Why is Israel attacking Iran and vice versa?

Can anyone explain, simply and objectively, what is happening between Israel and Iran? It seems mad to me that Israel would take on another war right now!

But there's still no evidence that the IDF have killed 10 times as many civilians as Russia, plus the IDF claim that 20,000 of the 55,000 killed in Gaza are combatants. Also, what do you mean by armed combat? Tanks, artillery, rockets and missiles play a significant role in the fighting in Ukraine as they do in Gaza.
