As well as dangerous? He wants to help the Israelis in their ethnic cleansing of Gaza and own it so he can turn it into a holiday destination with the Palestinians packed off somewhere.

His greed really knows no bounds.

YABU - it’s a great idea, can’t wait to go to the new ‘riviera’!

YANBU - his threats to other countries and dangerous for the world.

I'm a British Jew married to an Israeli, and nobody in my circle approves of this or wants it. Not sure what the answer is, but it isn't this.

I'm a Zionist, don't get me wrong, but this isn't the right way of pursuing a peaceful safe Israel.

I agree with you, I can't believe Netanyahu was nodding along looming so smug and happy. Today he wants Gaza, what's to stop him for wanting a piece of Israel next?

Ilovemytulips · 05/02/2025 08:45

Looking!

All these Trump posts are unhinged. Is this going to be constant for the next four years? I have no idea what’s happening with him as he’s easy to ignore but the world didn’t end when he was president previously so why the panic now? Stop reading about him, it’ll help your mental health

Stop reading about him? It’s a little bit tricky when it’s headline news and his actions are threatening the stability of the whole world .
Trus me, I would LOVE to ignore him, love to.
But he’s in an enormous position of power and this time around is different- he has the tech giants at his side.
And that’s before he fulfills his promise to American voters that they won’t need to vote ever again if they elect him…
The only consolation is that half the US population didn’t vote for him - and they aren’t going to sit in silence while this megalomaniac tries to turn the rest of the world into a revenue source for the US.

He's a lunatic and a moron.

That's what my Psychiatrist said.
He said some other things too, but they were bigly words and I didn't really understand them.

username299 · 05/02/2025 08:46

I think during Trump's first term a load of mental health professionals wrote a letter outlining all his disorders, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

He said exactly what he was going to do and it seems like he's doing it. The people who voted for him will be delighted. From what I can see on Twitter, they think he's doing God's work.

I'd buckle up.

Oh I can. Throwing the Palestinians out, finally. What’s not to live from his point of view.

The shit show can't continue in Gaza. Israelis must be able to live safely without terrorists demanding their erasure.

Avatartar · 05/02/2025 08:48

Nowaysunshine · 05/02/2025 08:22

Remembering a tv programme some years back when he was developing 'his' golf club in Scotland - the terrible things he put the local people through to bulldoze his plans were shocking - guy definitely an unhinged bully.

Yes with Emily Maitlis and he was v condescending with her. I’d love to know what happened to the poor old man on a piece of land with cottage by the sea that he and several generations before owned and farmed. He refused to be bought out, so trumps contractors cut his water supply off. Did they leave him alone or force him out?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 05/02/2025 08:48

He's terrifying.

Western interventions in these areas has never gone that well.

HPandthelastwish · 05/02/2025 08:49

This and the awful things happening to women around the world is like watching a dystopian novel play out. We all wonder when watching The Handmaids Tale and it's ilk why other countries didn't step in and yet this is it, we just watch it play out and cross our fingers it doesn't come for us too.

War mongering is probably smart for Trump, increases employment in military and construction services, increases the need to buy support products and American made construction products (where they'll get the raw materials from to produce them who knows). They are so patriotic over there the they are likely to come together for the military etc

crumblingschools · 05/02/2025 08:49

What’s to stop him saying he will target Israel next @Notmycircusnotmyotter

drspouse · 05/02/2025 08:49

We know that. Non Trump voters in the US know that. But it's their fault the world has to put up with him again because they thought virtue signalling would be the way to get re elected.

ColdLittleHeart · 05/02/2025 08:52

It's 8 years on, he's 8 years older, his dementia has had 8 more years to develop. It would be foolish in the extreme to say "It was OKish last time, it'll be OKish this time, ignore him".

I’m hoping he’s making some big gestures in the first month or two, being the showman, then will settle down.

Oh, bless you in your innocence.
He is a megalomaniac who thinks he can do what he wants across the world.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 05/02/2025 08:47

How about the rights of Palestinians to live safely in their own country?

Guinessandafire · 05/02/2025 08:56

It's the 'At least he's doing what he said he'd do' posts on here that I find most unhinged...like it's OK to be deranged, bigoted , terrifying danger to the planet as that's what he said he was going to be!.

20% of mumsnetters being racist, fascist bigots does probably sound about right to me as well.

He wants the richest country in the world to become even richer. More powerful. He’s not going to settle down. He wants money and power at OUR expense.
I hope to god that we don’t end up in a war fighting the USA but it genuinely can’t be 100% rules out at this point. I suppose it depends on what other countries he fancies having control of, Greenland for its position, Ukraine for its minerals, Palestine for its coastline…

I think you are right, he is unhinged but what excuse is there for the sane people around him to nod along to every mad idea he comes up with?
I think that's more frightening than Trump's crazy ideas.

He's not surrounded by "sane people" though, is he?

There is a group of people - Musk, Witkoff, Kushner, Rubio and others - who are the real nasties behind what is happening in the White House. Trump is just the front man who believes what they tell him and will say whatever stupid ideas that they put in front of him. See also R.F.Kennedy Jr - another bumbling idiot who can barely string together a coherent sentence but who is in line to be in charge of healthcare.

Newbutoldfather · 05/02/2025 09:00

The question is whether he is mad or bad and I would say more the latter.

Everything he is doing is part of the ‘America First’ agenda. And, after his landslide victory following an assassination attempt, he honestly thinks that God has chosen him to lead America.

Not everything that he is doing is bad. There has been a lazy sliding away from hard work and meritocracy and, in part, Trump is a reaction to that. But his bulldozering of democratic mechanisms, fraudulent use of emergency powers for tariffs (Canada is responsible for 0.1% of drugs and a minimal amount of illegal immigration) and his international adventurism are very scary.

Unfortunately liberal democratic hasn’t delivered what it promised so we are going back to rule by strong men and spheres of influence. Personally, I doubt it will work out any better.

I'm American and I'm genuinely terrified.

The things he's doing aren't going to make America richer, although they may benefit a few. They are, overall, going to make it poorer, sicker, less safe and less educated, and that's just a beginning.

Trump is not like other politicians, who have a professional, middle class approach. He talks like a guy in a bar but he’s not ‘mad’. You have to remember that 90% of what he says will not come to pass. If you concentrate on what he actually does and not what he says, you will be less depressed.

Quite. The wailing and gnashing is what has put him where he is, he winds people up so they end up looking madder than him

Phthia · 05/02/2025 09:02

It concerns me that this really could end up in civil war in the US. At some point a sizeable portion of the populace is going to decide it won't stand for his policies any more, and/or the military will revolt against invading other countries for no reason other than to satisfy Trump's megalomania. Especially if or when he goes for a third term.
