Israels plan for Gazas future

MixedMetals · 07/07/2025 22:40

Defense Minister Israel Katz said Monday that he has instructed the IDF to prepare a plan to establish a "humanitarian city" on the ruins of Rafah, which would eventually house the entire population of the Gaza Strip.

According to Katz, the plan involves moving 600,000 Palestinians, primarily from the al-Muwasi area, into the new zone after security screening. Once inside, residents would not be allowed to leave, the defense minister said.

Katz added that, if conditions permit, construction of the "city" would begin during the 60-day Israel-Hamas cease-fire currently under negotiation.

Except when it comes to things like toddlers being massacred. Then you just repeat propaganda.

I can't say I've ever seen claims like 40 beheaded babies, babies hung on washing lines(?), babies in ovens and babies being cut out of pregnant women either. This conflict really started off with a bang with the fake news didn't it.

I've never said any of those things, thanks.

This is such a profoundly disgusting post.

Explain why? None of those stories are real, they were all made up. Why are you allowed to make little jokes or what ever it is you are trying to do about 'facts' but at the same time you object to people pointing out the horrendous, disgusting propaganda that was pushed at the beginning of this conflict. It got to the point that the president of the US stood up on stage and repeated it, that's beyond disturbing no? If Starmer stood up on stage and said that the IDF had beheaded 40 babies I bet you would have lots to say.

The UN estimates that approximately 92 per cent of all residential buildings in Gaza – around 436,000 homes – have been damaged or destroyed since the start of the conflict.

This is from the UN website. Is the 60-69% referring to all buildings?

That's better @Whatsinanamehey more accurate reporting.

Of course some people don't consider the UN a particularly reliable source but that's a different issue.

You said that multiple toddlers had been stabbed to death in a kindergarten or playschool or somewhere. Something that was propaganda being spread at the beginning of this conflict. The rest was propaganda being spread by others including the president of the US.

None of us mentioned these stories so why are you trying to score points by repeating these horrific, disgusting stories?

We are not responsible for what Trump says, he's a lunatic.

Thanks for this. Is there a link to a publication for the criteria you mentioned such as scorch marks, etc.

What you said was way worse! Hamas did kill babies as you know, but no need to describe the made up torture type things you said.

Plus @ForgesOfEmpires already apologised for getting something wrong. You quite deliberately repeated the most horrific propaganda you know to be untrue.

And the last data collected in this analysis was July 6th 2024. @ForgesOfEmpires do you think the data is the same as 12 months ago?

I doubt it. Just suits the narrative.

ForgesOfEmpires · 11/07/2025 22:13

veiledsentiments · 11/07/2025 21:44

No I don’t. But I don’t agree with much of the narrative that goes on this board either. And I’m sick to death of people thinking they know it all, throwing the same old shit out every day, and asking me to hold a mirror up to myself for self-reflection, or critical bloody thinking. I have a degree and two Masters. I am well able to do critical thinking and self-reflect.

Okay, but you just posted "90% of Gaza is demolished" when there's freely available information online that confirms its estimated ~66% of builds have been damaged and ~30% of those are demolished.

So it's not true that 90% of Gaza is demolished, the true data estimates approximately 19% of all buildings in Gaza are estimated to be completely destroyed. Which is a massive difference isn't it?

Facts really do matter. People seem to be more interested in demonising than assessing the reality. They're trying IMO to take something bad and shape the narrative to make it sound worse.

The destruction is catastrophic. Increased massively by the fact Israel is trying to destroy a tunnel network longer than average cities metro as they go, in one of the most densely built up areas on earth, in which there's a vast number of booby traps set.

Compared with other brutal urban conflicts, in cities like Grozny 60–70% were demolished, in Mariupol 50–60%, in Dresden ~75% of the city centre, in Aleppo 33–40%. So it's bad, but 19% is starkly different from 90%.

If it's the worst war ever, why the need to always embellish? I've never seen that happen before with any conflict.

I was replying to this. Those stories were the beginning of that in this conflict wasn't it? Straight out of the gate Biden was standing on stage repeating dreadful 'embellished' stories. Social media and newspapers were awash with these stories that never happened from day dot.

Posters here still regularly repeat them, like the poster I was replying to did. The story of the toddlers killed in the playschool.

It's interesting that people suddenly learn to fact check when they don't like the information.

You're right that the specific UNOSAT report I shared is from September 2024, but it's still considered reliable because it contains the most detailed breakdown available.

Since then, several updates- including one in April 2025 -have confirmed that destruction has continued, especially in areas like Rafah but on a hugely smaller scale.

While newer data shows the overall percentage of damaged structures has risen slightly (to around 69% from 66%), the proportion of buildings that are completely destroyed remains broadly consistent, estimated at around 20%, which is only an imcrease of 0.2% from the full report.

So although the report is several months old, its key conclusions are still valid and in line with more recent assessments from the UN and other sources. It is also the source data used by UNRWA, so if you don't like my facts, perhaps you should discard theirs too.

But so are you. You have posted information just now which is outdated by a year. You posts things that suit your narrative. You now think Israel should have the right to defend itself from Hamas, because that’s what YOU now believe. Not everyone agrees with you, and you don’t seem to want to accept this. I am not doubting the veracity of the information in the report merely indicating that a report a year old measuring destruction in an ongoing conflict may not be the most accurate up to date information.
