Conflict in the Middle East

Yikes, Israel might have just attacked Iran!

This is NOT GOOD news!

Israel has declared a state of emergency, at least six explosions in Tehran.

This is seriously unfunny!

Israel has ZERO strategic depth - Iran has plenty. Nukes: see above, reverse!

And a pp which was the first time this was posted on here at 6:10pm.

Guessing @sualipa picked up on this

I dont understand.

BelleHathor · 13/06/2025 19:16

It appears that Iranian Air defence is active again after being disabled for most of the day.

There are also unconfirmed reports that an Israeli fighter jet has been shot down with the pilot ejecting.

Also Iran has launched 100 missiles towards Israel.

The ‘clock ticking down’ reference in the pp for example is Tommy Robinson speak. His followers are obsessed with this
they also call it the Domesday clock.

It incites hate. It’s been in the news in the past.

Its clear @sualipa didn’t bring TR up first.

hope that explains it @SharonEllis and @Vivi0

Thanks, there are also pictures of explosions in Tel Aviv. Iran apparently targeting Israeli Air defences prior to a 2nd wave of missiles.

Nowayyousure · 13/06/2025 19:25

"The threat Iran poses to the world is, for some reason, being downplayed on here.

Some posters seem to think it is quite unfair to prevent them from developing nuclear capabilities."

Indeed.

Iran have been arming terrorist groups for many years. They have funded Hamas, Hezbollah, The Houthis and others. They have caused so many problems in the Middle East and North Africa. They also cause much harm to their own citizens. That appears to be missed.

I note Trump says he warned Iran to make a deal 2 months ago and they haven't.

That's Tommy Robinson hyperbole but with a degree rather than the terraces at Luton Town. I really think responsible people need to crank dowm the rhetoric unless it's an outcome they are actively seeking.

What?!

Thanks. After what happened in Southport and what was narrowly avoided in Liverpool I’m especially sensitive to people ramping up the rhetoric whenever a lone attacker goes rogue, only to have it spun into a sweeping narrative about Islamism. I genuinely hope that everyone here, whatever their political stripe, understands that and chooses to help lower the temperature, not raise it. It really does matter.

Is the issue that Israel and other countries has nuclear arms ? Is that why they refuse to ‘abide’ by the agreement with the US

Shouldn't all countries be reducing their capabilities, not increasing.

I absolutely agree.
Surely everyone should support peace to all! and not invite any further hatred.

ArtTheClown · 13/06/2025 19:36

Is there any actual reliable sources that Iran has managed to hit anything? Because my uncomfirmed reports have their missiles malfunctioning.

Thanks, but I'd rather think along the lines of being forewarned is forearmed. Good job Isael thinks that way, which is why they invested in the iron dome. It's also why the UK's intelligence services never lower their guard- thank goodness.

I just read the IDF have asked Israelis not to publish photos or locations of any places they may have hit.

This may imply they have perhaps hit some places but I'm not sure either.

Vivi0 · 13/06/2025 19:38

It doesn’t really help, actually.

I don’t know what Tommy Robinson speak is, but that aside, I lifted that quote from another poster, because I don’t doubt for a moment that Iran would use a nuclear weapon.

I googled the “countdown clock to Israel’s destruction” and some articles came up:

https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2024-10-07/israel-hamas-oct-7-iran-hezbollah

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/iran-al-quds-day-protest-clock-president-hassan-rouhani-a7806056.html

I have now googled the Tommy Robinson doomsday clock, and it appears to be something different entirely.

Are you sure you’re talking about the same thing? Because it doesn’t appear to be the same thing at all.

NIRIM, ISRAEL - AUGUST 29: Relatives of hostages Ziv and Gali Berman who were kidnapped on Oct 7 Hamas deadly attack hold photos of hostages as family members use giant speakers to call their captive loved ones near the border with the Gaza Strip on Au...

Opinion: Israel is fighting to beat Iran's doomsday clock

The war that began in Gaza was never about Gaza alone. Defeating Hamas is the first stage of a regional conflict between Israel and the Iranian-led axis of radical Islamism.

Does your sensitivity extend to people ramping up the rhetoric when a group of five Iranians are arrested for planning terror attacks in the UK?

Times of Israel:

The IDF calls on the public not to publish the locations or photos of missile impacts.
“The enemy monitors the footage to improve its attack capabilities,” the military says.

Whatsinanamehey · 13/06/2025 19:41

This is all pretty shit. Innocent people on both sides will suffer. Do we not have enough war and suffering as it is.

But they are not the people rioting in our inner cities or attempting to set fire to migrant hotels or mosques and by doing so stoke up racicial hated and division.

Yes we do have too much war. Which is why Trump and Netanyahu using the nuclear negotiations as a ruse for an attack has led us to this.

All the advisers in Washington and Tel Aviv who dreamt this up are to blame.

Pray for all the people in the region.
