Relevant by being historically antisemitic. Is antisemitism rife in Ireland? Such a small Jewish community. Quite awful.

Resorting to posting things twice now because you can't find anything else?

You are deluding yourself, @Alwayslookonthe.

Being pro Palestine does not mean anti Israel.

Israeli ambassador blames Ireland's uniquely 'extreme' position for embassy closure https://jrnl.ie/6572910

So many serious accusations with so little evidence. Sigh.
There is definitely a situation where one nation hates another, Israeli anti Irish rhetoric is getting out of hand.

Israeli ambassador blames Ireland's uniquely 'extreme' position for embassy closure

The Chairperson of the Jewish Council of Ireland said the embassy closure was a “practical disadvantage” for Irish-Israeli relations.

MothToAnInferno · 16/12/2024 16:01

I don't care if you want to call it broadening or changing but they aren't doing anything exclusively for the only Jewish state though @Alwayslookonthe as you have repeatedly wrongly claimed and then failed to acknowledge your mistake. I understand that you may not have realised that you were wrong but once corrected you should acknowledge that your accusations were ill informed.

Nope not wrong. Tacking on Myanmar which has been ongoing for 8 years is not going to hide the rules are changing for the Jewish state. Using fig leaves are not going to work dear Moth.

Yeah I think it is clear that you can't see the wood for the trees such is your obsession with Israel. Good luck

Why are you asking me that? I support the existence of the state of Israel. I also support the existence of a state of Palestine. I don't accept an either or scenario. I don't support illegal settlements

So you can’t answer apart from attacking the poster. Typical.

Very hard on Jewish people in Ireland, unfair on them, especially as they’re a very small community. Seems like the Israeli government doesn’t care?

As an Irish person (raised Catholic, lapsed) that I do feel for the Jewish people in Ireland.

However, just because you might be Jewish, doesn't always equate that you are Israeli. I have no issue whatsoever with people who practice their Jewish faith.

I do have a massive issue with the way that Israel is going to war with whomever they feel like pissing off next and carrying out a genocide while the world watches on. If, by being a little bit vocal about that and that happens to get under the skin of the Israeli Government and their representatives, then good.

It took a few Irish workers in Dunnes Stores to stop handling goods from South Africa to shine a spotlight on apartheid (source) so I think we can and do have power on an international stage and what we think matters. We can move mountains if we put our minds to it and we can change the world, a bit at a time.

Answer what, there was no question just you denying the truth. I gave you benefit of the doubt, thought you were just ill informed rather than knowingly spreading false information. I was wrong so I'm out. I'm not wasting my time on that sort of nonsense.

Unbelievably, (or perhaps not so) Ireland’s president also sent condolences to Germany’s representative in Dublin on Hitlers death!

www.theguardian.com/world/2005/dec/31/secondworldwar.ireland

There is a huge reason behind this event. He did not sign a book of condolences he rang the chancellor. This was due to his ongoing difficulties with the American ambassador to Ireland who was demanding Ireland enter the war and become less neutral DeValera was determined to be completely neutral because of this and not waiver at all. He offered condolences to Roosevelt and therefore felt to be seen as completely neutral he should do the same to Hitler. He wanted to separate the German people from Hitler and was heavily criticised at the time for it.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89amon_de_Valera_Fores
He has a forest named after him in Israel as he was lauded for the recognition of Judaism in the Irish Constitution in 1937 when anti semitism was rife in Europe.

"The then-Israeli prime minister, Levi Eshkol, said the forest was a "fitting expression of the traditional friendship between the Irish and Jewish peoples, two nations that have so much in common of history and fulfilment."

Yes! Well done Simon Harris, proud to be Irish

Wow 😮 good to see they don't equate the Irish people with the decisions of their government 🙄

Yes the whole aim seems to be to discredit Ireland and create tensions with their relationship with America. Labelling our Taoiseach antisemitic is such a serious accusation to make about the head of another nation state.

Kindatired · 16/12/2024 18:05

The Simon Montefiore story has its basis in fact. A 14 yo boy was convicted of throwing stones in 1904 in Limerick. The order eventually shipped the priest who was causing the trouble to the Phillipines where he had a nervous breakdown and was sent on to New Zealand. The other family affected by the pogram, the Goldbergs, moved back to Cork and their son became the first Jewish mayor of Cork and the first Jewish President of the Law Society.

Would any other democratic nation conduct its foreign affairs in this way? By taking out ads to stir up hate against another nation?

It's a bizarre situation. An organisation that say they Awaken the silent majority! Sponsor messages highlighting Israel’s positive values, culture, innovation, and society pay for ads spreading misinformation to stir up hatred towards another country. Was there nothing positive they could find to say about Israel so they decide to jump in with lies about Ireland instead?

For a democratic nation to be even accused of genocide like this should be the issue not Irelands opinion of it. Changing the criteria should not even be an issue if they were not accused of killing innocent people and trying to wipe out a nation of people.

I would question mumsnet on allowing such ads on their website. They seem wholly inappropriate and perhaps they are unaware of them.
