As well as dangerous? He wants to help the Israelis in their ethnic cleansing of Gaza and own it so he can turn it into a holiday destination with the Palestinians packed off somewhere.

His greed really knows no bounds.

YABU - it’s a great idea, can’t wait to go to the new ‘riviera’!

YANBU - his threats to other countries and dangerous for the world.

He's not surrounded by "sane people" though, is he?

There is a group of people - Musk, Witkoff, Kushner, Rubio and others - who are the real nasties behind what is happening in the White House. Trump is just the front man who believes what they tell him and will say whatever stupid ideas that they put in front of him. See also R.F.Kennedy Jr - another bumbling idiot who can barely string together a coherent sentence but who is in line to be in charge of healthcare.

But you were happy with Fauci I'm sure

I'm American and I'm genuinely terrified.

The things he's doing aren't going to make America richer, although they may benefit a few. They are, overall, going to make it poorer, sicker, less safe and less educated, and that's just a beginning.

I am not American but I genuinely love your country and it hurts to see what's going on. You have my sympathy.

Newbutoldfather · 05/02/2025 09:04

@Havanananana ,

I disagree. I think Trump is very much in charge and his appointment of useful idiots (RFK, Hegseth etc) demonstrate it.

They are all pretty flawed characters and serve as long as they don’t step out of line. They will be fired if they disagree with Trump, in two seconds flat.

If you look at how Putin behaved when he first took power, Trump is very similar, except moving even faster. People thought that Putin was a weak president, a puppet of the oligarchs. He pretty soon showed he was the polar opposite.

username299 · 05/02/2025 09:04

Musk has proposed that they remove all government regulations.

I'm counting down the days until this band of morons are ousted.

All these Trump posts are unhinged. Is this going to be constant for the next four years? I have no idea what’s happening with him as he’s easy to ignore but the world didn’t end when he was president previously so why the panic now? Stop reading about him, it’ll help your mental health

Sure, just ignore everything the President says. Seems like a great idea. Maybe all news and foreign policy should be based on believing the USA is insane and should be ignored.

RingoJuice · 05/02/2025 09:05

So I’m a Trump voter.

Not a huge fan of this one tbh but willing to see where it goes.

After all, it’s a starting point for negotiations.

It would be better tbh if an Arab state like Saudi or UAE managed this. No way can a Maghreb state like Jordan or Lebanon handle any more Palestinian refugees nor should they suffer any more as they’ve a bad history wrt Palestinian refugees.

MintTwirl · 05/02/2025 09:05

I am finding him more frightening and sinister this time around and we’re only a couple of weeks in.

Thank you, much appreciated 😊

It's not just the US, though. Things like kneecapping the FBI, cutting USAID/PEPFAR (which right now, promote democracy and fight things like Ebola and HIV mutating into even more dangerous forms), pulling out of the UN Human Rights Council, NATO and the WHO are, unfortunately, going to affect the rest of the world as well.

Whoarethoseguys · 05/02/2025 09:06

XWKD · 05/02/2025 08:18

He's a lunatic and a moron.

I agree but he is also dangerous , a huge hypocrite and not terribly bright. . And this time all his advisors are just as back so not stopping him from carrying out his most bonkers ideas.
He critisises other countries but threatens to take over other countries himself. Making Canada part of the USA and turning Gaza into a holiday resort!
And he says the UK is out of line and critisises Europe for not buying enough from the USA as if it was compulsory to buy things from them !
He sounds like a dictator .
And yet the likes of Reform still think he is wonderful. I just hope people wake up soon.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2025 09:07

Often I don't think the things done by the people in power are right but only Trump has ever made me think "WTAF?!"

Ilovemytulips · 05/02/2025 09:07

I was wondering if he is just treating this like he does a business deal. Suggest something so outlandish so in the end they are forced to settle for something a little less outlandish. But not what they would have agreed to outright at the start?

No, I don’t think so either. I work with a lot of Americans and the first thing I thought for all these government employees his firing at will or threatening to make redundant was - what about their healthcare?
They and their families rely on work for their medical coverage. No job, no healthcare.

I can’t see how any of this will benefit most Americans. Food prices will go up, again. Last time I was over I couldn’t believe the cost of fresh fruit and veg and decent meat - my jnlaws are spending a fortune on fresh food. The crap food - the giant sized processed stuff is still cheap, but not the healthiest foods.
And as for Trump saying Europe doesn’t take enough of US ‘farm’ stuff. Why would we?
We have higher welfare and food standards, and many people are worried about the food miles of their groceries. I want to eat chicken fresh sourced from our county, or at least country, not one that’s full of preservatives and shipped from Ohio.

mitogoshigg · 05/02/2025 09:09

Completely!

I think the European leaders are completely bemused by this latest craziness, not a squeak from any of them yet, I suspect there's high profile meetings ongoing at the moment

Because he is dangerous! Burying your head in the sand won't make him go away

Trump is not like other politicians, who have a professional, middle class approach. He talks like a guy in a bar but he’s not ‘mad’. You have to remember that 90% of what he says will not come to pass. If you concentrate on what he actually does and not what he says, you will be less depressed.

Not any bars I go to

Negotiations over what exactly? Forcing the Palestinians out of their land altogether to foreign countries?
And the idea that Gaza becomes a US territory of some sort and turned into a holiday resort, that sounds good to you?

Annoyeddd · 05/02/2025 09:12

He is planning on sacking/making redundant/buying out most of the US civil service so there will be no one left to run the schools, Medicaid, Medicare, pensions, social security etc. so basically the poorer parts of society will have to fend for themselves.

TroysMammy · 05/02/2025 09:12

My partner thinks this is the scenario for these ridiculous outbursts.

"Good morning Mr President. What did you dream about last night?"
"Well, I dreamt about Greenland and it being near America we could have it"
"Good idea Mr President, we'll put a bid in for Greenland."

"Good morning Mr President, what did you dream about last night? "
Insert yet another ludicrous idea and response et al.

Worldinyourhands · 05/02/2025 09:17

Honestly when the US voted this clown in again I just decided to disengage. Couldn't tell you what he's saying or doing (beyond the OP in this thread) and not giving it any headspace. I have zero control over him - but this is what the US wanted and voted in (a second time) so they can crack on.

Yep. Unfortunately it doesn't translate so well in international diplomacy. Being an unhinged corporate real estate developer is one thing, being an unhinged state is quite another. You can see the American sphere of influence dwindling practically by the day, and he's barely started.

nooooname · 05/02/2025 09:17

Hopefully he is just setting the cat amongst the pigeons and it's the starting point of various Arab nations negotiating for a better outcome. The alternative doesn't bear thinking about...

Goldfsh · 05/02/2025 09:18

Honestly, I couldn't believe it when I woke up this morning and saw the headlines. Gaza as an American beach resort?

I think there's a really high risk he'll get threatened militarily by China at this point, and then just unleash nuclear weapons to obliterate half the world.

RingoJuice · 05/02/2025 09:18

Ofc I don’t want America to manage Gaza. The negotiations will be over which country will eventually manage Gaza.

It cannot be Israel. It cannot be the Gazans themselves. It (imo) shouldn’t be America. Lebanon and Jordan both have negative experiences with Palestinian refugees, they cannot do it. Egypt probably refused.

It should be a Gulf country. They may ask Saudi to do it in exchange for recognizing Israel. They also need migrant labor so it could be a temporary home for the refugees.

Newbutoldfather · 05/02/2025 09:19

What is shocking about Trump is that the world’s dominant nation might no longer be a reliable friend.

And so much of the west have totally depended on the U.S for so long.

Want a nuclear shield, don’t criticise Trump.

Want free use of Microsoft, Apple, Google, AI, don’t criticise Trump.

So, everyone is now subservient to the Tsar, bar Russia and China, And even they will have a complex relationship with Trump. He will happily cede the Donbas and Crimea to get Putin onside and Putin will get renewed access to all the trappings of U.S luxury in return. I suspect there will even be a long term deal where China gets Taiwan as soon as the chip fab can be replicated in the states.

We’ll see, but I don’t think any western society is prepared to go back 25 years in order to confront Trump so, at least for the moment, he rules the world.

thefamilyofthings · 05/02/2025 09:21

The thing is, we can't disengage. All of this shitshow is going to come looking for us. I don't know exactly how (if I did, I'd be making money from it) but here are some suggestions.

  • His tariffs tank the stock market (last set of tariffs in the US instrumental in creating the Great Depressions). My retirement fund is halved, I am working until I die.
  • The lack of vaccinations and health research result in a world-wide epidemic.
  • A massive war.
  • The backlash against Keir Starmer being so weak with the US allows Reform to be come the biggest party in the US.
  • The above, KS is weak on Trump's plans for Gaza, the UK becomes a massive terrorist target. As will happen to the US if he does follow through on his lunacy.
