I would also hesitate to suggest that the REAL, dangerous, racists may not answer the questions truthfully anyway. Well today they would, but 10 years ago they might have known better.

This is why I hold no faith in surveys. People either answer how they think you want them to answer... or they just answer any old shite! They're not real!

Anyone who says any of these things, even if its "just" to fuck with a pollster, is a real dangerous racist.

I don't get involved on this board, but I can understand Irish posters being frustrated. I've seen more than one post suggesting that Ireland's (quite brave really given their size and the reluctance of others to do the same) denouncement of Israel is because of antisemitism. It isn't, it's because of what's happening in Gaza. Simple as that.

Yes - no problem with criticism of Israel.
Israel deserves criticism for the terrible things that are happening

In fairness - saying most Irish people don't care about antisemitism is as inflammatory as saying most Jewish people don't care about anti Irish slurs, so I don't think you have any moral high ground here.

I definitely didn’t say most Irish people- I said most Irish posters on this thread …
I don’t think they are in any way a representative sample of Irish people…

I appreciate that some people might not see a difference in “most Irish people “ and “most Irish posters on this thread” but I assure you they are two very different statements.

HelenHen · 20/11/2024 20:16

No, but they're probably also racist misogynistic cunts too! That's the point I've been trying to make! There could be 1 in 5 people worldwide who hate Ireland. Is there any point randomly calling 54,000 to find out? Would it prove anything?

Trust me, I think there are at least 1 in 5 worldwide who hate the French, lol.
Most of them can be found in the USA. The phrase "cheese eating surrender monkeys" springs to mind.
I have always felt that ,us French, have an affinity with Ireland. I am yet to visit this beautiful country. Vive L' Irlande!

No, that's not really what racism is. Are they an asshole? Possibly. But who said we have to comply with random people ringing our home phones or answer truthfully?

Hmm … you can see the difference in the two statements though ?

Im asking because I think some people misread it as “most Irish” whereas I said “most Irish posters on this thread ” which is quite a different thing …

Could you name the Irish posters that are antisemites please? It is a very serious accusation

Auvergne63 · 20/11/2024 20:55

ScrollingLeaves · 20/11/2024 20:13

No it is not.
But the story is more subtle as it wasn’t The Jews, who condemned Jesus after Herod and Pontius Pilate found him innocent. It was the Jewish Chief Priests and their followers who were jealous of Jesus and thought he was ‘perverting’ the people, and being called a king. The people who followed Jesus were Jews (as well as others).

So the children’s illustration was telling the truth but by not making the whole story clear can be misinterpreted. They could have also imo have given the Chief Priests historic costumes to help show their distance from modern times not shown modern Jewish religious clothes.

The Trial of Jesus in all Four Gospels

The Crucifixion story is possibly not very suitable for little children in my view!

Absolutely. I taught RE and it is also my understanding that the High Priests were jealous of Jesus and of his influence on ordinary citizens.
If anyone is interested in reading the text from the Bible of Jesus’ trial before Pilate. It is in Matthew 27:1-2, 11-26.
Teaching about the crucifixion to little was challenging at times.

Making a racist comment isn't racist? Since when?

Why is it so important to you that Irish posters constantly say "I care about antisemitism"? Of course we care, but why are we asked to say that every 5 minutes on this board? Why is no other nationality demanded to say "I care about antisemitism"? We care. A lot! More than most perhaps... and that's why we're so vocal.

Just don't call any randomers though asking them if they agree with French stereotypes... and you'll be fine 😂

I can repeat that it seemed to me that most of the Irish posters on here didn’t seem concerned about claims of anti semitism … I’m not at all sure why you want names … Surely that’s irrelevant?
( Although one or two posters were more concerned)

Making a racist comment isn't racist? Since when?

The survey wouldn't have asked them to make a comment though. This random person phoning out of the blue would have said 'racist comment' do you strongly disagree, disagree, somewhat agree, strongly agree, don't know?

The person wouldn't have had to say the words. Many don't even understand the question or just answer positively to each to get rid of the caller.

Do you really not see how that might work?

I guess it would have been good if someone would have said they cared about claims of antisemitism since that is what this thread is concerned.
But in fairness @BarbaraHoward and @Kindatired did..

I didn't get that at all. They were concerned that the school curriculum was being accused of antisemitism and were challenging that.
Antisemitism is very serious and I don't think a poster who doesn't respond to posts the way you may want them to is a good enough reason to accuse them of antisemitism which is why I think it makes more sense to challenge the poster directly as opposed to vague accusations. No I don't want names I want the people you are referring to tagged otherwise all Irish posters stand accused.
