tasked with distributing aid have created a bloodbath and the IDF have shot another 100 people in the last 24 hours. Am assuming the French government are lying too and the only sources we should believe are Israel?

Also, the IDF certainly aren’t “warning” the kids scrabbling in the dirt at the food distribution points that they are about to attack them.

'You’ve discredited just about everyone: UN agencies, humanitarian workers, journalists, and even children’s medical photos'

The NYT discredited themselves regarding the picture they published. They admitted they hadn't been given the full story by whomever had given them it.

Journalists like Bowen need discrediting, he knows filming over war zones will not be permitted for strategic reasons yet he moaned on as if the IDF were hiding something. What, a load of rubble? It's hardly a newsflash is it. I do wish the bbc would get him home and have someone sensible reporting.

It is being widely reported that aid has been sat there all along and the issue is with the UN and hamas. We've seen actual footage of it! Not some Dr saying 'someone told me..'

I've no idea why some of you just will not see that it suits hamas to make their own people suffer.

PaxAeterna · 31/07/2025 18:04

@Gloriia just out of interest, why do you think that international governments, even the US think that Israel needs to do more to facilitate UN aid deliveries? Why do you think that nobody believes the Israeli government.

And yet all the adults holding these alleged starving dc all seem so very well fed. There doesn't seem to be any common sense 'journalism' reporting that these poor dc may well have have significant medical problems.

Israel should allow more news reporters into Palestine so people can judge for themselves. The world needs to see what is happening. However, we can only surmise that countries would not be dropping aid from the air if there wasn’t a crisis in that country.

They'd get abducted, held hostage and expect the IDF to rescue them. Terrorists are running the place.

Of course there is a crisis, it is a warzone and said terrorists will be loving it.

Awful footage of a hostage Rom Braslavski released by the terrorists.

I really hope he is ok/alive. So cruel to release this footage. I think we all know why it won't be news tomorrow😢
