Conflict in the Middle East

Yikes, Israel might have just attacked Iran!

SomeWomanSomewhere · 13/06/2025 01:17

This is NOT GOOD news!

Israel has declared a state of emergency, at least six explosions in Tehran.

This is seriously unfunny!

Israel has ZERO strategic depth - Iran has plenty. Nukes: see above, reverse!

By the way after an assassination attempt on a Houthi official, Yemen may have also officially entered the War and have apparently sent a barrage of ballistic missiles towards Israel.

They’ve been shooting daily for months. We’ve been running to shelter from Houthi missiles for ages now . Just had another barrage

Not quite daily, and some fail before they get here, but multiple times a week.

Jujujudo · 15/06/2025 01:27

Just got out of the shelter after a long time, the sounds outside were terrifying. Couldn’t tell if they were planes or rockets or possibly the iron dome. We felt and heard an impact that was close by and then eventually it went quiet. Then another barrage from Yemen. For those of you who sent kind wishes and empathy, thank you, it makes a difference. For those few with their nasty little comments, I wish you a peaceful night with your loved ones and pray that you find happiness in your lives soon.

MushMonster · 15/06/2025 01:18

I am really worried about it spreading like a wildfire.....

Yup, the chance of this snowballing is extremely high.

Like I said elsewhere Iran limited it's previous responses to Israel due to diplomacy and the promise of a ceasefire in Gaza and not wanting to set the region on fire.

Looking at the damage in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem right now (downed buildings etc) Israel will need to respond, then Iran will need to escalate again. If Israel is close to losing America will enter meaning that if Iran is close to losing Russia, China (whose weapons performed amazingly in the recent India/Pakistan skirmish) and potentially North Korea too.

These idiots.

Yemen being involved was inevitable.

I noticed that the recent ones had mostly been intercepted.

Hope that you and your family are doing as best as you can in this awful situation.

On the public arena, both governments have vowed to fight for as long as it takes. They are talking of burning cities to the ground and keep going.
To be honest, I do not see any of them having sense enough to stop this out of their own accord. External pressure may work, but then they go for it again a few days later. I think this time it will be a full on war. Put it all on the table, do not give the other side any chances of re-arming, thinking of new strategies or whatever. They will bomb each other, but other tactics will develop as things get more heated up. Iran has not sent planes, as far as I know, but I think they do have their own jets.
The potential of pulling other countries into it is high, as they encroach on others air space. Precisely where UK troops are. Let's hope someone can contain it, for good.

mids2019 · 15/06/2025 03:44

As allies of Israel Keir Starmer must be strong and allow the UK to take action to defend Israel against these attacks. The time to stand by is over and we have to look at the greater picture here and intervene in what may be an existential fight.

We have the ability alongside the US to ensure Israel remains defended and we have to look at this world in the way it really is allies and enemies. Israel is a friend and Iran is an enemy. There is an opportunity maybe here for a regime change in Iran and the prevention of an authoritarian dictatorship possessing a nuclear weapon.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 15/06/2025 04:25

Wrong, wrong, wrong. We should stay out of it. Israel started it. I feel sorry for their citizens.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 15/06/2025 04:33

And this is why we need so much extra spending on defence-to support the war mongering of other nations. We are all working to pay for this:

And the reason we can’t all ‘just get along’ is Iranian Islamist extremists (who govern Iran) have vowed to destroy Israel the first chance they get.
That’s never going to be allowed to happen.

To be fair another reason is the Jewish extremists who run Israel who believe they are gods chosen people and God has gifted them the promised land. They believe they have a God given right to create a greater Israel, displacing anyone who gets in the way.

This also isn’t going to be allowed to happen.

Oof x reading posts from mothers in the eye of the storm is pretty sobering. Trite though it sounds, I send much love ❤️

It's always the civilians caught up in it all that I think of, that's what grinds my gears about the ultimate futility of war, the mess and trauma that gets ignored because "noble causes" and greater good rhetoric. We forget that ultimately sheer accident of birth is all that protects us or throws us into the jaws of disaster. It goes for more personal experiences too, sickness, disability, poverty, death, bereavement etc. It sometimes takes a second for "Us" to become "Them". When it's engineered by TPTB with all their advantages, the injustice is too much to bear. And the sense of impotence is strong.

Meanwhile in the US, there are protests going on in LA and Philadelphia that are devolving into riots, that country is literally eating itself.

I can't remember a time in my 56 years where there was this level of instability in the world that seems to have been building over the last few years. I know we had the Cold War and the Falklands and various "wars" in the Middle East in general, but to me, this is unprecedented.

Fell asleep watching Agenda Free, and while I was sleeping it appears to have been relentless.

We're definitely staring into the unknown, but we just keep going about our business, hoping for some sanity.

Surreal.

HellsBalls · 15/06/2025 06:55

@Golden407 ”They believe they have a God given right to create a greater Israel”

I can see ‘greater Israel’ becoming the new ‘genocide’ when talking about Israeli activities in trying to protect itself. It will be shoehorned into every other post and will become the trending terminology.

In the meantime, Israel are rightly getting the military support from their allies. There was never any doubt over this.
I do hope, and expect, that the UK is only involved in protecting Israel.

Good peace in the Guardian basically outlining the bigger picture. Israel has destroyed its regional does in a series of devastating attacks over the last couple of years. The last domino to fall is the regime of Iran and I think if Israel an hold course this is acheivable. We will love in a safer world as Iran will no longer be able to be a nuclear power and hopefully there can be greater security in the region.

Israel’s attack on Iran has a real chance of bringing about regime change

Netanyahu has been systematically and successfully weakening his regional foes, now Tehran is in the crosshairs

Don’t we all wish everyone well, am I not allowed to remember Ella and others too
have I missed something.

Yes you have missed that your post agreed with @MusedeBordeaux that a mother sheltering with her children in a bomb shelter is being combative.

I thought about reporting both posts but No. Better than others can see what lack of empathy & compassion looks like.

I thought about it too. Very important for people to see how hollow the claims to care about civilians on 'all sides' actually are in some cases.

What's the alternative. If Iran does go after US military bases Trump says oh well nevermind, carry on.

It's escalated but Iran has been funding the various terrorist organisations throughout the Middle East so either everyone accepts that or deals with it.

As usual its only when Israel US does something people notice. Iran has been 'escalating' for years. What do people think Hamas/Hezbollah/Houthi attacks are? What the hell was 7 October? What on earth is building nukes?
