Conflict in the Middle East

Yikes, Israel might have just attacked Iran!

This is NOT GOOD news!

Israel has declared a state of emergency, at least six explosions in Tehran.

This is seriously unfunny!

Israel has ZERO strategic depth - Iran has plenty. Nukes: see above, reverse!

You don’t really understand the concept of “allies” do you?

Or 'started it' for that matter.

mids2019 · 15/06/2025 07:22

Sorry to hear about those directly affected by the Iranian bombardment. Makes me reflect how safe the UK is and how fearful it must be to be an Israeli citizen now. His bless.

You have been very combative until this post.

I wish you well as I wish all the Palestinian parents in similar circumstances the same, without exception.

But I don't think you should be afforded any more care or thought.

This is how wretched the whole situation is. Can we not see that nobody should be mattered about more... I imagine this poster thinks they should, meanwhile tens of thousands of mothers have huddled beside their children while being bombed and bombed again... infrastructure, hospitals, regions decimated, while mothers lay beside their children.

Must we differentiate which mothers and which children?

What an incredible combination of sanctimony and malice.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. We should stay out of it. Israel started it. I feel sorry for their citizens.

Iran funds terrorists throughout the middle east so hardly started by Israel.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 15/06/2025 07:24

Fortunately I'm not a military strategist, as I'm pretty sure my instinct to stuff flowers down the barrels of guns would be a non-starter.

Like most people, I just want it to stop, and I hate that it will probably get worse before it gets better, there will be more death and destruction and more posturing and blustering from "our leaders".

Just got out of the shelter after a long time, the sounds outside were terrifying. Couldn’t tell if they were planes or rockets or possibly the iron dome. We felt and heard an impact that was close by and then eventually it went quiet. Then another barrage from Yemen. For those of you who sent kind wishes and empathy, thank you, it makes a difference. For those few with their nasty little comments, I wish you a peaceful night with your loved ones and pray that you find happiness in your lives soon.

Edited

I'm so sorry you are going through this, Hamas, Hezbollah and The Houthis all funded by Iran. I'm sorry they don't spend their money on improving the lives of their own people in their respective countries.

Other countries will not let Israel defend itself alone from these terrorists.

Stay safe.

She didn’t quite have the balls to directly say what she really thinks. She would have been reported probably - so she said it in a round about way. The meaning came through though loud and clear. It’s like when you walk past a group of anti Israel Pro Palestinian protesters (looking obviously Jewish Israeli) wearing a star/kippa/whatever and they start making hissing noises. I had to ask someone what it meant the first time it happened….

Oh my god, how horrific. The depths of their nastiness and hatred is hard to fathom. Yet every Jewish person I know has such stories. And STILL people will blithely say on here noone has a problem with Jewish people, they're just anti-Israel.

sualipa · 15/06/2025 07:56

It's Israel vs Iran then unless the mullhas really do have a death wish and attack the "Great Satan" - probably time for that deal Mr Peacemaker now that Iran has had a good spanking.

Terrible scenes in both Iran and Israel this morning. The UK, France and Germany have offered to hold negotiations with Iran.

It was Moshe Dayan the Israeli war general who summarised the policy of Israel towards the Palestinians as “we will make you live like dogs until you leave” . It was Ehud Barack the former Israeli prime minister who candidly admitted that of he were a young Palestinian, he would join a terrorist organisation.
The idea that Israel just wants to live in peace with its neighbours, who for some reason just won’t accept that, is pure fantasy.

As is your summary of the history. Anyone can pick out selective quotes and put them together to create whatever narrative they choose.

Selected individuals rather than the overall truth of Iran funding proxies in numerous countries.

Iran has been causing problems in the middle east for years fundingterrorists. I imagine Yeman would be better without the Houthis, Lebanon better without hezbollah and gaza better without Hamas. Imagine that for a moment.

mids2019 · 15/06/2025 08:41

It's amazing how many virtuous pro Palestinian people are hiding their anti semtism behind a very thin veneer. I unfortunately see the Jew hatred increasing as people see the extent of their military prowess over time with the hopeful removal of the Iranian regime as an existential threat. How many Iranian flags are we going to be seeing in London in support of their 'poor embattled' nation?

Yet Israel has been funding Hamas for years to the tune of billions of dollars because it undermined the case for a two state solution.

The Iranian flags you tend to see on the streets of London are at rallies in solidarity for Jewish people here and the Israeli hostages. They are always there. Though not all Iranian dissidents support Israeli government action.

A lot want the Shah's son back as the "rightful" heir to the throne the one his father took in a coup against a popular democratic PM and set the region on a path of autocracy and instability. No wonder Iranians are highly suspicious of western intentions on a country with the higest hydrocarbon reserves in the world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat

In June 2009, the U.S. President Barack Obama in a speech in Cairo, Egypt, talked about the United States' relationship with Iran, mentioning the role of the U.S. in 1953 Iranian coup saying:

This issue has been a source of tension between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. For many years, Iran has defined itself in part by its opposition to my country, and there is indeed a tumultuous history between us. In the middle of the Cold War, the United States played a role in the overthrow of a democratically elected Iranian government. Since the Islamic Revolution, Iran has played a role in acts of hostage-taking and violence against U.S. troops and civilians. This history is well known. Rather than remain trapped in the past, I have made it clear to Iran's leaders and people that my country is prepared to move forward.

Iran is indeed a danger, but I completely fail to see how these actions reduce it (except in the very short term in terms of reducing military capacity) particularly as it occurred while talks were ongoing in a region riven by divisions. And I massively object to our country being pressured into supporting unilateral action by a supposed “ally” led by a maverick with no regard for human life who just wants to cling on to power.
