Kneecap and now this.....There are some absolute fits playing at Glastonbury and I am sure there are some virtue signalling loons cheering this.

Hope turnpike throw the book at them.

Police review footage of chants led by Glastonbury acts

The government condemned chants from rap duo Bob Vylan which were streamed live and called for "death" to the Israeli military.

You only have to read this thread to see that intimidation, extremism and racism occur on both sides. Many of the regular posters here have had multiple comments removed for breaking guidelines on other threads. These things should be carefully policed, but we shouldn't push to remove peaceful protests and free speech.

Denied support of Hezbelloh while yelling "Up Hezbollah, up Hamas”"...

Yes criminal charges have been dropped but no one can seriously think they don't support Hezbollah after the above comments made at a previous show.

I don’t think they ACTUALLY support Hamas etc.
I think they’re ignorant and think co opting terrorist paraphernalia looks cool .

Not that that ignorance is any defence in law .

Anyway - they’re either very dumb OR they are cynically exploiting the conflict for their own ends Or they are true terrorist supporters.

Well it helps to see the focus of your narrative and I'm sure it makes you feel like a good person, there are of course other differing experiential narratives woven into the picture which you may have discounted.
Peaceful, prosperous co-existence of nation states with moderate governance seems like a good end goal to me, I don't think that's possible with jihadists at the helm. As a socialist(?) you might appreciate the kibbutzim set-up more than some....or perhaps not. I'm sure you're appalled by the sequestering and misuse of aid wealth by hamas leadership, and their use of Gazans as cannon fodder.

I am indeed appalled by it. In fact, there are many many things I’m appalled by. Being appalled doesn’t have to be a singular activity. I was just responding to the question at hand. But I’m actively trying to productively help where I can.

I wonder what all the enviromentalists attending think of the enormous amount of helicopters. We seem to be on one of the flight paths and they’re coming over every few minutes.
On flight radar it looks like a helicopter training school.

Bit of an oxymoron in there.

Isn't it? Absolutely agree that most lefty pro Palestinians I know- basically my entire social circle, many of whom would be at Glastonbury, would definitely see themselves as anti racist in the Ibram X Kendi mould, yet dont see a lot of the virulent anti Israel stuff as racism. It's a blind spot.

A blind spot on here at times too.

I’m not sure I follow?
Being anti-Israel policy is a political stance against a state's actions, not a prejudice against a people.
Criticising Israel - like any government - for its policies or military conduct is fundamentally different from expressing hatred or discrimination toward Jewish people. Opposition to the actions of a state is not opposition to an ethnic or religious group.
Many Jewish people and organizations themselves - such as Jewish Voice for Peace, B’Tselem, and countless Israeli citizens oppose Israeli state policies. Criticising Israel is not inherently antisemitic, its a political and moral stance, often rooted in the very values of justice and equality that antisemitism violates.

I agree criticizing Israel isn't inherently anti semetic. But some of the criticism I hear most definitely is. I've heard many of my friends and people on here compare the idf to nazis for example. And theres not much willingness to ask why something is being called antisemitic and to try to understand why....
I appreciate your comment about anticolonialism though, that resonates with me.

Jewish voice for peace describes itself as anti-zionist, do they believe Israel should exist? Opinions seem to differ.

It is not inherently anti semitic. But it can be and often is antisemitic if it is framed in ways that exceptionalise Israel, hold Israel to different standards, use antisemitic tropes and if the only international issue you care about is Israel/Palestine, you need to ask yourself why. And if you are not antisemitic are you tapping into the activities, concerns and priorities of people that are?

Peaceful protests do not contain undercurrents of antisemitism. There was a Jewish poster, who recently shared her horrific experience of antisemitism from a break out group from the main protest. The amount of gaslighting she was subject to was disgraceful.

Pigeonpoohelp · 30/06/2025 10:51

It's also true that some people and the Israeli government will falsely weaponise anti-semitism to silence valid criticism. Maybe some of you should also question if you are falling into that trap?

Change the word antisemetism to any other 'ism' and tell me how that sounds...

Pigeonpoohelp · 30/06/2025 10:54

Too scared to call out the genocide Israel is carrying out because you might be falsely accused of anti-semitism. Too scared to call out war crimes the IDF soldiers commit because you might be falsely accused of anti-semitism. Too scared to stand up for the truth that Israel is a state led by a disgraceful abhorrent, wanted war criminal, because you might be falsely accused of anti-semitism.

The Israeli government called Starmer and Macron anti-semites when they criticised their conduct in Gaza. Do you think they are anti-semites? Or do you think the Israeli government is falsely weaponising anti-semitism to silence valid criticism?

I assume they are Hamas run. Or at least frequented by Hamas as they will be the only ones who can afford to pay

I've been accused of this. But when I ask for an example to be pointed out to me and explained its always... tumbleweed... could it be weaponising weaponising antisemitism?

You're not too scared though. There's been 18 months of doing exactly what you say you're scared of. After 18 months, you still don't understand that antisemitism is at the heart of the conflict - it's not a symptom, it's the root cause.

TinklySnail · 30/06/2025 11:00

It doesn’t, it’s a community kitchen cooking small amounts of food for the overwhelming majority of the population on Gaza who have been displaced and have no or limited access to food or cooking facilities.

Let’s stop spreading hateful propaganda.

Pigeonpoohelp · 30/06/2025 11:04

You can't silence the masses from speaking the truth they see. What they see is the Israeli government and the IDF meting out deadly revenge on the civilian population of Palestine for the crimes of Hamas. What they see is Palesinian children murdered daily by the IDF. What they see is a genocide carried out by the leaders of Israel.

You can not silence the people. People have and will continue to speak up.

Dangermoo · 30/06/2025 11:08

I'm glad you've referred to the masses. The rest of us will continue to speak up for the Jewish community.
