Conflict in the Middle East

Yikes, Israel might have just attacked Iran!

SomeWomanSomewhere · 13/06/2025 01:17

This is NOT GOOD news!

Israel has declared a state of emergency, at least six explosions in Tehran.

This is seriously unfunny!

Israel has ZERO strategic depth - Iran has plenty. Nukes: see above, reverse!

@sualipa

"But they are not the people rioting in our inner cities or attempting to set fire to migrant hotels or mosques and by doing so stoke up racicial hated and division."

But don't you think that five Iranians arrested for planning a terrorist attack in the UK also stokes (justified) fear and division?

HellsBalls · 13/06/2025 19:46

Bringing Tommy Robinson into the discussion is just an attempt to label people right wing extremists, as a response to comments on Islamist extremism.
The Iranian doomsday clock is alive and well and ticking down to the destruction of Israel.
They probably will need to reset it after this weekend though.

sualipa · 13/06/2025 19:46

Dangermoo · 13/06/2025 19:45

No they are just planning one of the biggest terrorist attacks ever 🙄

That quite a claim - worse than 911 ?

Thanks. After what happened in Southport and what was narrowly avoided in Liverpool I’m especially sensitive to people ramping up the rhetoric whenever a lone attacker goes rogue, only to have it spun into a sweeping narrative about Islamism. I genuinely hope that everyone here, whatever their political stripe, understands that and chooses to help lower the temperature, not raise it. It really does matter.

Perhaps you can confirm then, since you took issue with it.

Is the Iran countdown to Israel’s destruction clock, and the Tommy Robinson doomsday clock the same thing, because according to google, they are not. Not even remotely similar.

Since you accused me of using it to ramp up the rhetoric, I’d really appreciate some clarification, but I have no idea what you are on about.

1dayatatime · 13/06/2025 19:49

@BelleHathor

"All the advisers in Washington and Tel Aviv who dreamt this up are to blame."

So nothing to do with Iran trying to develop nuclear weapons, Iran sponsoring attacks on British shipping, Iran seizing Royal Navy sailors and Iranians planning terrorist attacks in London?

sualipa · 13/06/2025 19:46

What do you think the
results would have been, had those terrorists not been intercepted? Did you not read the excerpt I provided from proceedings in the House of Commons?

EasternStandard · 13/06/2025 19:50

Vivi0 · 13/06/2025 19:38

It doesn’t really help, actually.

I don’t know what Tommy Robinson speak is, but that aside, I lifted that quote from another poster, because I don’t doubt for a moment that Iran would use a nuclear weapon.

I googled the “countdown clock to Israel’s destruction” and some articles came up:

https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2024-10-07/israel-hamas-oct-7-iran-hezbollah

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/iran-al-quds-day-protest-clock-president-hassan-rouhani-a7806056.html

I have now googled the Tommy Robinson doomsday clock, and it appears to be something different entirely.

Are you sure you’re talking about the same thing? Because it doesn’t appear to be the same thing at all.

@sualipaare you talking about something different on this?

1dayatatime · 13/06/2025 19:51

@sualipa

"That quite a claim - worse than 911 ?"

Well of course we will never know because they were arrested. Perhaps you would prefer that they weren't next time?

Obviously, that’s not helpful to put it mildly. But the real concern is the rise of homegrown anti-Muslim extremism and the serious threat it poses to the peace and stability of our society. If we slide into even a low-level civil conflict, we risk losing everything that defines us as a pluralistic and peaceful nation. All decent people should be working tirelessly to ensure that never happens because if it does, the bad actors win. I can easily imagine malign foreign influences, such as covert Russian support, exploiting such a situation to sow further division and chaos

My point was vahguley generic and stands on it own. I wasn't aware of the Doomsday clock except in the context of the end of the wrold/climate change.

I would assume that if it were in that general area, we would have been clearly informed. If the impact is truly that extensive, it's not something the state could or would keep quiet about. Probably in the more 4 Lions territory.

Iran has according to Netanyahu been close to a nuke for nearly 30 years. It's a lie as big as Iraqs weapons of mass destruction.

Netanyahu chose to hit Irans nuclear installations, hence why Dimona is now a target. Netanyahu has also waged a war ignoring International Law so now must face a response with no rules.

Both Trump and Netanyahu thought that they could effect a regime change in Iran via the decapitation strikes today.

And considering the role that Britain has played in carving up and destabilising the region the idea of blowback should be expected. In fact doesn’t the terror warning level always go up after actions in the middle east.

Yikes, Israel might have just attacked Iran!

The ‘clock ticking down’ reference in the pp for example is Tommy Robinson speak. His followers are obsessed with this
they also call it the Domesday clock.

It incites hate. It’s been in the news in the past.

Its clear @sualipa didn’t bring TR up first.

hope that explains it @SharonEllis and @Vivi0

Oh dear. You and Sualipa obviously pay far more attention to TR than I do. I have no knowledge of his talking points. The Domesday clock is real though - I think it goes back way before TR was even a thing. So no, referencing something TR may have happened to reference doesnt make someone a TR supporter

He doesn’t even reference the Iranian countdown clock, I don’t think.

1995 by the brilliant Chris Hedges. After the sad death of Robert Fisk Chris gets the crown of thorns as the best Middle East reporter.

SharonEllis · 13/06/2025 20:05

Now reading other posts apparently TR's clock is different to the one I knew about anyway. So its all pretty irrelevant apart from tje fact that its a fact that Iran is obsessed with Israel's destruction. I couldn't give a rat's arse what TR thinks. About anything. I strongly recommend not giving him the oxygen of publicity.

I miss Sangita - sacked for telling the truth and replaced by the loathsome Feltz. Remember that Netanhayu was back in Court - that's no coincidence.

First the 18th of March and now this happens! How many more people have to die because Netanyahu's fear of the court cases against him?

LONDON -- Iran is moving 'very quickly' toward production of a nuclear bomb and could have such a weapon within two years, the authoritative Jane's Defence Weekly reported today.

Jane's quoted news reports as saying production on Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's nuclear bomb was 'entering its final stages,' and that construction would follow completion of a nuclear power plant being built with the help of West German experts.

Jane's Weekly editor Robert Hutchinson said that although the report originated with the Arabian Gulf press, 'We checked it out and it seems to stand up ... the indications are that the Iranians are moving that way and moving that way very quickly.'
