To think UN should now be in Gaza as a peacekeeping force

Seriously, when even the Daily Express are even calling mass forced starvation and putting pictures like this on their front pages.

Surely the UN could act as a peacekeeping force and stop this insanity?

Its obscene.

'They are terrorists, they don't follow the rules. The problem is hamas'
'No they don't follow the rules and yes they are part of the problem but they are not starving the civilian population'

It is in hamas' interests to make gazans suffer as proven by all the horror over some of the fake pictures. It is not in the IDFs interests to have celebs and free palestiners blame them.

The IDF warned civilians of attacks, it would be a serious about turn to now be trying to starve then.

Hamas are the problem, let's see that on placards next time there's a rally in Brighton.

Interesting opinions but that's all they are because you've not backed up any of your claims with any evidence.

Dontthink · 28/07/2025 15:45

How would that explain 1000+ people being killed whilst queuing for aid like they’re in Squid games. They were not shot by Hamas.

There was even a women and children’s only day and they still killed people.

Gloriia · 28/07/2025 14:36

I believe there is malnutrition and great suffering in gaza caused by the inactions and incompetence of the un with the complicity of hamas yes.

It is common in a warzone, although usually the elected leaders don't want their people to suffer, sadly with a terrorist organisation they could not care less and it's all about the propaganda and the media brainwashing.

You haven’t used the word starvation (other than when you used the phrase “the starvation myth” about Gaza) and instead you keep using alternatives like malnourishment and suffering.

I don’t believe you believe people are starving to death in Gaza. I don’t know why you won’t just openly admit that you don’t believe it, rather than using alternative wording, but it’s your prerogative to answer in the way you have done obviously.

No-one has evidence, we are all going by individual testimonies. For example, some believe Maynard's claims that IDF soldiers are targeting testicles for some reason, I on the other hand believe others that it is more likely that terrorists are carrying out atrocities.

Some of us think the UN are useless, others think the IDF are murdering people after spending the last nearly 2 years warning civilians of imminent attacks but they've apparently now changed tack!

It is a complex, horrific situation. Hamas need to surrender, release the hostages and allow peace talks to start. Whilst they're running the show their people will continue to suffer sadly.

I don’t think anyone has suggested that the IDF haven’t murdered people for two years and have just ‘changed tack’ and started to do so @Gloriia

That’s not true actually. It is really difficult to try and verify information from Gaza as let’s face it, the IDF lie, the Israeli government lie and Hamas lie but it is possible.

Even with the women killed at the women’s only aid distribution day. The IDF said that they fired warning shots at a crowd but were not aware of any casualties. Individuals said they were shot at and people said that their loved ones were killed. The hospital confirmed they treated casualties. The BBC was able to verify that the location the IDF said they fired warning shots was the same location that people said that people were killed at. so that is evidence, more than individual reports.

Gloriia · 28/07/2025 18:20

'I don’t think anyone has suggested that the IDF haven’t murdered people for two years and have just ‘changed tack’ and started to do so'

It's a war, sadly there'll be civilian casualties particularly as hamas hide among them, under schools and under hospitals etc.

To warn civilians of planned military attacks doesn't sound like the kind of people who would then purposefully withhold food so civilians suffered. Terrorists on the other hand.,.

Clavinova · 28/07/2025 18:32

I noticed that Prof Maynard was a little more cautious about several of his claims in an article he wrote for the Guardian. In his interview he said that he himself had also noticed a pattern of injuries - in his article he only says that his colleagues in the emergency room had noticed a disturbing pattern.

Similarly, in the interview he said that some of his patients had been shot by quadcopters (sniper drones) but in the article he added, "according to the people who brought them in."

I wondered whether he was being more cautious himself or whether the Guardian had asked him to make some changes. Certainly, there is no verified evidence (yet) that Israel are using sniper drones.

Ah yes that is a bit of a backtrack from 'I witnessed to 'someone said'.

We are also seeing images of hamas stuffing their faces in the tunnels. The problem is hamas, always hamas.

Some organisations are perpetuating the starvation myth by circulating pictures of dc with obvious genetic malformations and apparent chronic medical conditions whilst their well fed parents offer them up for exploitation.

Do you think British Dr Nick Maynard and others are lying when they say there is mass starvation in Gaza and people going to get food are indiscriminately shot?

I think there's mass hunger in Gaza but I'm not sure to what degree because there's no definitive data. Certainly there's considerable suffering for which a wide range of evidence has been provided and documented.

I think some people are being shot but I'm not clear on by whom as there's no definitive evidence.

I think Nick Maynard is an anti Israel activist. I think he shares prolific antisemites on social media which i find disturbing. And I've certainly seen at least one obviously false post from him, so I consider him a completely unreliable source.

mids2019 · 29/07/2025 07:05

Even if the aid into Gaza is increased massively this will not be celebrated by many on these threads as the whole point is to look at any contentious area of Israeli military action to help the Palestinian cause which includes its goals for the erasure of Israel.

There will be more food but as Hamas (and certain members of the western press) have hit on this particularly provocative area of starvation as a means to alter opinion do you think they will give this up? I am sure those that support Palestine will be looking to any story which indeed malnutrition as it seems to be the story that has hit Israel from a repitational point of view. I for one think we shouldn't be naive about this.

I’ve become very aware of this point. Started a thread about more aid being distributed now because of the air drops and - more significantly- the humanitarian pauses in fighting so aid can be delivered safely and it’s only getting negative comments. I’m so naive I actually thought all the people talking about malnourished Palestinians would be happy to hear more aid is being delivered into Gaza.

Well as a pp pointed out he has changed his testimony from 'I saw' to 'someone told me' so I think we have to take anything else he has to say with caution.

There are obviously shortages as sadly happens in a war zone.

Yes his X posts are so obviously biased I think he is even wearing a keffiyeh in one presentation. No mention of freeing hostages or getting rid of hamas. Funny that.

He hasn't changed his testimony at all. He's talking about what he and his colleagues are witnessing in their emergency department.

someone told me
no what he said was My colleagues in the emergency department have also reported - very different one implies a random conversation with someone the other is medical professionals reporting on the cases they are dealing with.

piece on this from Guardian:

I have operated on boys aged 12 to 15, whose relatives say they were shot while trying to get food for their families. Last week a 12-year-old died on the operating table, shot through the abdomen at what can only be described as a death trap for those seeking basic sustenance.
My colleagues in the emergency department have also reported a disturbing pattern: injuries concentrated on specific body parts on different days – heads, legs, genitals – suggesting deliberate targeting of those body parts.

Yes I said 'someone told me'. Not quite 'I saw' is it.

No mention of what an awful state the hostages must be in? No mention of evil hamas?

These westerners with their keffiyehs should realise to be credible they must at least pretend to offer a bit of balance or else it looks like they have an agenda.

You are misrepresenting the views expressed completely here. Of course people are happy that aid is being delivered but it also needs to be done right. As was pointed out to you what is being proposed is like putting a band aid on a bullet wound it will not help the starving or vulnerable who are too weak to go to any aid drop and it can be dangerous for people on the ground collecting this aid. It is a not a solution at this stage, the situation is too advanced.

Would he have seen the hostages to report on how they look?
Why would he be mentioning evil Hamas he is reporting on what he is seeing from a hospital that is his area of expertise, he is not a journalist.

It’s not just about the aid drops though is it? That’s just one thing - which yes, has issues & isn’t enough but is still a positive thing overall.

Its also about the aid corridors and more aid coming into Gaza by lorry from places like Egypt & Jordan.
