Conflict in the Middle East

Yikes, Israel might have just attacked Iran!

SomeWomanSomewhere · 13/06/2025 01:17

This is NOT GOOD news!

Israel has declared a state of emergency, at least six explosions in Tehran.

This is seriously unfunny!

Israel has ZERO strategic depth - Iran has plenty. Nukes: see above, reverse!

Can you share your sources?

Just from browsing X - should probably have said allegedly.

Disclaimer - before anyone starts having a go about sources, proof etc, I'm posting snippets for interest.

Thanks. Snippets are fine, I just wondered! So difficult to know the reality of what is going on from where we are.

I am lying beside my children in a bomb shelter in Tel Aviv after receiving warnings of imminent missile attacks. Thank you for being literally the only person I’ve seen on this cesspit of a forum to consider the innocent civilians in Israel as human beings.

Sounds frightening, hope you and your loved ones stay safe 🙏

And all the other innocents caught up in this conflict wherever they may be.

I think Netanyahu wants to position himself as the leader confronting the so-called “Axis of Evil,” admittedly motivated by naked self-interest. This opportunistic alliance now crystallising around Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea is united by shared strategic goals. By provoking Iran first, Netanyahu aims to send a warning shot across the bows of Russia and China on behalf of his larger allies. Rather than framing this solely as the defence of Israel, it’s an effort to forge a broader coalition against these powers.

The problem is that the US is increasingly turning inward, Western economies are struggling with serious structural and economic challenges, and the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza makes it difficult to portray this as an honourable endeavour. If Iran is wounded but not destroyed as a polity, it will likely focus on consolidating power domestically rather than posing an immediate threat to Israel. China its largest market for hydrocarbons will probably aid in its reconstruction, while Iran will likely intensify its efforts to develop a nuclear bomb, potentially with assistance from Russia and North Korea.

Those 3 countries are members of BRICS......

So this is where America is using Israel as it attack dog in the region to further it's aims. Put simply it is a fight by America to maintain it's hegemony (and more importantly Dollar hegemony). America is not taking well to no longer being the dominant great power in the world and is unable to compete honestly with it's peer rivals like China and Russia.

Ironically outsourcing it's manufacturing to China has meant that a lot of those skills have been lost in America, additionally due to the cheaper cost those jobs are not coming back. There's also only so long that you can print money with America's debt being $37 trillion.

Brzezinski famously warned about the potential danger of a China-Russia alliance, especially if it was formed out of a sense of shared grievances and a desire to counter US influence. Now add Iran and that alliance must be broken by any means.

The majority of the world is tired of endless wars and would rather trade both in business and culture. BRICS is offering this, Trump has vowed to destroy the alliance.

I’m so sorry to hear that you’re having to take shelter like this. I hope you and your family stay safe and find some comfort despite the fear and uncertainty. No one should have to live through such danger, and I truly hope peace comes soon so you can have some relief.

ArtTheClown · 14/06/2025 21:47

I don't think their post was about Israel. I saw your post about where you are with your children. I hope that you and all other innocent victims in all countries are kept safe and well, I truly hope that all are kept safe. We do care, most of us are absolutely horrified by it all and want to try to stop it.

I am hoping that Trump is changing his mind about wanting to destroy it. Trade instead of war seems very preferable.

Hope you keep safe juju and I’m aware also aware of Elladisenchanted and other mumsnetters in a similar situation.
There have been many posters on here concerned for the safety of all civilians, on both sides.
Some just want peace for all.

Also I think that the quasi military (as well as trade) alliances forming between the countries listed are, from their perspective, a response to the perceived threat of western military alliances. Not just an alliance to counter US influence, therefore, also to counter western threat, is their perception. If their desire is trade over war, however, and the majority in the west agree, potentially there is a peaceful way forward, it is a matter of finding how to achieve it.

You have been very combative until this post.

I wish you well as I wish all the Palestinian parents in similar circumstances the same, without exception.

But I don't think you should be afforded any more care or thought.

This is how wretched the whole situation is. Can we not see that nobody should be mattered about more... I imagine this poster thinks they should, meanwhile tens of thousands of mothers have huddled beside their children while being bombed and bombed again... infrastructure, hospitals, regions decimated, while mothers lay beside their children.

Must we differentiate which mothers and which children?

I agree, add in China's belt and road initiative and alliances it has formed with Global South countries its easy to see why many other countries are "looking east". As a Kenyan official once put it: "Every time China visits we get a hospital, every time Britain visits we get a lecture.".

Absolutely agree Mused.
If those people come on here and tell their story I’m sure most MNs would also wish them safety.

Whatever has gone on before on posts everyone is equal,
no one has the right to special privileges wherever they live,
whatever their religion or beliefs.
If everyone accepted we are all equal and worthy perhaps these wars wouldn’t be happening.

I doubt they have the energy to celebrate.
They're wide open to the attacks.
@MusedeBordeaux that was unnecessary and nasty .
All innocent lives matter, no matter what side they come from.
I know that is unthinkable and unrecognised on these threads.

Obviously
because everyone’s life is special, we are all equal.

I didn’t post anything about anyone expecting special privaleges.
Don’t twist my words
Theres nothing nasty about wishing everyone well, there is when people twist posts
