Kneecap and now this.....There are some absolute fits playing at Glastonbury and I am sure there are some virtue signalling loons cheering this.

Hope turnpike throw the book at them.

Bobby Vylan of British duo Bob Vylan performs on the West Holts Stage

Police review footage of chants led by Glastonbury acts

The government condemned chants from rap duo Bob Vylan which were streamed live and called for "death" to the Israeli military.

Has it always been an anti semitic rally though? Those previous incarnations seem a lot less terrifying for one set of people.

Do you feel that there is a predominant naiveté driving much of the statements made? I can't always discern where it is being incredibly naive, devoid of all the facts on both sides, where it is a do gooding tendency. Then, when is it something else.

I don't believe we always know.

When I see usually older middle class people shouting passionately about free Palestine - I think they're clueless and naive. ( I am clueless and naive to alot too btw). I won't be protesting anywhere about this because of that.

These people are however potentially dangerous if their simplicity of thinking ( imo) carries weight and influence amongst masses.

Glastonbury festival organisers have finally apologised and we very much h hope the act will not be invited again. I partly think the Glastonbury organisers were very naive when promoting the festival as one for 'political acitivism'; it has come back to haunt them.
back in the real world there is speculation the 12 day war and its consequent ceasefire any !was to momentum in the Gaza ceasefire process.

Excellent post.

Glastonbury has always been a political festival. In 1981 it was called the Glastonbury CND festival and only became the Glastonbury Music and Arts festival in the 90s. The branding all over the stages is Greenpeace, Oxfam, Wateraid. There a huge areas of the site purely for activisim, Leftfield stage, the Greenpace field, Greenfutures and permaculture areas. Its only when Melvin Benn and the BBC came in to pay for the massive fence in 2000 to appease the local council and it become the polished music event that it is today.

It’s not meant to be a place of hate and incitement though. Emily Eavis has realised this and made a statement.

You think Israel just attacked Iran because it wanted a ceasefire in Gaza…?

Here we go again.

"virtue signalling"
"Lefties"
"Useful idiots"
"No critical thinking "
"Just go to Gaza "
Etc etc
(It's like a Daily Mail comment section around these threads)

Headline news will be an obscure band shouting death to a military that we have seen over the past 20 months kill and maim thousands of children.

Let's all talk about that and not the fact that an IDF member has said they have orders to shoot starving people trying to get aid

Oh it's much more important that we get all horrified and indignant about Palestinian flags than the 3 children and their parents who were sleeping in a tent Thursday night killed because the IDF landed an airstrike on them.
Where's the Daily Mail headline here?

If words hurt so much why are we not discussing Ben Gvir saying 3 days ago that all aid should be stopped to Gaza condemning millions to death.

Is thousands of Israelis shouting "Death to Arabs" on the 26th May an issue or is it only an issue when it's a band saying things.

But yes let's all talk about a music band.

Edited

What would you say about a music band shouting death to Islam?
Would you you be so nonchalant about the hurty words?

Yes I was happy to see the apology:

Anti-IDF chants at Glastonbury "crossed the line," the festival's organiser has said.

Emily Eavis said she was "appalled" by the statements made by Bob Vylan on the West Holts stage yesterday.

Eavis said: "Their chants very much crossed a line and we are urgently reminding everyone involved in the production of the Festival that there is no place at Glastonbury for antisemitism, hate speech or incitement to violence."

So you want to be selective in how justice is applied.

Sorry where did I say that? As I said the law will do its job. Where am I being selective?

Good. Now those who posted people who didn’t want this can go elsewhere can take their own advice and find a festival which allows hate speech and incitement.

That’s like asking transwomen (men) to use mixed sex toilets / changing facilities. They’ve zero interest.

I'm prepared to be ripped a new one. I have tried to understand what I can regard this conflict.

My consistent feelings are ref public displays.....

  1. Shut the fuck up. People are being massacred on both sides, in hideous ways. I b elieve people on both sides are capable of depravity and given opportunity - many humans regardless of position - scarily, can and will do this.

So celebs etc - shut up. You don't understand it and what you're doing/ saying. I'm not so inclined to go along with ' baddy here and goody over there'.

However.....

2.The thought of a society led by Islam scares me. I am very much anti all religion to be clear. Right now, however, my focus is upon Islam. I don't like it. I don't want it dominating regions of the world that may and in any way then influence the society I want to be in.

I'm happy to discuss if I'm going to be censored on here for that. I will not happily accept any accusations of Islam phobia and removal of my post I will challenge.

I have no answer to all this at all either.

I can't edit for shit apologies.

That's fine, no idea what that has to do with this thread though? Not wanting innocent civilians killed doesn't mean you support an Islamic state.

An inconvenient bit of history, my dear friend.

The comments are interesting. History is a flexible beast dependent on perspective.

I'm very wary of groupthink, makes we want to turn around and see who's orchestrating it and what they're selling.

Of course it's got everything to do with this conflict. Look further back to find out why the post is relevant.

Martymcfly24 · 29/06/2025 08:47

I never said it was not worthy of comment.

The issue is when it becomes headline news instead of the 75 people that died in Gaza the other night .
The issue is once again when pro Israeli commentators denigrate people for standing up for Palestinians with the same tired insults . Just saw a post a second ago the "braying" crowd don't know what river and what sea
Again it is seen as supporting Palestinians is a trendy cause for those who lack critical thinking further dehumanizing the population and making light of the massive death toll.

I had literally people on here saying "I dont care what is happening in Sudan or elsewhere, I only FOLLOW this conflict" - come on, follow? as in what, a soap opera? For many, it sadly became similar to Che Guevara portrait - a symbol to virtue signal and demonstrate your "anti-establishment", so so edgy leftie views.

Not many people shouting these slogans are interested, or even give a fuck, about history, roots and complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (which is tragic and horrible on both sides). Its definitely nor a black and white issue to shout about while pissed at a music festival, and definitely not a vehicle for people to push forward their antisemitic or anti-Muslim views.

It was such a stupid argument anyway.

As if festival performers should be allowed to just say whatever they want no matter how offensive or obnoxious their words are & a reasonable response would be if you don't like it go elsewhere 🙄

Would anyone say that if a white performer was verbally abusing black people for example, no they wouldn't.

The answer very definitely wouldn't be if you don't like it go elsewhere.

I'm really cringing for those dopey people, who think like this. They then get offended when they are referred to as useful idiots, who play right into the hands of those who need a distraction - what a massive distraction it is, as well.

A BBC spokesperson said:

“Some of the comments made during Bob Vylan’s set were deeply offensive. During this live stream on iPlayer, which reflected what was happening on stage, a warning was issued on screen about the very strong and discriminatory language. We have no plans to make the performance available on demand.”

Kneecap and Bob Vylan comments are both being investigated by the Avon & Somerset police.

They have to be locked up and serving time for this, surely.

Two tier policing shouldn't exist.

greencartbluecart · 29/06/2025 12:06

If you don’t want any Islamic states or you want to ensure that your region doesn’t become one - you won’t achieve that through violence

violence radicalises people - a pacifist will turn to a terrorist once they have seen enough hurt

peace , love, respect , harmony - when that is achieved people become less keen to embrace more raidical movements.

so if you don’t want Islamic states to grow in strength and extremism stop the bloody war

or if you are so filled of hate - carry on but the hate will win and extremism and terrorism will grow

Yeah because 'verbally abusing' a foreign military is just like verbally abusing a black person. Now that you phrase it like that I totally see your point.

When this conflict is studied in years to come it won't be some ill advised chants about the IDF at a festival that people will focus on it will be their war crimes and murder of children. Hopefully it will be there to see in all its horrible glory.

I am Jewish, and I am scared. I’ve always been very integrated into wider society but I feel myself closing down through fear. I can make many points but I don’t think this is the forum for that discussion, but I can’t help wondering how many of these protesters said anything about what Russia has been doing. Is this all an excuse to express a hatred that has been under the surface for years?

Jeremy Corbyn has a lot to answer for.

As well as the Tories for so much irresponsible immigration over the last 14 years (and Labour the same).

No.
A true pacifist will always be a pacifist, this is why I question people who claim to be pacifists.

We will all fight for something, I'm interested in what you fight for and how you choose to do it.
