Seems some activists including G Thumberg signed to say they wanted to leave immediately and are home or on way home.

Some didn't and need to be deported to their home countries. No.idea how long court takes, assume Israel will want to.just get rid, having other more pressing matters to deal with.

Greta saying they were taken and held in the bottom of boat etc and worried for them.

What did this stunt cost in money, in court fees, to the climate in air journeys home, in wasted consular time, Sweden issued a comment on that, in talking about them rather than Gazans.

Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg deported, Israel says, after Gaza aid boat intercepted

The activists' yacht, which was trying to carry aid to Gaza, was intercepted by Israeli forces in the early hours of Monday.

Six Gaza aid boat activists deported from Israel after three days in detention

Earlier, Israeli human rights group Adalah said they were being transferred to Ben Gurion Airport "after more than 72 hours in Israeli custody following the unlawful interception of the Madleen Freedom Flotilla in international waters".

Adalah, which provided legal advice to the activists, said two others who were on board remained in Israeli custody as they awaited deportation on Friday.
Among those who left on Thursday was Rima Hassan, a French-Palestinian Member of the European Parliament.

In a post on X, the Israeli foreign ministry said: "Six more passengers from the 'selfie yacht,' including Rima Hassan, are on their way out of Israel.

"Bye-bye-and don't forget to take a selfie before you leave," it added.

In the meantime, the Egyptians have stopped the March to Gaza and are getting heavy handed with the protesters.
Seems that the Egyptians are not taking any shit.

Telegraph: Pro-Palestine protesters on ‘march to Gaza’ beaten by Egyptian police

Egyptian authorities halted demonstrators planning to march to the country’s border with Gaza with the stated aim of breaking Israel’s blockade on the territory.

A separate convoy of protesters travelling from Tunisia to meet the larger group was also stopped on Friday by security forces in eastern Libya.

Men in plain clothes were seen in footage kicking and beating demonstrators and attempting to drag some away from the group.

The protesters responded by throwing water at the men, video footage shows. It was not immediately clear whether the assaults were by security services or bystanders, and what unfolded prior to the altercations.

Passports of at least 40 people were confiscated, organisers said, after demonstrators demanded to be let through a checkpoint patrolled by officers in riot gear and flanked by armoured vehicles.

Security forces then began forcibly detaining and removing activists to halt the protests.

The organisers of the march said: “Forty participants of the Global March to Gaza have had their passports taken at a checkpoint on the way out of Cairo.
“They are being held in the heat and not allowed to move.” They added that another 15 are being held at hotels.

Authorities in both Egypt and Libya have stopped activists seeking to break Israel’s blockade on Gaza, protest organisers have said, with reports of more detentions and deportations taking place.

“Forty participants of the Global March to Gaza have had their passports taken at a checkpoint on the way out of Cairo,” the organisers of the Global March to Gaza said in a statement on Friday."

Al Jazerra report both Libya and Egypt block access and have deported some people.

Some reports that they are concerned who might be involved in the March.

"The activists are from France, Spain, Canada, Turkiye and the United Kingdom, it said, adding, “We are a peaceful movement and we are complying with Egyptian law.”

The group urged embassies to help secure their release so they could complete their voyage."

Embassies must love these people going into other countries, getting in trouble then urging help . Bogged down with people purposely ignoring advice not to go.

They don’t understand the Middle East divisions and mentality. The Egyptians want absolutely fuck all to do with Palestine/Gaza and the people that live there. Hence the ‘impenetrable’ border they have.

I do hope there is the same outrage leveled at the Egyptian and Libyan authorities that was directed at Israel for the kidnapping and torture and detention of the Madleen protesters! 😆

Best not hold your breath for that. I suspect Egypt and Libya may not have many fucks to give anyway, but we'll see.

It's more outrageous to give them sandwiches and water and pop them back home where they are safer, (whilst calling them a selfie boat which hurt their feelings).

The kicking and beatings other countries gave out is obviously OK, since it wasn't Israel 🤔

There's considerable outrage.

This video is just a snippet -

The comments make it clear people are devastated by the Egyptian government. One comment (presumably from a Muslim) states Saudi Arabia & Egypt are more guilty than Israel.

But, there's been masses of criticism of Egypt, the Egyptian government, all over the internet.
For myself, as someone who is horrified by the situation in Gaza, I'm appalled by the Egyptian government at the moment. Appalled and shocked. I don't know much about Libya. I'll look it up.

OK. Fair enough. Unfortunately this board on Mumsnet seems to be very polarised. Not much nuance, or opportunity to discuss in a balanced way without being pounced on and accused of something or other! It's disappointing, and I don't post on here often for that reason.

No ones pounching on you.

Earlier I made a comment about no one condemned the behaviour of Egypt or Libya towards people heading to Gaza, but, the condemnation on Israel who were safely intercepting a boat was huge (with lots of exageration over the whole brief episode). Hence my comment of double standards.

You mentioned the general Internet, I merely commented that on mn no condemnation of other countries just condemnation of Israel which is pretty typical to be fair. Its pretty anti Israel on here. Not sure how X or other social media is though.

Oh sorry, you've misunderstood. I meant generally speaking. I wasn't referring to our exchange at all!
I said it in response to your comment that nobody on MN had condemned Egypt and Libya. Only Israel. I was trying to say that maybe on MN that's the case as it's so polarised on this board that most people seem to be either fanatically Zionist or the opposite, only critical of Israel, even if other countries are also complicit in the genocide. That's what I meant! I guess I was trying to say that yes it's probably the case you haven't seen much criticism of Egypt and Libya on here for that reason. I don't read many of the threads here, so can't comment.

For me though, I think Egypt and Libya (the governments not the people) are now complicit in Israel's (the government not the people) genocide of innocent Gazan civilians (who are not Hamas). Outside of MN (I don't know about here) that's a very mainstream view.

Same … I don’t use much social media but MN gives the impression that all most posters care about is criticising Israel (apart from the few people defending Israel)

Post after post criticising Israel.

Very very few criticising Hamas, Iran or now this news has come out, Egypt.

Disagree that people defending Israel on here are “fanatically Zionist”.

I had barely heard of the term before joining these debates on MN & wouldn’t have even known what the term meant.

@WoodlandLove Most people are not 'fanatically zionist'. Zionism is a very simple concept that the Jewish people have a homeland in Israel. Why would people need to be fanatical about something so basic and self evident?

However, in the face of obsessive, you might say fanatical, antizionists who dress their antisemitism up in the political cloak of being against zionism its impossible not to push back. Because we know what happens when racism grows. You say anything that is not critical of Israel, or pick out obvious misinformation or hypocrisy, and you are considered a fanatical zionist. And then, ust look at the pages and pages and pages of threads criticising Israel, obsessively monitoring Netanyahu's every utterance, compared to any other international subject or conflict or human rights related subject. And look more widely on social media. Everyone has to have an opinion on this subject only, not anything going on in the rest of the world. And tell me again who the fanatics are?
