US confirms plan for private firms to deliver Gaza aid despite UN alarm

The US has confirmed that a new system for providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza through private companies is being prepared, as Israel's blockade continues for a third month.

US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said "distribution centres" protected by security contractors would provide food and other supplies to over a million people initially, as part of an effort to prevent Hamas stealing aid.

He denied Israel would take part in aid delivery or distribution, but said its forces would secure the centres' perimeters.

It comes as details emerged about the controversial plan, which UN agencies have reiterated they will not co-operate with because it appears to "weaponize" aid.

Surely those calculations are done all the time by aid organisations eg how many people, how many calories, nutritional content, cultural considerations.

You may not buy the comment that hamas steal and monetise aid, that's your privilege.

I trust the aid agencies with feeding Palestinians, I don't bloody trust the Israeli Government who seem to want as many Palestinians dead as possible.

That isn’t true. They could have killed them all by now if that was their aim.

Their aim is to kill as many Hamas as possible.

Whilst not giving a shit how many Innocent Palestinians are killed in the process. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed in the past few days alone.

Netanyahu said this morning that even though they are allowing in minimum aid, he hasn't abandoned his aim to take over the whole of Gaza. I believe you are spot on @Mylegishangingoff

And posters will be on here in 6/12/however many months it takes saying but isn't it positive that Palestinians will now be safe, I don't understand why everybody is so negative, isn't it a good thing that Palestinians won't be murdered anymore. You'd think that people would be happy about them leaving but no, it's always just about how bad Israel are.

Oh they've killed plenty don't worry, and the killing hasn't stopped has it? And thats not even counting the bodies not yet found, and the future deaths from associated injuries and disease. And we all know the point will come when Israel declares "get out of Gaza or we will kill you". We aren't far off that now I suspect.

I saw an article yesterday, I think it was in the guardian and they were talking about how there are 36 cases verified so far where a building was bombed and every single casualty pulled from the rubble was a woman or a child. No fighters, just families. It's scary to think in just how many bombings this has been the case that we will never know about because Israel never plans to let independent investigators into the strip. Some organisations are doing stellar work trying to verify Israels stories but unless people can actually get in there we are never going to know for the sure the true scale of Israels atrocities. People will just continue to repeat what Israel say until it becomes the truth.

Whatsinanamehey · 19/05/2025 11:20

The IDF have now just declared the entirety of Khan Younis as a combat zone and ordered everyone to leave. That's close to 200,000 people being asked to just leave at a moments notice. Where do they all go? What happens to those who are unable to leave? Are they just fair game for Killing because the IDF declared their homes a combat zone this morning. It's absolute depraved cruelty.

Odras · 19/05/2025 11:20

@Twiglets1 they could, but that would have been unacceptable to Israeli citizens, government officials and international governments.

Instead of just killing people, they have attacked the basics of life, the sewage system, people’s homes, food sources like farmland, water systems, healthcare workers and facilities, phone lines and internet equipment ect…. All those essentials to life have been targeted and are now mainly destroyed.

That’s not the same as it being their intention to kill as many Palestinians as possible as the other poster said.

Civilians always get killed in great numbers in wars. Even more so in this case because the Hamas fighters don’t wear uniforms and hide in civilian buildings like hospitals, schools etc as a deliberate tactic.

Yes it would have been completely unacceptable I agree.

Which is why I had to correct Missy when she stated that the Israeli government seem to want as many Palestinians dead as possible.

Well we never see any independent verified evidence of all these Hamas fighters supposedly hiding in hospitals /schools/refugee tented camps/ orphanages etc... Now why don't we see that independent evidence? Oh yes it's because Israel won't allow independent observers or journalists in, gosh I wonder why?? 🤔 🙄

I can’t influence what you think about why Israel don’t allow journalists in.

Oh come on. Do you really expect us to believe that the Israeli government value the lives of journalists (especially when more journalists were killed in Gaza in a few months than have ever been killed in a single country over a year)

It’s not a new thing to ban journalists from entering war zones but it always happens when those in power don’t want the world to see the truth.

It’s for each country to decide I guess whether they allow journalists in or not.

@MissyB1 Theyve now said “minimal”. (BBC today).

Whatsinanamehey · 19/05/2025 17:43

Nine aid trucks have been allowed in today. The UN have said this is only a drop in the ocean for what is needed.

Netanyahu has said he's only allowing aid in because some important allies threatened to withdraw their support. Does he think he can allow in the bare minimum just so he can say look stop complaining now, we allowed in some aid?

Odras · 19/05/2025 17:57

Yes he does. And it will work to a certain extent.

Whatsinanamehey · 19/05/2025 18:31

22 countries including the UK have signed a statement demanding the FULL resumption of aid. Not this mockery or games that Netanyahu is trying to play.

The foreign ministers of the countries, including France and Germany, say that “whilst we acknowledge indications of a limited restart of aid,” the population of the war-ravaged territory “faces starvation” and “must receive the aid they desperately need.”
The statement was also signed by the foreign ministers of Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.
