Are people still trying to argue and make ethnic cleansing sound like a totally normal option? This is crazy, do you express these views to people in real life or just anonymously on mumsnet?

mids2019 · 11/02/2025 16:26

Isn't it the president of the US expressing these views which are currently being discussed with the King of Jordan. I don't think this is random speculation but commentary on the real world.

I think people are just surprised that citizens support trumps idea of committing ethnic cleansing. Wonder if it was Israeli citizens or the country where which of us live whether we’d agree with the idea. At the end of the day there are refugees that have been displaced and made a happy life somewhere else so why not Israelis or us!

Lalaloveya · 11/02/2025 15:42

The way you ask that makes it sound as though anything other than these fascist ethnic cleansing plans is unreasonable.

I think the people of Gaza should be allowed move back to their homes, which Israel should pay to rebuild (obviously that will never happen but it should) and they should be supported to hold elections and try to piece their destroyed society back together. Maybe there's a role for the PA in this.

Stop assuming things.

I didn't think there were any homes to go back to. But anyway, up to them. I don't think Israel should pay for rebuilding since hamas terrorist attack started this particular conflict off. Many hamas funds sat in Qarat bank accounts could be utilised first, then Israel contribute.

The world's billions in aid should be distributed to people and not stolen by hamas for selling for their gain (sneaky bastards, doing their own people out of freely provided food etc).

Hamas gone (will they go, or hang on though) and if any exist moderate Palestinian leaders or if they cannot find any a coalition from other countries.

In the end the one thing many hopefully agree on is no hamas, but have to get rid of the nasty shits is going to be difficult. They won't go voluntarily, do the people want them gone, by the cheering and clapping when they strut their stuff who knows.

Talk us through why Israel should pay when Hamas started this war, torturing & murdering over 1000 people and taking hostages who they have starved and tortured, and getting a disproportionate number of prisoners in return. They knew exactly what would happen in terms of Israeli retaliation. Because no country would fail to retaliate. And Hamas is a very wealthy organisation which has not only completely failed to protect its population but exploited them for 20 years.

Because they razed it to the ground, targeting civilians, whilst trapping them there and cutting off food, water, aid and most outside communication and help.

Liv999 · 11/02/2025 17:09

Hamas, Israel and the USA should pay equally, Hamas for starting this, Israel for choosing to keep it going for the next 15 months and USA for providing Israel with the means to blow Gaza into oblivion, it isn't anyone else's responsibility

Iran, Qatar? Who do you think funds Hamas & protects their funds?

EasterIssland · 11/02/2025 17:15

The response must be exactly as President Trump has suggested: completely halt humanitarian aid, cut off electricity, water, and communications, and use brutal and disproportionate force until the abductees return. At the same time, clear Gaza of all “uninvolved.” The immigration plan must begin immediately. It is time to open the gates of hell on Hamas – and this time, without any restrictions on our heroic fighters.

Such hyperbole and nonsense. You don't seem to umderstand what happens in wars The damage is extensive, not least because Hamas chose to build a tunnel network under buildings. I've seen masses of communications coming out of gaza. Where have you been?

mids2019 · 11/02/2025 17:24

If Israel isn't paying for the reconstruction who will be? Arab states.....they don't have enough money in a lot of cases and it will take pursuasion to get the oil rich states to cough up. If Hamas remain in charge funders may be inadvertently funding terrorism.is

it's going to be interesting to see the result of the meeting at the white house. If Jordan was completely aghast at the idea of hosting more Palestinians the King wouldn't be in Washington.

Liv999 · 11/02/2025 17:25

@SharonEllis And who do you think enabled and approved Qatar funding Hamas?Yep, Israel.

Sounds like a lovely voluntary resettlement program is planned.

Jordan is not going to agree to ethnically cleanse Palestinians. As a small country they have done their fair share in taking in refugees from surrounding countries.

Adropinthepond · 11/02/2025 17:43

Israel generally have a tolerable relationship with Jordan and Egypt. It wouldn't be a wise move to break this by forcing them to take part in their ethnic cleansing plans.

stanleypops66 · 11/02/2025 17:53

Yes. It would have been great for the nationalist communities in the north if there were laws against state sanctioned violence and murder too, or even consequences after the fact, but there's been very little of that.

Exactly if people played fair, especially those who are government sanctioned and are meant to live by the rule of law, maybe others would follow. The British army were ruthless (as were other illegal armies). Just last week in NI there was a big court case where the British army were found to have acted illegally after a killing over 30 years ago. That's just one of many many more. The government's of any country try need to act legitimately and to a higher standard.

There are other topics to discuss such as USAID and continuing local security cooperation.
As far as I understand the "resettling" is really out of question. They had pritests about it and Parliament is working on preventing it.

Adropinthepond · 11/02/2025 18:22

Jordan has just announced they will take in two thousand sick Palestinian children for treatment and Trump seems happy with that.
It's incredibly generous for Jordan to offer this to children who desperately need urgent medical aid. It doesn't mention if those children and their families will be allowed to return to Gaza If they wish to do so.

It is. Their health system is already beyond breaking point. I hope they get financial support. I understand that Trump is threatening to withdraw aid if they don't comply with his demands, which will make their position untenable with over 800,000 Syrian refugees and many others from previous conflicts.

I find it quite hypocritical of Trump that he expects other countries to take in migrants considering his own drastic policies in the US.

Yep! A huge, raving liar and a fascist.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 11/02/2025 19:05

He and Netanyahu makes pair, I'd say. Both right wing; both total arseholes. Trump has no notion of rule of law, he can't be consistent, and he's unable to use diplomacy. On top of which, often his most outrageous statements are a poorly conceived negotiating tactic.
