To think UN should now be in Gaza as a peacekeeping force

Seriously, when even the Daily Express are even calling mass forced starvation and putting pictures like this on their front pages.

Surely the UN could act as a peacekeeping force and stop this insanity?

Its obscene.

No, it’s totally relevant here thanks.

How?

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 29/07/2025 16:47

All of my points have been consistently backed up with verified sources and solid evidence. It’s easy to throw around opinion, but I’m referencing credible reports, data, and firsthand accounts.

If you’re relying mainly on a few pro-Israel voices and opinion pieces, that’s your choice , but it doesn’t make those views inherently more reliable. Facts matter more than echo chambers!

Bonus category:

Oversimplification:
”Hamas just needs to release the hostages.”

Almost like there's a handbook with "model" techniques for deflection:

Another one: "What about Sudan, Yemen, Syria"

On Syria: Ask Netanyahu, he was happy to take credit for orchestrating the fall of Assad in December 2024.

The Druze will be fine in the end, they are excellent fighters who thankfully didn't give their weapons up to the former Al Qaeda "leader" of Syria.

I have used verified sources including United Nations reports and statements, World Food Programme updates, Médecins Sans Frontières medical and humanitarian reports, Human Rights Watch investigations, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights findings, official Palestinian Ministry of Health data cross-checked with other sources, International Committee of the Red Cross reports, verified eyewitness accounts from aid workers on the ground, and reputable international news organizations such as Al Jazeera, BBC, and Reuters.

You appear to have just referenced opinions and reports from pro-Israel commentators and publications.

On Lebanon being destabilised in the 1960s Moshe Sharetts diaries shed more light on Israeli machinations:

"The February 27, 1954 meeting among Ben Gurion, Sharett, Lavon and Dayan has already been mentioned in connection with Israel's invasion plans of Egypt and Syria. In that same meeting a concrete proposal was outlined to disrupt Israel's most peaceful neighbor at that time, Lebanon. In this case, Israel's hegemonic ambitions did not even pretend to wear the phony fig leaf of security or defense.

"Then he [Ben Gurion] passed on to another issue. This is the time, he said, to push Lebanon, that is, the Maronites in that country, to proclaim a Christian State. I said that this was nonsense. The Maronites are divided. The partisans of Christian separatism are weak and will dare do nothing. A Christian Lebanon would mean their giving up Tyre, Tripoli, the Beka'a. There is no force that could bring Lebanon back to its pre-World War I dimensions, and all the more so because in that case it would lose its economic raison-d'etre. Ben Gurion reacted furiously. He began to enumerate the historical justification for a restricted Christian Lebanon."

Allow the aid agencies to do their jobs and get food to the 2 million people being starved in the first instance.

Hamas ambush the air trucks and steal the food.

caringcarer · 29/07/2025 17:38

Hamas ambush the air trucks and steal the food.

UN agencies, including OCHA and WFP, have consistently reported that aid is being obstructed due to Israeli restrictions, dangerous conditions created by ongoing military operations, and targeted attacks on convoys.

The vast majority of delays, according to UN and independent reports, are due to arbitrary inspection delays, rejected items, and a collapse in distribution capacity inside Gaza because of fuel shortages, destroyed infrastructure, and the breakdown of civil order- all consequences of the siege and bombardment.

ArtfulGoldWriter · 30/07/2025 05:06

Just wanted to come on here and add that it’s a tiny step in the right direction that Starmer will recognise the Palestinian state but his use of language to describe it like a threat against Israel is a fucking disgrace.

It should happen because it’s been morally the right thing to do for many years - not to stop Israel starving a population.

A memory came up on my Facebook today from 2014 where I had shared a ‘stop bombing children in Gaza’ meme from Save the children then. It’s a disgrace that the blockade and bombing has been happening for so many years.

OP posts:

This is right from Starmer but it should have happened a long time ago.

We are also seeing images of hamas stuffing their faces in the tunnels. The problem is hamas, always hamas.

Some organisations are perpetuating the starvation myth by circulating pictures of dc with obvious genetic malformations and apparent chronic medical conditions whilst their well fed parents offer them up for exploitation.

No the problem is the supporters of this war and the loss of common humanity.

This war is definitely a good example of psychological warfare. It will probably be studied fpr a long time.

I know some israeli people. I was talking to them about the situation

They are absolutely convinced of the following

Israel are the good guys.
Hamas caused the current problem.
Israel are defending themselves. That they Need to fight back to protect their country
The news about starving children is fake.
The pictures are faked..

They are one hundred percent convinced of the above.

If you talk to Anyone non- israeli most of them are convinced that israel are causing a genocide and famine and that the IDF are evil.

Both sodes are convinced. It shows how affective propoganda is and how difficult it is to discern the truth.

I nearly don't know what to believe anymore.

I believe the verified reports from UN agencies, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty, and respected journalists who’ve risked their lives to report from Gaza.

This isn’t just a case of “two sides disagreeing”- there’s overwhelming, independently verified evidence of mass civilian suffering. Over 14,000 children have been killed, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, and those figures are cited by Save the Children and the UN. UNICEF has called Gaza the most dangerous place in the world to be a child. The UN and WFP have confirmed famine conditions, with acute malnutrition in 1 in 5 children in the north. The WHO and UNOSAT report that over 70% of homes and most hospitals have been destroyed. At least 100 journalists have been killed, more than in any conflict on record. UN agencies and aid workers have repeatedly confirmed that Israel has blocked or delayed aid into Gaza.

The International Court of Justice even ruled there’s a plausible case for genocide. It’s hard to face, but the evidence is there. This isn’t equal propaganda; it’s a humanitarian catastrophe being documented in real time.

The problem is a lot of the sources aren't reliable we've had this Aguilera bloke quoted who apparently has an axe to grind, ditto Dr maynard with his 'I saw no no actually someone told me' testimony. We had the NYT with pics of an exploited child with serious medical problems not starvation which was very quietly amended.

We have see the footage of supplies on the gazan side, we know the un are useless. We know it suits terrorists to make their own people suffer and blame Israel.

The whole thing is a disaster but who do I believe between terrorists and the IDF? Idf every time.

It’s really not two sided propaganda or a war of words - one side has 60,000+ dead, thousands of children missing limbs, babies starving from malnutrition. It is verified by ALL the human rights agencies in the region, by hundreds of international doctors and journalists, there is countless verified footage on a daily basis.

Sky news said they were not allowed to film when they went on an aid air drop but all they could see below was grey rubble - they said it was all destroyed. It is not a schoolyard “he said/she said” there are countless human lives destroyed and children, aid workers, doctors, journalists dead or reduced to walking corpses.

The famine, the child amputees, the murdered Palestinians are not debatable, this is all well established as fact. It makes me think of holocaust deniers - everyone knows the holocaust happened, it is undeniable and was 100% genocide, but there were some ridiculous individuals who questioned whether it was real. History does not remember them kindly.

All hamas have do is surrender, release hostages and agree to peace talks. Why won't they do you reckon? Might it be that they're enjoying it all?

There have been civilian casualties because hamas hide among them/are them.

It is nothing like the holocaust. I don't believe those in concentration camps had weapons and were attacking their neighbours do you?!

To even compare this conflict to the holocaust is appalling. The aid is there, hamas seem to like to see their people suffer.

"there’s overwhelming, independently verified evidence of mass civilian suffering"

Where?

What links?

You’re asking where the overwhelming, independently verified evidence of mass civilian suffering is?

Here’s a short, non-exhaustive list from respected, independent sources- all of which have documented mass civilian harm, starvation, displacement, and the collapse of healthcare in Gaza:

  1. UN OCHA (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs)
Daily and weekly situation reports detailing the catastrophic humanitarian situation.
  1. World Food Programme (WFP)
Has declared that parts of Gaza are in famine-like conditions.
  1. WHO (World Health Organization)
Repeated warnings that the health system in Gaza has “collapsed,” with people dying from preventable disease, malnutrition, and lack of care.
  1. UNICEF
Reports on the extreme toll on children — thousands killed, many starving, and almost every child in Gaza needing mental health support.
  1. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch
Both have documented what they describe as “collective punishment,” unlawful attacks, and violations of international humanitarian law.
  1. Independent Journalists
Outlets like The Guardian, AP, Reuters, Al Jazeera, BBC, and +972 Magazine have reported extensively from the ground — often at great personal risk.

And just to add- I’ve seen enough footage and photographic evidence with my own eyes to disturb me for life, and to make it painfully clear that this has gone far beyond any proportional response.

If you’re genuinely unfamiliar with this material, I encourage you to take the time to read. If you’re asking rhetorically to discredit or derail, that’s transparent- and beneath the level of this discussion.

The Broken Record Script

“Hamas could end this tomorrow.”
This ignores the reality that Israel has blocked multiple ceasefires, bombed aid convoys, and continued killing civilians even after hostages were released in November.

“Hamas hides among civilians.”
This is repeatedly used to justify mass civilian deaths. The Geneva Conventions make clear that this doesn’t remove the attacking army’s responsibility to protect civilians.

“It’s nothing like the Holocaust.”
No one’s saying it’s identical. The point is that trapping, starving, and bombing civilians in an enclosed area is reminiscent of state-led atrocities. That should disturb us.

“Hamas like seeing their people suffer.”
This is propaganda that dehumanises 2 million people. It strips them of agency, grief, and dignity and pretends Palestinian civilians don’t exist beyond Hamas.

You’ve dismissed every source of civilian suffering as “Hamas propaganda” without offering a single piece of evidence to support that claim.

Where are your links @Gloriia ? What’s your source for the claim that UN agencies, aid organisations, and independent observers are just “quoting Hamas ministries”? Because that’s a serious accusation and you’ve provided nothing to back it up.
