The UK, France and Canada threaten Israel

"The leaders of Britain, France, and Canada on Monday threatened action against Israel if it does not stop a renewed military offensive in Gaza and lift aid restrictions"

"We have always supported Israel's right to defend Israelis against terrorism. But this escalation is wholly disproportionate," the three Western leaders said in the joint statement, adding that they will not stand by while Netanyahu's government pursues "these egregious actions."

My personal opinion is once again it is too little, too late. However I'm interested to hear opinions on what exactly this threatening action would consist of?

What has caused these governments to issue such a statement now and not before? The blockade of aid has been ongoing for more than two months. Why didn't they say take further action earlier?

Lastly, will this statement have any effect on the Netanyahu extremist government? Or will they brush it off as they usually do? I'm not sure as these are three powerful allies who have so far been quite wishy washy with their condemnation.

It blows my mind that posters still support this monstrous government.

Completely agree.

I now understand how so many historical events did occur.

Comedycook · 20/05/2025 10:48

Which posters?

ssd · 20/05/2025 10:53

I note @Comedycook and @quantumbutterfly spectacularly avoided my point and accused me of excusing antisemitism instead and posting a lazy, stupid and inaccurate post.

Well done, great effort at avoiding my point.

I objected to your comparison.

What was you point?

Whereas holocaust inversion is completely fine.

Indeed. Hamas is despicable, Netanyahu’s government is despicable.

I think the EU needs to act now too. Time is up. The biggest problem with that that I forsee is that the EU acts as a bloc and Germany.

Imo Israel are being deliberately provocative at this point. They know that using language like 'concentrating people' and 'cleansing' will evoke strong emotions but its the language they have chosen to use. Its seems to me that they are entering the final act now and they want to know just how far they can push it. What can they say and do without consequence. Like their democratically elected minister said 'We are dismantling Gaza, leaving it in ruins with unprecedented destruction, and the world still hasn’t stopped us.' Israel want to know how far can they can go, just what will people and governments around the world will sit back and watch. It's time for the UK, Canada, the EU etc to show them, theyve done the wishy washy talk before and look what's happened a government has become the biggest killer of children in the world, they are starving 2mill people and now want to 'cleanse' the land for themselves.

Whatsinanamehey · 20/05/2025 12:01

@Mylegishangingoff the EU are going to discuss potentially ending their association agreement with Israel today.

I definitely agree that Netanyahu is pushing to see how far he can go. With US support it's clear that it is very far.

Whatsinanamehey · 20/05/2025 12:03

The current US administration and the EU are at loggerheads over many issues ie Ukraine so it's not surprising that they differ here too.

It won't get through German's guilt and shame is so much that they will back Israel right or wrong and they will veto it.

I’m not sure they can do much can they? Sanctions of some sort?
Unfortunately each side are as extreme as each other.
Hamas are already a terror group, maybe put Netanyahu and his government on the list too? Although that’s not going to help civilians on either side.
Unfortunately diplomatic efforts are not effective when dealing with extremists.
Look at the Ukraine War. Putin is hell bent on annexing Ukraine along with Crimea. He’s not going to stop until he’s succeeded.
Maybe WW3 is inevitable and the only way for an extended period of peace 🤷‍♀️
Doesn’t matter what side you support in a war. The outcome is always the death of innocent civilians on both sides.

Sadly I think you are right we are in an era of 'wildfire' local wars that at some point will join up into a global world war. Humanity moves in cycles and the era of relative peace and increasing prosperity for the western world is coming to an end. Trump for all his sins, which are profound and manifest does to seem to have an aversion to wars in general whatever the rights and wrongs. Gaza's best hope to a certain extent lies in his hands with the pressure he can bring to bear on Israel and his new bestie mates in the Arab world who have bought him in a way like no one ever before.

Silence1 · 20/05/2025 12:24

There was a poll from 2016 by Pew Research centre which showed
"Nearly half of Jewish Israelis agree that Arabs should be expelled or transferred from Israel, and a solid majority (79 percent) maintain that Jews in Israel should be given preferential treatment"
and
"found that Israeli Jews increasingly believe the West Bank settlements help, rather than hurt, Israel’s security – and most (61%) believe Israel was given by God to the Jewish people."

Shit isn’t it 😕
After the Iraqi and Afghanistan conflicts, I think the west are reluctant to intervene again.
The only chance for a modicum of peace currently is the removal of Netanyahu and Hamas. That’s not going to happen without force.

It is isn't we are in a world where we have to hope for the least worse outcomes rather than something more postibe. Stamer just saying in HoC that we are horrified by Netanhayu. Strong words.

Whatsinanamehey · 20/05/2025 13:02

More from Starmer,

Sir Keir Starmer has just been addressing MPs in the House of Commons.
He says the level of suffering in Gaza is "utterly intolerable" and he is "horrified by the escalation from Israel".
"The recent announcement that Israel will allow a basic quantity of food into Gaza is totally and utterly inadequate," he says.
"So we must coordinate our response, because this war has gone on for far too long. We cannot allow the people of Gaza to starve."

Netanyahu is fucking delusional, he has just said the UK, France and Canada are on the 'wrong side of history'.

Does he have any idea how decent people around the world view his actions of starving an entire people?

Netanyahu will live in a bubble of self righteousness, surrounded by people just like him. And he knows he has trump on his side.

Its a lethal combination.

Well I'm relieved he is at least saying this - finally.

There are many who have been through wars or lost loved ones through wars that were nothing to do with them. Many soldiers still living who were fighting terrorist organisations.
Many who remember 9/11, IRA etc.
When the west pick sides in the east, there is never a happy ending for anyone. Yet a side was chosen again and Israel was the ‘winner’.
Many people on this forum did not want the west to get involved in the first place. Not because of hate but because of the very situation that is happening now.
Whilst I understand that it seems harsh, it’s what happens when it seems history is just repeating itself.
No one wants kids to die. No one wants them to suffer. But after all the years of terror attacks and subsequent conflicts, you have to see that there comes a time to reflect on what the purpose of involvement is.
I could say that initially, Afghanistan women were given their freedoms back, which was phenomenal. Yet here they are again as 2nd class citizens.
What would have been the situation today if the world had said ‘crack on but keep us out of it’?
I don’t know the answer but when the west arms a side, the balance of power shifts. Great for Ukraine because it assists in equalising the weapon capability. Not so great for Gaza because they don’t have the capability like Russia.

Trump is more of a wild card - as ever Trump has never got over that Netanhayu was the first leader to congratulate Biden on his win when he had felt he had done more than any other US President re moving the embassy and writing a sort of blank cheque. His son-in-law Jared Jushner has reportedly made $2 billion in Saudi deals - he's not a ntaural Zionist more a Trumpist and America First as well as being wildy corrupt to boot.
